Some of us were told not to do it because people might walk into a circle of attention, not notice the flying legs and hurt themselves.

so yes/no?

otakuapprentice

if its in the concourse area, then I can easily see how that would happen. Try to find out where you can try to do this by sending a PM to someone on staff.

Pretty much what Otaku just said

at the dance there were some half assed bboying going on and nearly hit my friend and I, sure despite the massive circle one of the guys disregarded where he was backing up into

and obviously its the dance its a crowded place where that shouldnt be held in

also the hallways and such arent a good place since its crowded too

No one wants a lawsuit on their hands if someone gets hurt

otakuapprentice

quick note of some places were you shouldn't try this:

Dance: NO.
Concourse: NO.
Hallways: NO.
Panel/Video Rooms: NO.

Eh, I already tried talking to the head guy during my stay at fanime. He didn't really have a legitimate reason and there's no official rule saying, "no breakdancing." I pointed over to the other people dancing around saying, "but they're dancing.. and are there rules saying there's no breakdancing?" he couldn't really say anything but "uh..it seems you can do it very well but uhm, its for your safety." so I had to stop after that.

The gaming room seems like the best bet imo.

I noticed lat year a huge amount of empty space in the corners of the gaming room.
Any chance of having a SMALL DJ and sound system their strictly for the b-boys?

Don't think its much of a prob unless people are getting placed in danger of injury.....but remember, nothing plugged into the walls.

Yay battery powered DJ equipt...

I'm curious...Why would bboying not be allowed at Dance?  I mean, that should be the most ideal spot for bboying, right?  It is a dance after all, right?

Tight space? If you were trying to do a flip or something you might end up knocking other people out.

I think with such a diverse crowd is does cause a bit of a problem. I agree if the room is as packed as last year it will make the Breaking a bit uncomfy for the dancers, And obviously there is a larger portion of people who don't know how to dance like such that get a little weirded out when they see people flipping around  :-\ but I don't think anyone should be a Nazi about it just be aware of your surroundings.

The last time I saw someone actually get knocked out from a breaker trying to do a power move was maybe 15 years ago, and it was clearly not his fault.  The last time I saw someone actually get hit was....10 years ago?

I can understand if there is tight space where it's not recommended for bboys to do such a thing, but if they got a good amount of space to do it, I don't see why they can't.  This year there was some bboying at Dance, and there were no incidents.

I find this whole idea of the Fanime dances not having bboys kind of absurd. Maybe it's the crowd I hang out with, but every year I always see multiple dance circles that open up & clear the floor -- just for the breakdancing, glowstringing, krumping etc, and never once have they been broken up by staff. *shrug*

glowsticks = bad.......when they drop and are stepped on....they break and the juice stains the carpet...so fanime gets fined and raises prices for everyone.

well my friend got smacked in the face by a bboy as he was not looking where he was going so I wouldnt say there were no incidents

Maybe in a controlled situation. I'll take it into consideration when we draft the rules for this coming year and discuss it with the appropriate people.

If we have the same layout as last year at e-gaming, + 1 corner taken for PC gaming, we should still have 1 corner open to them.  If the higher ups are okay with it, I'm all for it.
