So I randomly starting hearing about the "Cleavage-gate"  - sorta like Watergate except with Katy Perry's Cleavage and the little Muppet known as Elmo...

See the article below:

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2010/09/26/2010-09-26_saturday_night_live_katy_perry_spoofs_sesame_street_elmo_duet_on_snl_season_prem.html

So long story short - Katy Perry made a music video with Elmo that was suppose to Air on PBS only to be pulled for being Too racey and suggestive for younger intended audiences... such overly sexualized images would give kids the wrong ideas especially paired along with "California Girls/Hot & Cold" to add the stereotype that all girls from our awesome state are just barely dressed harlots.

So Katy Perry ends up on the Season premiere of SNL [saturday night live] sporting a Elmo shirt like non-other... where gratuitous cleavage is over flowing from Elmo's fore head.

So whats your 2 cents everyone? is it inappropriate to show too much skin/cleavage for programs intended for kids/youth?

Should I not even care about Katy Perry?

Did I screw up again and post something thats not even debatable? [even tho i swear i think this topic is debatable... i swear!]

Or should i post/debate how one article claims that staring at cleavage is actually good for people:

or maybe I should just ask Elmo and see what he says...  like this clip from Scrubs:

Seems like Elmo likes huggles from women... "What she your woman?!?!" :D

I LOL'd when I saw this. Seriously.

Considering that when a kid goes to the beach they see far worse than this (I'll just let your mind go wandering on THAT for a little while...), I am surprised that they boggled so much at Katy.

I wouldn't be surprised if a big chunk of complaining parents don't know what their kid is doing behind their back. Like Kyle's mom in the South Park movie, they're so busy fighting a single pair of boobies that they don't see their kid in the kitchen playing with the kitchen knives.

What cracks me up is that no one on Sesame-side said "Y'know, we may want to try a different outfit because we have some uptight parents that might cry foul". Or after the fact, that Katy wasn't given the opportunity to just reshoot in another outfit..paid or not would probably be up to deliberation depending on how "responsible" Sesame would have been to know if the parents watching would object to her outfit.

Katy's response...I guess it depends on how funny you think it is :) She definitely won't be dancin' with Elmo again, that is for sure..unless they have a serious sense of humor about the whole situation.

LOL America, is what it comes down to.

Children don't even understand the sexual connotation of this. The ones that do... obviously see much worse anyways.

Oh Christian nation, why're you so hilarious.

and just when you thought this would die or go away.

apparently Oscar the Grouch has a statement:

I thought Katy showed a lot more skin that I "approved," so I'm a bit uneasy about it .____.

But, I remember reading a comment somewhere on Youtube. A mom said her son watched the video, and all the son could comment on was how pretty Katy's eyes were.

^made my day.
^future "perfect boyfriend"
^maybe adults just think differently.

Obviously adults think differently. This is simple psychology. As your brain associates things to what it knows. If you do not know about sexuality, how will you look at something and focus on it as sexual? That's why it's okay to bring children into the opposite sexes bathroom.

Think about it. Do you freak out when you're in a public bathroom and a mother brings her 3 yr. old son in? Will you go and riot and complain about how horrible that mother is for bringing a 3 yr. old boy into THE WOMEN'S RESTROOM!!!!!!!!! GASP. WHAT A HORRIBLE MOTHER!

In Europe, nudity is seen as natural, and Europe isn't filled any more with rapists than the US or is. In Japan teenagers can buy things that are pretty much porn in comic form legally at any book shop. Japan isn't any more filled with rapists than the US.

People are complaining just to complain and act like they're better people.

I agree with the commenters here that the parents were over-reacting and that kids don't think the way they do (or we do). And the parents' reaction are the ones causing their kids to take a look at it again in YouTube!
