To be brutally honest, if you just stay inside the convention center, you probably won't notice them and won't bother you.

Kinda hard to do for those of us staying in hotels across the street. lol
Not attending for 2014. Sorry!

shall we counter them with some devil horns?

Actually I think the preferred method of retaliation is sending out the Jesus cosplayer like we do every year. :B

*sigh* If only, but like all the other forums on the Fanime Protestors, its pointless and just fuels their fire. I believe the best medicine for them to to completely ignore them.  ;D

EJAY420

few years ago I saw this one devil cosplayer ( it looked really good)....could of been Jin Kazuya from Tekken.....he was getting them all stirred up!!! Freaking protesters.......they themselves are a show.
Most Impressive.

that was my idea last year, EJ. also red face paint.

Is it possible to set up a roped-off "Designated Protest Area" away from the area in front of the fountains?
Brevity is the soul of Wit.
Confusion is the soul of Runewitt.

The WBC makes its money the old-fashioned way: by suing the crap outta people. They want to inflame people enough to incite attacks on themselves, so they can go to court and sue the attacker and receive $$$ compensation. (Phelps himself is a lawyer.)

Seriously. They're a bunch of fame-whores.

Best defense? IGNORE THEM. When you read articles about what they've done, you'll notice that the more people ignore them/block them from the protest site, the shorter their protests are. One radio station even offered the WBC air time to share their views on the world if they cancelled their protest. No dice. The WBC never responded to the station's invite, because that would mean skipping the planned protest and missing out on potential money-making opportunities.

If you must counter-protest, do so peacefully. WBC has no ammunition against peaceful, loving protesters.

Peace out, all y'all. :D

If it is about the money, I don't understand why they'd pick Gunderson High of all places. That school has no money... its a public school for crying out loud. -.-; Nor is it a rich kids school.

They'd probably sue the school district.  Just another way to get money.

Cosplay Circus

They tried to picket Hillsdale High School for doing the same play, a lot of the GSA clubs in the district skipped school and went to counter protest them but they never showed up. Jerks didn't think that many people would show up, they probably heard ahead of time that a lot of people were planning on showing up for it.

As for Fanime, I find the protests extremely entertaining to watch from afar. My only request is that Fanime file a noise complaint to authorities about their megaphones, Fanime expands to the fountain area where activities such as the group shots are done so they are disrupting the event. But as long as someone shoves a cork in that megaphone or their megaphones just happen to spontaneously combust, I'm fine with letting them stand there and making fools of themselves. Plus, without them I couldn't have obtained the most epic pictures ever.

I really think that "God", and other deities for that matter, would be ashamed of their actions (and all those violent fanatics of other religions too.) Using one's religion as a shield for bad behavior is shameful and unethical.

Hearing that made me think of the first episode of family guy when they were in church and the priest was telling that story and God was sitting with the people and he goes "Oh God I hated it when he tells this one" lol.

Glitch

I wonder if our protesting friends at fanime would run if you told them they are a sad clone of the westboro church and that they are just waiting to sue over someone throwing a punch.
Probably not, but that would be cool.

Well you know what they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery.

My reaction to any generic group of churchtards protesting is to yell "GO BACK TO TOPEKA KANSAS" regardless of where they're actually from, because it's funny to associate them with another cult of churchtards that even THEY probably do not like and think is "extreme." Even the KKK doesn't like or want to be compared to Westboro, so they're kinda like the Godwin's Law of churchtardism.

Also, I'm a little disappointed by the Westies, one would think that as much as they harp on about Muhammad allegedly being a pedophile, and all Catholic priests being guilty of raping choir boys, they would be all over picketing the Anime Con crowd due to the whole Yaoi, Loli and Shota anime/manga porn thing and crossdressing male J-Rockers, especially after the quakes and the nuclear disasters and stuff in Japan.

I even wrote a timely topical Christian parody of Caramelldansen and tried to supply them with the instrumental version to sing over, and a sign of my own creation (I tried emailing this to Margie)... but it seems that WBC doesn't do -anything- unless the voice in their head, aka Gawd, tells them to, so no hopes of my parody ever getting sung, nope... just more boring and lyrically jumbled parodies of Riannon ft. Eminem, or Kesha, or Lady GaGa or whatever else happens to be playing on radio.

"Doot-doo Dooo-ooooh, yah-ie, yah-ie, ya-ie-eh-yeh

You disobeyed God's laws, now yer gunna pay!
He sent the waves to wash Japan's filth away!
Pray to him, but he will not answer you.

(Answer you)

We tried to warn you all but you snubbed your nose
passed laws to hender us, the first amendment's a joke,
but you can't stop, our holy melody!

Ooh-wah-ooh-wah-oh

(CHORUS)

God can't hear you, hear you prayin' to him!
You had your chance, and now it's Armageddon!
It's no lie! You will see destruction.
Witness the glory of holy retribution!

Oooh-ooh-ooh-wah-wah
( no no no - hope)
Oooh-ooh-ooh-wah-wah, uh oh

Oooh-ooh-ooh-wah-wah
( no no no - hope)
Oooh-ooh-ooh-wah-wah, uh oh

Westboro Baptist Church is here to speak the truth
to all you Juh-pan worshipping wee-a-boos!
Don't waste your prayers,
on that pedo country filled with sin

Ooh-wah-ooh-wah-ow

Nuclear reactors melting down in scores
is punishment for scoffing at our holy words
you wouldn't hear, and you would not obey!

So now God - can't hear you, hear you prayin to him
You had your chance, and now it's Armageddon!
It's no lie! You will see destruction.
Witness the glory of holy retribution!"

*repeat chorus again after breakdown*

Lemme go on record that I'm not srs bizniss and I don't hate anyone, I just think it would be funny if the real deal instead of some watered down clones started picketing at Anime cons, I mean doing that would make them look even dumber than the time they targeted San Diego Comic Con for "making idols of Batman and Superman instead of worshipping Gawd", and maybe that's why they don't seem very keen on the idea. They know from the previous experience that they'd just get trawl'd and laughed at by a bunch of people, moreso than when they just do the other churches and funerals stuff (ie, their comfort zone). Also most of you, despite how loud you may get, aren't violent, and they -WANT- those bricks thru their van windows and spit / punches / bottles to the face, gives them lawsuit opportunities and helps fulfill their religious FURSECUTION fantasies.

HerpDerpMcSlurp

PS: Do the churchie nutters who picket Fanime every year have a website or email I could get in touch with them at? I have some lovely sign ideas I shooped that I'd love to share with them (for the lulz of course) *twiddles evil mustache* If the real deal won't accept my "help" then maybe their copycats would, I could help mold them into Weeaboo Westboro, lol... that should be their name from henceforth (either that or Phanime Phelps Phagz).

Sysadmin Edit: image removed, but use your imagination.

I don't actually hate furries, and I don't believe in God,
but could you imagine those guys holding signs like this? LAWL.

Sysadmin note: Well, that image was pretty much breaking the rules.  48 hour ban for you.

They are hypocrites in many way but since they're Calvinist, a lot of the hateful things they do relates to how Calvinist (a type of protestant) acted back in The 16th century.
They not only hate homosexuals, they also have a strong hate for Catholicism, Protestantism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Islam, Hinduism, and Judaism.

They also believes "that Barack Obama is the Antichrist, and that he forms an Unholy Trinity with Satan and Pope Benedict XVI, who they believe is the False Prophet."

(−_−;)

If anyone can answer this for me, I also been wondering why they choose to protest at Fanime. (; ̄O ̄)?

Because Fanime preaches Awesomeism

It's not the WBC that protests at Fanime, just a different bunch of religious nuts. They did, however, protest Comic-Con last year for "worshipping false idols." False idols, in this case, being Superman and Batman.

I understand that, but would they be doing this for the same reason of "worshipping false idols?"

And apparently, they're against awesomeness from what I learned.
