Unfortunately, no. The dress code does not allow any skirts higher than the top of the kneecap. The reason why we have this as a length minimum is due to the formality of the event. Shorter dresses/skirts are more casual/relate more to a cocktail party than to a ball. If the skirt of the dress reaches the top of the kneecap, however, then you should be fine.

I know this may sound dumb but.... are the dresses only allowed to be black and/or white?

LOL, I think I said that first time I knew of the B&W ball.
It could be other colors besides black and white it just to be formal ware and abide by the dress code.

My friend and I were going to cosplay as Natalia and Guy from Tales of the Abyss in their formal outfits, but we're worried about her skirt length. The cosplay is her formal princess dress, but part of her skirt is above her knee ( http://i47.tinypic.com/5x0v7l.png ). It is a formal cosplay, but the front of the skirt isn't below/at the knee, so would it be allowed at the ball?

They told me earlier in the thread that -all- parts of the skirt need to be at or below knee level.
EDIT: exact wording from dress code:
"dresses or skirts that go higher than the top of the knee cap (including slits and asymmetrical hems)"

If you don't want to lengthen the entire thing for accuracy's sake, you can design a longer skirt panel that you can wear underneath just for the event. I think that a longer skirt underneath the shorter part (in the same fabric with the same ruffle and everything) would produce an interesting tiered effect, keep it within the dress code, and be removable so that the accuracy of the dress isn't ruined. If you have enough time and enough fabric, see if you can simply make a longer skirt to wear underneath. :)

Don't worry, that's not a dumb question at all!
The term "Black & White" in the Black and White Ball signifies the formality of the event (ie. white/black tie). Feel free to wear more than just those two colors. :)

What Nina Star 9 said is correct:
Asymmetrical hems of skirts/dresses will not be allowed to be above the kneecap, as is stated in our dress code. I do recommend Nina Star 9's advice, though! If you have something like another skirt layered underneath it where it won't effect your cosplay permanently, that would be a good compromise.

I have a strapless dress I plan on wearing. It's formal wear, but I don't want to be denied entry if it breaks the rules.  :-[

I have a question about footwear, what about moccasins? Such like ones from Assassin's Creed 3 on Connor.

Actually, we are wondering if Connor's entire attire is acceptable. It seems to follow some of the guidelines, but some are also questionable-- mainly the entire bottom half. This is what he will be wearing: http://i.imgur.com/goplV.png

to my knowledge, strapless dresses are okay. we as staff are mainly worried about the bottom lengths and keeping to the formality of the event

hope that helps

@DoLL - Yeah, the bottom half of Connor's costume would not pass the dress code.  Might I suggest a pair of nice loafer style dress shoes and cream colored slacks?  The rest should be okay -coat/long sleeve shirt.

@Skw3rlch4n - strapless dress is okay as long as it passes the skirt length test as described in the dress code.

I'm considering wearing this: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/suzi-chin-for-maggy-boutique-ruched-faux-wrap-dress/3036369?origin=category-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=MIDNIGHT&resultback=370&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-browseresults-_-1_2_C

You can't tell in the picture, but the skirt wraps around. It would meet the length requirements otherwise, I think, but does the wrap-ness violate the rules? Thanks!

I don't see a problem with it. Just to make sure though, can you safety pin the wrap so that way it stays in place? That would help

Formal capes are permitted, but please be aware of its length should you choose to wear it on the dance floor. If it is a floor-length cape, those behind you may accidentally step on it so an extra awareness of your surroundings may be necessary.

I have tons of business formal clothes to wear, but feel like that's too ordinary.

Will most people be coming formal-cosplay attire?

Suggestions to "juice up" whatever I wear at work would be cool.  Too bad I can't really find HP dress robes, haha.

Another probably-dumb question, but is body paint allowed? I plan on going to the ball as formal!Terezi, and I need to know if I'm allowed to grey up for that or not (if not, that's fine, I'm just curious).

Not an official answer, but I probably wouldn't dance with someone who was painted grey, just because I wouldn't want to get paint on myself. You could be the most amazing and attractive fancystuck!Kanaya ever, but I still wouldn't dance with you, simply because I wouldn't want to get grey on my own formal outfit. (I'm going as fancystuck!Rose, so that's why the Kanaya example, haha~ Look for me there!)

Yeah, I would err on the side of humanstuck if I were you.

I'm not sure what the policy is on horns (since it is a formal event, after all...), but you can always wear hairclips, bows, flowers, etc., in the color of her horns to imitate the look while still keeping the formal feeling. (Depending on your outfit, you can maybe do a teal flower offset with a candy-corn-colored ribbon bow?)

Now I'm curious what your outfit is!
