I've done plenty of karaoke in the past, and while I like doing contests, I prefer them at smaller cons because there seems to be less pressure surrounding the event. Fanime's contest is a bit too large and too serious for me, so I'm always wary of entering. I mostly just like to do open mic so I can make an idiot of myself on stage singing stupid music, haha.

After going through every single song on my iPod, I found that Whole World Happy is probably best as my finals song, and while I love singing Bird of Paradise and can do it even though it is a bit lower than my normal range, I have yet to figure out how to sing most of it in the lower range and then bounce up to the higher notes. (I think I have decent enough range when I'm not trying to sing a register lower than normal...but I have to condition myself to hit those lower notes and can't really come out of that into high notes easily enough to sing that song!) I'll probably still do Bird of Paradise for open mic at some point. My prelims songs are between an easier one and a much harder/crazier one. I can do both, but it'll depend a lot on how my voice is that particular day, because I wouldn't want to blow out anyone's eardrums with those high notes in the JDA song! I'll make use of the warmup period, for sure.
(note -- that second video has a lot of camera flash effects in it, so if you are sensitive to flashing lights, please don't look at it! It's not terrible, it doesn't even bother me and I'm sensitive to flashing lights sometimes, but if you have epilepsy on a hairpin trigger...be careful)


Now to just hope that I can get in with at-con signups. :) I'll be constantly singing at open mic, so watch for the woman singing jazz/late '90s anime themes/cibo matto/GUITAR VADER/Cowboy Bebop music/shibuya-kei, and say hello. (I'll probably be in my Julia cosplay for the contest and Friday night, and likely my Mom Lalonde Saturday night. I have songs prepared to go with each cosplay...bet you'll never guess the ~super secret surprise Cowboy Bebop song~ I want to do as Julia, haha) I'll also be in the gong show -- look for the fancystuck!Rose Lalonde with the...modifications to her outfit. I don't want to say exactly what the act will be, but my sister and I have something really... fun planned for that one. ;)

I'm pre-reg, and I am going to pick it up on Thursday.  At least, I think I'm pre-reg.  I registered at the end of March, and I know I am part of a group that can pick up their badges early.  Friday I can arrive whenever everyone else does, as I live super close to the convention center.

Actually, the spots were filled before the 17th.  It's always best to sign up the day the sign-ups open, otherwise you risk not getting a spot in the contest.  It almost always fills up before the actual cut off date.

Hi all,

I performed way back in 2008. Not sure if anyone knows me anymore. I haven't been to Fanime for years (I got married, had 2 kids, life stuff, etc). Excited to be doing something fun like this again :)

I realized while practicing I have a really long stanza where my mouth pools with saliva and I don't know if I can swallow it in time before the next line. Oh well, we'll see what happens. :D

I also recorded all the qualifying round singers as well.  I plan to combine the videos and upload them sometime this weekend.

I just want to say everyone did an AMAZING job this weekend.  I was extremely impressed with all the talent this year.  Everyone should be proud of themselves.  Seriously.   AWESOME JOB ALL AROUND! ;)

I was in that 4+ hour Friday pre-reg line, so I totally missed the contest (and the old-school gathering), but I sang a lot of open mic, and was the luchador in the Gong Show.

I'm pretty sure that this is what I sang:
Friday: Adieu (Cowboy Bebop -- as Julia); like ameba (JiLL-Decoy association); Beauty-Flow (Jazztronik); pulled up on stage for Ask DNA
Saturday (cosplaying Mom Lalonde from Homestuck): Ask DNA (Cowboy Bebop); Scooter (Qypthone)
Sunday (cosplaying fancystuck!Rose from Homestuck): Ringside Interview (Rhythm Heaven -- for gong show); PAPPAYA (Ego-Wrappin'); jumped on stage during Bohemian Rhapsody

I had a great time! Did everyone else get to sing a lot of fun music? :)

Karaoke contest was an interesting experience!
I was a first time contestant, and not sure if I'll try again ahahaha (but I'll for sure watch!)

I was definitely nervous since I had just learned the lyrics XD

It was pleasant listening to all the pretty voices, even though I was sad I couldn't perform the finale song.
The audience was really really really nice to me, thank you everyone that clapped along.

He's a friend of mine from when we were in a masquerade group last year with several mutual friends.  Sygmus on the forums here, but I don't think he's particularly active.

Karaoke contest was a blast this year!  Didn't get a chance to do open mic at all (one time I dropped in, the wait was close to 3 hours, and I didn't want to hang around that long when I was already pretty tired and sore), but it was great to hear all you awesome folks sing.  I'm the crazy one with an attachment to seramyu villain songs.  XD  But hey, it actually got me into the finals this year.
