AUDITIONS: Haikyuu's Next Top Protagonist! (a fan panel)

Greetings, Fanime 2017 Haikyuu fandom!

The fine folks at Mint Chip Cosplay have submitted an application for a Haikyuu!! panel at Fanime 2017, and we are inviting YOUR auditions!


WHAT: An all-ages Haikyuu!! panel featuring supporting characters from Karasuno's opposing teams. This means Aoba Johsai, Nekoma, Fukurodani, Shiratorizawa, Date Tech, Johzenji, Wakunan, Tokonami, and so on...and we'll count Nohebi among them for good measure. These characters will be representing their teams in a friendly competition, judged by the audience, to see which team would be worthy of being the protagonist of the show if Karasuno weren't there. If you cosplay a character from one of these teams, or were even thinking about it, here's your chance or your excuse! We plan on having some partially-scripted content, some improv games (think Whose Line Is It, Anyway?), and some audience Q&A.


WHY: We're suckers for minor characters! We all love Karasuno, too, but every Haikyuu panel any of us has seen has, unsurprisingly, been centered around them. We want to do something a little different, and give other characters a chance to shine. Come on, you know you have a few favorites beyond the protagonist team, don't you?

But as for us – we're Mint Chip Cosplay. There's a bunch of us, but the captain squad of this panel is Kal, Tiffany, Kit, Rein, Raz, Abby, and Julian. We're based mainly in the San Francisco Bay Area, but have members across California. We've been cosplaying together since early 2014, and have previously presented panels as part of a larger group at Fanime and SacAnime. This will be our first Haikyuu panel, though, and we couldn't be more excited. We're looking forward to working with you!

So far, we are open to auditions for any non-Karasuno volleyball player EXCEPT FOR: Oikawa, Iwaizumi, Kuroo, Aone, and Kamasaki. Those five are taken by Mint Chip members, but literally anyone else is fair game. We are planning for roughly 12 to 15 panel participants, so being the only one to audition for a character doesn't automatically mean you're in; we'll be choosing the best auditions, and the characters that best complement each other. But you're also welcome to audition for more than one!
