Hey y'all! Just making sure that everyone has noticed that Reg has updated their FAQ to say they've moved back to the Hub (kind of under Stage Zero from what I remember) at the convention center this year!! :)
I hope the lines will be less chaotic and long this year!

Interesting! Moving back to the original location. I wonder how traffic flows will be set up now that there are no longer stairs under there going to the concourse level (since that was the exit back when reg was down there before)?

Hopefully this won't be Linecon again.

moondogg

So is this where the Reg was last year? Or is it where the hilton kinda is.

Nina Star 9

Reg last year was in the Marriott. This is in the convention center.

You know the "hub" area when you walk into the front doors of the convention center and walk straight back towards the wall rather than going up the stairs or down the hallways underneath the concourse level (that run the length of the convention center)? Where there's historically (since the renovation at least) been a stage and chairs set up? It's going to be there.

The area marked "The Hub" on this map (page 2 of the pdf, Parkway level):

This is where registration was originally (since Fanime moved to San Jose that is), and was last there in 2012. 2013 saw the disastrous move to the Fairmont, 2014 - 2015 was the refreshing move to the area under where the AA is located (ground floor of the new wing once that opened), and 2016 saw the disastrous move to the Marriott. Now it's back where it used to be. There were some traffic issues and line issues the last couple of years it was there, so I hope those things get solved.

Admiral Donuts

Reg won't have any problems if they get badges out as fast as they did in 2015.

tesla

I hope they'll improve the line this year! Or least have better line organization....
I think they learned their lesson last year with Revenge of LineCon!

LineCon is the funniest part of a Con IMO.

But yeah they cant have another situation like last year with a line wrapping up and down around a hotel ballroom.

They probably move i to Marriott, only because they wasted most of the space of the Con Centers reg area since both of the lines before last year did not exist. But obviously there was an issue last year that caused a massive line to form. If that was just because of the location of reg or hiccups on processing isn't an issue really, the main issue is that if there is another time when we get a lineCon, the old area is just far better suited for processing the line, wasted space be damned.

I guess we shall see how the line is handled and the speed badges are given out this time. I would come prepared just in case. Maybe we'll get an announcement as it gets closer on expected speed of badge-pickup. A fan-run con is just full of surprises!!

echoshadow

Yep, well it's not their first rodeo.
Anything can happen. As with Fanime tradition everything will be announced days before the start to the con.
Eh here's hoping for the best.

Yeah, that line last year was crazy long. I don't get why it took so long, as once I was in the room where they were issuing the badges, things seemed to be moving quickly. Once it was my turn, it was about 15 seconds and I had my badge in hand and was headed back to the con. The further back in line you were, the slower it seemed to move. Very strange.

I'm sure there's a few hundred people with the same idea, but even so, I'm going to get there early on the first day to get my badge. I even booked my hotel room the day before, just for that purpose. That was no fun waiting for check in time, only to finally get to the center, and see that line wrapped around the block, lol. Also, thanks for the heads-up!

tesla

I just hope they announce the location change to their social media soon! Rumor has it the problem with last year was the different badge style? I can't really remember anymore. people learn from their mistakes, so i hope that includes Fanime. I think rovers had some difficulty organizing the line when it got sooo long.
I have faith for this year to at least be an improvement from last year!! :)

OtakuAngel87

I got there early so I didn't run into issues when I picked up my badge but from what I heard from others (correct me if I'm wrong) was that isn't wasn't a different design but that the system just kept crashing and they had trouble printing on badges, info would be missing. I'm kind of glad that they are moving registration back to the hub, more room and less stuffy.

Mikuzukin
Hatsune Miku (original)
Sailor Moon

-_-chuckles-_-

this year is my 2nd time going, last time i went was 3 years ago i think. where we got our badge was front door then to the right? it think and remember being to see outside through the windows and ppl had gatherings in front of those.  this year flying solo as of now, so hopefully i wont get fully lost :D

tesla

This year reg will be directly inside the convention center. Just walk in the front door and there should be signs directing you where to go! I don't think you will get too turned around unless you get lost finding the end of the line, which I hope won't happen! :)

If you have Children do you have to stand in line with the little ones or can you go directly to the kids booth to get badges?
Last year my little one waited with me for 4+hrs and she needed to be changed and fed, a lot can be done to prepare to wait in line, but children can only wait in one spot for so long.

Admiral Donuts

I think you still need to wait.

You could go to Clockwork Alchemy for badge pick-up, they historically have much shorter wait times. I'd wait to see if Linecon is back again this year before getting in line at Fanimecon.

tesla

I'd recommend emailing [email protected] to confirm what their policy is on this.

This...ever since the monumental screw up during Fanime 2013 (6hrs line wait).  I just go there instead of the main con reg...typically no lines on Day 1

hikanteki

In 2014 and 2015 there were no lines at Fanime.

In 2016 I heard reports of a 3 hour line, and was coming back from the airport anyway so I just stopped by Clockwork to pick up my badge.
However, they asked me if I was going for Clockwork or Fanime. Like an fool, I told them Fanime...so they gave me a Clockwork-branded badge but said I'd have to go to Fanime to pick up the program and schedule. Pure idiocy, since the point of going to Clockwork was so I wouldn't have to wait in the Fanime line to get my stuff...not to get a Clockwork badge and have to wait in the Fanime line anyway.

So due to the preposterousness of it all, I ended up taking a program and schedule anyway and they didn't stop me...but be prepared if you pick it up at CA.

Thats not true ...I've gotten everything from the clockwork reg table (2013-2014-2015-2016)...badge, schedule and program....could care less if my badge did say Fanime (besides the clockwork art is better IMO)
