Seito Chibi Con (new con in the San Jose area) announces guest!
« on: February 26, 2008, 11:24:45 AM »

Here's a press release from Seito Chibi Con, a new one-day event in the San Jose area (on March 22):

Seito ChibiCon announces The Slants as first guest

Seito ChibiCon is proud to present The Slants as the first honored guest for the convention.. The Slants are an Asian synthpop/rock band hailing from Portland, OR who will be making a stop at the new convention during their West Coast tour.

2008 will be Seito ChibiCon's second year, focusing on anime culture and events such as a masquerade, Cosplay Chess, Battle Royale Capture the Flag, and numerous panels and activities. 30 high schools in the area have been invited to participate, with seven being directly involved with the one day event. The Slants will be performing a live concert as well as participating in some of the conventions events.

"We can't wait to play at ChibiCon," says bassist and founder Simon Young, "we only had 21+ events scheduled in the Bay Area so this will be a great chance for all of our under age fans to come and see us, especially the ones we met at Sac-Anime!"

The Slants will be on a ten day tour, performing throughout the West Coast, wiith the final performance scheduled at Sakuracon (Seattle, WA). Geoffery Ganger productions will also be traveling with the band, filming a documentary about the tour and the band's astounding rise in popularity. Those attending Seito Chibicon, as well as Sakuracon and the other west coast show dates, will have the opportunity to be interviewed and included as part of the dvd to be released later this summer.

Ooh, I'd heard of that convention and was planning to go... maybe. Seito Chibi Con, from when I checked last, is only available to high school students and first year college students (middle schoolers are allowed if they have a high-schooler guardian with them). It sounds pretty fun...

It seems kinda messed up to limit a convention to a certain age group.
Its highly likely that there will be legal issues in the future. I cannot see how a con would not get sued by someone because they were denied access when its a paid event.
Especially when they make exceptions for some people but not all.
Even high school clubs allow older people if they have passes and permission.
Most other school events (that sell tickets) allow people of many ages.

Even if I wanted to go, I wouldn't be able to because I'm not within the age limit.

That aside, its neat that they are doing such a thing.

Well, it's being set up and run by high schoolers, and it's basically for high schoolers in that area, though any HS are welcome. :3

I'd never find enough motivation in my high school's anime club to run a con. =.=;;

I see this as potentially awesome and would love to see where this goes in a few years.

It seems to say that they should be emailed for special circumstances. So I'm assuming a high schooler can bring a parent or guardian. A good loophole, but I don't a con aimed at high schoolers would be my thing.  :)
