As I post every year, please be patient while the organizers organize and we wait to see who got in and who is going to have a second audition, etc., etc.

They are in school and very busy, and while the panel is (I'm sure) A priority, it is not their ONLY priority. :)

Just a reminder that the organizational meeting for this gathering is TONIGHT. If you need my Skype info and a link to tonight's agenda, be sure to check in with me before 6pm PST today!

I look forward to seeing those of you that can make it!

WOW GUYS WE ARE GETTING CLOSE TO ONE MONTH OUT! How did this happen???

For those of you who have expressed interest in volunteering/helping out at the gathering, I am looking for a few individuals over the age of 18! There will be a mandatory organizational meeting on Monday, April 28th at 7pm. If you cannot make it to downtown San Jose for any reason, you are invited to Skype in, or pm me here to discuss a rescheduling. However, Mondays are my only day off, so I cannot be as flexible as I would like...

The organizational meeting will take place near the light rail and public transit, at the Starbucks on 3rd and Santa Clara. If you have any questions, please let me know. I look forward to meeting you all!

crossposted to tumblr, facebook, etc.

From past years, I expected that date and time to be a sort of placeholder. I am not sure that is the officially scheduled date and time. BSaphire, is this the case, or can we expect the schedule to shift a little as we get closer to the event?

I think I responded to you via pm, but there will be no shipping poses or the like. I've requested that "video game characters" be swapped out for "ancestors" and "dancestors" due to the lack of common knowledge of the video game! Just a note, the "Homestuck video game" was a Kickstarter project and the current reason for the Gigapause; I am referencing this and not Namco High when I say "video game characters." I will have to check out TZ's sweet new hoodie, though...

Hey fellow Stuckies. This Gathering is my priority for Fanime. I will be Sollux, my boyfriend will be Karkat. If you need to fill those Assistant and Photography "Yellers" I am happy to help since I am more interested in taking pics then being in them.
Also I noticed the photo line up lacks Ancestors and I request they be added. Thanks and let me know what I can do to make this happen.

Ancestors, I assumed, go under Trolls by Blood Color. Or do we need a whole separate grouping? If so, we'd need to add Dancestors as well. I've also requested to remove the Video Game Characters category, since (afaik, I'm not a supporter of the game) we don't know what the characters even look like yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I know there was one character design released to supporters but I don't think we need to add the game in, probably until next year.

Just to clarify, the "no alcohol" rule for Dinnerstuck has nothing to do with people who are over 21 and may want to drink. I really don't care. (Well, unless someone got so drunk that it was a problem for the event and location.) I'll have a drink myself occasionally, and I'm sure that other people can handle themselves when they've had a drink. The issue is the liability of having a mixture of underaged and of age attendees in a setting where alcohol is being served, since it is difficult or impossible to monitor. I don't want there to be a situation where alcohol is accidentally or purposefully served to someone underaged, so it's safer to just ban alcohol altogether. It prevents problems from ever arising, rather than trying to deal with a problem when it happens. I feel like I'm being accused of judging people who choose to drink (in whatever amount), and I'm really not. It's simply that this is supposed to be all-ages, and that I don't want to have to deal with any potential underaged drinking.

As I've said, I've considered hosting Barstuck events myself, but have found it to be too much trouble for what I'd personally get out of it, so I'm glad that someone else has taken that initiative. I'm still interested in the info, even if my schedule might end up being too busy to attend, and even if I won't end up drinking anything myself. ;]

Oh no, *I* should clarify that this was not directed at you! I'm 30 and tired of 18-yr-olds in the fandom implying that I am a bad person because I actually need to take the edge off before interacting with people. You can see it in the rules of most meetups, a weird kind of "alcohol and drugs are bad in every situation ever" vibe. Conversely, I *could* be super sensitive to it due to my anxiety and the specific coping mechanisms I've evolved.

My specific feeling on your event is that the venue would be responsible, not the organizer, but I wouldn't hold a mixed meetup for drinking purposes either! The only other thing is a sad shrug that it is yet another event I will not be able to attend due to my stupid brain. I truly hope it is a success, and the next time we do a 21stuck gathering, I will pm you details!

Yeah, we kind of started the 21stuck thing BECAUSE all events tend to be "we don't want you DRINKING TYPES around NORMAL PEOPLE/underage folks," sadly. I do believe I am capable of having a drink to smooth over my social anxiety AND talking responsibly to folks who are not of age, and I have faith in most of my friends to do the same.

Acey, I'll send you a link on FB, I have mentioned it in the group before. It's been pretty dead in there lately though!

It's funny to be on the other end of this argument for once! That is usually my line, but I have done a LOT of research on this, because PAX gets hella pricey.

I do agree with checking the ingredients of anything you put on your body. That is crazy important. And I have a slight latex allergy, so while I don't have sensitive skin and have had no problems with this method, I do recognize that folks with more sensitive skin or allergies may want to stick with armsocks.

I have been a professional makeup artist, and while the fabric paint isn't something I would eat or smear on mucous membranes, it is definitely ok for some folks to use it as a replacement for PAX (pros-aide and acrylic paint). YMMV, so do a test patch on an area of skin for a day or two to make sure your skin won't react, and keep in mind that it can be harder for your pores to breathe (I have read that this is psychological, but I have seen some people get a little faint by the end of the day with a lot of paint on. I am lucky enough to be able to wear it for a full three con-days without feeling stifled).
I'm actually MORE comfortable with fabric paint than I am with PAX. It is slightly less sticky. Still needs A LOT of powdering down or it will stick to itself. And I did shave my arms to be certain it would be easy to remove after-con.

The biggest downside for me is that it needs several reapplications on the hands. Although it doesn't smear on things, it does peel from your knuckles, fingertips, and palms (for me, less frequently than my girlfriend, but again, I got a lucky skin-type).

As for the suitability of "non-toxic" things on skin, as long as you do a patch test and keep non-cosmetics away from your face and mucous membranes, do a lot of research, and THINK before you do anything...you will be as fine as any other person who buys stage makeup marked "for professional use only."

You know, I swear by using fabric paint as body paint (it's way cheaper than PAX) and it works really well with my skin. The arm socks I've made have all irritated the webbing between my fingers horribly since the only way I can figure how to keep the stitches from causing runs in the stocking material is nail polish, fraycheck, glue...all crusty and sharp by the time I finish. I've never rubbed off on anyone (TWSS) luckily.

'Nother yeller here if you need one :D
May also have a spare supply of caution tape if necessary. Dunno why it would be, but for the sake of pooled resources- just letting you know :p

I'm really looking to avoid yelling at all costs. But the caution tape might come in handy for Aimless Renegade cosplayers ;)

My friend and I would be willing to help out with this meet! Though we are planning to go to the Black and White ball, and I can't remember what time it is at. And we would need time to be able to go and change before. But I'm sure we can be Roll Call assistants. c:

If you are interested in something specific please message me :)

Hello!
I will be in charge of a Dinnerstuck event this year. I'm still figuring out all of the specific details, but it should be Saturday, May 24th at 6:30PM (time may change by an hour either way, but the date and general time will be the same).

The idea behind the event is fairly straightforward -- a bunch of Homestucks get together and we all go to dinner together. It's really exactly what it sounds like. ;]

However, due to the nature of this event, there will be a strict size limitation, meaning that people will have to RSVP in order to attend. I will not yet be taking RSVPs, but will post when those open, and post the list on Tumblr (again, once I have all the details so I can make a Tumblr post about the event).

This is basically just a notification of the date/time of the event as a placeholder.
I hope to see you all at the con!! :]
Is this for grownups or everyone?? If it's grownups, you should join our 21stuck group for sure!! :D

Homestuck! / BACK IN MY DAY

This is mostly a joke (aka GET OFF MY LAWN), but it is so cool to me that we have our own subforum. My first fandom was Sailormoon, and I was never a forum person, so I've never experienced this kind of conversation (I am also a little old, y'all).

Do any of you have any relatable fandom experiences that might help out the young Homestucks? I see a lot of dismissive stuff and folks saying it will drop off after the series ends, but my anecdata is merely that I have never stopped cosplaying Sailormoon characters, and it's been off the air for ages. Plus, I think Homestuck has enough cosplay fodder for at least ten more years. Maybe more.

My positive fandom experience of these past few years:
I read Homestuck and decided off the cuff to throw together some cosplay. Just by doing that, I met friends that I would never have connected with, began doing panels, and met someone incredibly special. This could be said for any anime, game, or interest. Think about that! It is really profound to me that humans flock together like this, over entertainment. I mean, that's why we HAVE conventions like Fanime.

Homestuck, to me, is just like any other convention fandom (I have seen many), and with time, I think the non-Homestuck perspective of it will change. I remember people being annoyed that cosplayers were coming in video game costumes (IKR?), tv show costumes, etc. Change annoys people.

Just for glob's sake SEAL YOUR PAINT and look into PAX/fabric body paint solutions. Na'vi and Mystique cosplayers don't get the stink-eye in full body paint, why should we?

Just rambling thoughts. I'm glad to have a place to put them in the Fanime forums. :)

I posted this on FB as well but if my schedule allows it I'd be willing to help out!

Woo! Also I read your name as "keitaighostie" which I thought was the cutest thing ever, but keito's pretty cute too. :3
