Forum Games / This one time at Fanime
June 02, 2012, 06:20:18 AM
Game: From whenever time you post, post where were you and what you were doing during Fanime week at that day and time, if you can remember.

For example; at this time of this post (6:20 am Saturday) at Fanime, I was in the e-gaming hall playing DanceManiax

Does Fanime have a tree in Christmas in the Park? If not, maybe have a tree for next year?

I wonder what the tree would look like...

Ideas and Suggestions / By Fans, For Fans theory
May 31, 2011, 12:37:09 AM
A theory I thought of examining all my recent con experiences:

FanimeCon is no longer an 'anime' convention anymore. Instead of being 'By Fans, For Fans', Fanime has become a convention about fans (of anime/gaming/art/whatever).

Just look at the recent events, panels, forum threads, and most convention related stuff: speed dating, post-con depression, Black & White Ball, Yaoi Bingo, the list goes on.

But are those events about anime? Or are they focused on the people that enjoy them? Back then, panels had an anime industry-based importance to them (such as a Q&A with representatives from Viz Media for example). Now, it's more socially based, as in 'what I can do' or 'make your own', like Artists Alley. Look at the post-con depression threads. They are there because of the interaction of people, not exactly because you didn't get to watch a premiere or see you favorite anime character in cosplay form. Also, look at everyone's favorite convention moment; most are just simply being around the people and not one single convention hosted activity.

I'm not trying to make an argument or create negative debates. It's just an observation of an evolution of the fandom.

Simply put, FanimeCon is now By Fans, For Fans, and About the Fans

Ideas and Suggestions / Sharks playoff party
April 29, 2011, 11:27:02 PM
If the Sharks move on to the Western Conf. Finals and Stanley Cup Finals, the games would be on the same days of Fanime. Any chance Fanime could have a special viewing room of the game(s) or anything special Sharks-related for Fanime?

Hotel and Facilities / Stairs are SO underrated
March 23, 2011, 08:49:40 PM
Piggybacking from the "Elevator Staff" thread under Ideas and Suggestions, I'd like to advocate the use of the hotel stairs more often during the con; so much so that there should be signs from the con promoting stairs.
Of course, I'd hate to see someone in a wheelchair, someone in the very top floor, or an elaborate cosplay get denied elevator use, but for the rest of us, the stairs never hurt anyone, especially if you happen to stay on the lower floors. You would get a workout, too.

Meetings, Gatherings, and Get Togethers / AOD '11
January 09, 2011, 01:34:14 AM
Anyone here planning to attend AOD (Animation of Display, formally Anime Overdose)? It's February 19-20 at SF Japan Center and Kabuki Hotel. [Kinda reminds me of the old Japan Town Anime Fair (JTAF)] I would like to go and depends on work.

Edit: not gonna go due to money and work and Daytona 500 and stuff. Have fun out there

General Anime Chat / Stream or Download?
July 09, 2010, 02:24:42 PM
To save up space in my laptop, desktop, and external hard drives, I recently put to data DVDs all of the anime I have and simply stream new episodes through sites like AnimeSeason and AnimeCrazy. I also use MangaFox and OneManga to read manga online.

Do you stream anime and other shows? If so, what sites do you use often? (not YouTube!)

If you download anime, I'm curious as to how many estimated GBs of anime you have stored, too.

Buy/Sell/Trade / [WTB] FanimeCon logo stuff
June 29, 2010, 11:32:00 AM
Hi. I'm looking for older FanimeCon logo stuff. Specifically, the FanimeCon logo hat/baseball cap and polo shirt that was sold one year. I don't believe the accessories were specific to a year (ex. FanimeCon 2009, etc...), just the FanimeCon and/or ARG logo.

-The hat was half denim color and half khaki color with the FanimeCon logo in baby blue. I believe there was another hat available in a single color and the ARG logo.

-The polo shirt had the FanimeCon logo on the left breast area and an ARG logo on the back collar.

-There was also a denim long-sleeve shirt with both logos on it too.

-I also believe there were FanimeCon mini-Sharpies available once. I still have a black mini-Sharpie with the logo on it and am looking for more.

-Anywhere too where I can find more of the FanimeCon lanyards?

Any information on any FanimeCon logo apparel and accessories would be helpful, thanks!

Things in the Universe / The sports thread
June 22, 2010, 10:04:50 PM
World Cup, Sharks, Giants, 49ers, Raiders, A's, Warriors...whatever you'd like to discuss in this alternate world of sports.

Quickies:
I, for one, am glad I didn't get to be at last week's NASCAR race at Sonoma, because I would not understand what happened to Marcos Ambrose with 7 laps left. Thank you TNT and RaceBuddy. To this day, I still don't understand what happened to his car.

I like England, Italy, or France to win the World Cup...but I'm still amused by the overwhelming vuvuzelas heard nonstop at every game. At least it's something KNBR can talk about rather than bad officiating.

General Convention Discussion / A general Thank You
June 02, 2010, 10:29:42 PM
In general, I'd like to say thank you to the hard working staff and volunteers of FanimeCon for making the convention possible. I know from an recreation and event planner's standpoint, nothing will go smoothly and there will always be criticism and complaints. I'd still like to express my greatest thanks and acknowledgement for all of the things the staff and volunteers have done for the convention and the attendants of the convention. Without you, FanimeCon would not be what it is today. I don't believe the people behind the scenes get enough exposure, respect, and praise for everything they have done, and to maintain the classic "By Fans, For Fans" philosophy. From an attendant's position (not from the staff/vols to attendants, but attendants to staff/vols), I'd like to especially say thank you.

EDIT: Thank you to all staff, vols, guests, attendants, etc. for supporting the American Red Cross as this year's charity to help natural disaster victims.

Also thank you to the Team San Jose, San Jose Convention Center, Civic Auditorium, Hilton, Marriott, and Fairmont hotels and staff for providing us a welcoming venue for such a large collection of people. It is because of the collaboration of the convention and the city that it is an event where people from all over the world will travel for. Thank you again for posting the banners that are still hanging downtown as of Wednesday, symbolizing that FanimeCon is now a San Jose tradition. Thank you too to convention center security and the San Jose Police/Fire departments for always being ready for emergencies and keeping things safe(r).

What's been forgotten since FanimeCon moved to San Jose is that the convention is held on Memorial Day weekend and I'd also like to acknowledge all of the fallen men and women in the military who dedicated their lives for the freedoms we have today, such as having conventions like these (maybe we can play the national anthem during opening ceremonies or masquerade?). FanimeCon salutes you all.

[Please, no bashing or criticism on this thread, just sincere thank yous and well-wishes.]

Registration / What does reg money go towards?
May 23, 2010, 05:40:50 PM
Always been wondering: I know that all staff and volunteers are un-paid; well, paid with free admission; so where does the $50(+) from each pre-, early-, at-con-, artist-alley-table-, swap-meet-space-, etc- registrant go towards?

General Convention Discussion / Rain in forecast

According to NBC Bay Area's 7-day forecast, there is a chance of showers throughout next weekend.
