Hotel and Facilities / Changing room occupancy
May 07, 2008, 11:40:12 AM
So it turns out that one of my friends is going to be crashing in my room this year.  How would I go about changing my room occupancy from one to two?  Would I even really need to change it?

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Talent release form is now available!

Download it here: http://www.geocities.com/flyingducksclan/TALENTRELEASEFORM2008.pdf

All models who are minors, please download and have your parent sign the talent release form!  Your parent or legal guardian must read and sign this before our photo shoot!  If your parent or guardian has any questions or concerns please contact me via PM so I can provide you with my contact information.

All other models you should sign the release form ahead of time as well so that your shoot time won't be taken up by signing the form.

-----------------------------------------------------

That's right folks I'm doing photo shoots again this year since I had such a blast doing it last year!  Once again the shoots will be free (considering that I still consider myself an amateur photographer).  I might create a photo book like I did last year.  Hopefully I will have an even better camera this year too.

So what do you get out of it?  You get copies of all of the photos I take in their original unaltered state no watermarks or borders or photoshoping, just copies of the files directly from my camera.  You are free to do as you please with these photos (although I do request that you contact me if you wish to publish the photos).

However (hey you knew there had to be a catch right?) I will maintain copyright and publishing rights to the photos.  What does that mean?  It means if I want to publish the photos for profit in future I will have the right to do so (although I will contact you and obtain permission if I do).

~EDIT~

OK SIGN UPS ARE NOW UP!  Simply post in this thread or PM/IM me.

DOUBLE EDIT:  Since both Friday and Saturday are now booked up I am going to institute an alternates list for those days.  If someone doesn't show for their shoot (10 minutes late with no contact) or a shoot has to be cut short for whatever reason I will call people on the alternates list, starting with whomever signs up first.  This means that you could be called at anytime on that day.  If you are unavailable/don't answer I'll keep on going down the list.  I also might call you if I decide I don't want my break from 3:30-4.

Sign ups are generally first come first serve, however groups, people who contacted me ahead of time, and anyone who had a photo shoot with me last year has priority.  Also I reserve the right to change this schedual depending on when Musicfest Starts.  If all of the slots get reserved way before the con starts I might add some more times.  Also I might be available for shoots on Thursday and Monday.  Please contact me if you want a shoot on one of those days.

Meet ups will generally be in front of the convention center near the main entrance in front of the fountains.  If you would like to meet up somewhere else let me know.  I will also send everyone my cell phone number so you can contact me.  Please be on time.

But how do you know if I take good pictures?  Good question.  Here are samples of my work from last year:

More examples can be seen here.

I also made a photobook using my cosplay photography for my photography class at UCSC last year.  It can be seen here.

Are you interested in a free photoshoot?  Then post here and let me know!  If the response is especially good I will reserve more time for extra shoots.  Once again this is just an interest thread currently not a time slot reservation thread (that will happen closer to the con).

~EDIT

I should probably mention this: while I enjoy working with everyone if you are under 18 I would prefer to have parent/guardian permission before doing a shoot.  Mainly because I do post many of my favorite photos on the web for everyone to see and I don't want an angry parent contacting me about publishing photos of their son/daughter to the internet without their permission.  I will provide a photo release form for a parent/guardian to sign either ahead of time or at the con.  I know this "sucks" but it is to cover my own liabilities.

Sessions can be extended for individuals with more than one costume.  Multiple sessions can also be booked if you will be wearing different costumes on different days.  If you have a LOT of costumes/variations (say more than I could accommodate during the con) and you live in the Santa Cruz/San Jose area I am willing to meet up with you for an extended photo shoot before or after the con (this probably would involve a fee though.  PM or instant message me if you are interested.)

So was this only for the ZZ concert, or will there be no photography allowed at any of the musicfests?  Because I would love to have some photos of the bands for my photography project...

OK as promised the photo shoot times!
Friday: 3-5PM
Saturday: 2-4PM
Sunday: 2-3 and 5:30-6:30
Monday: 1-2PM

You can meet me near the enterance to the Marriot from the convention floor, although if you would prefer to meet elsewhere I am more than happy to meet you where ever!

Please reply to this thread or PM me with when and where you'd like to meet!  If none of these times work for you let me know and I'll try to work around your schedual.

Hi everyone!  Some of you might have noticed my other post about this in General Discussion, so if you have bear with me.
For those of you who haven't:  I am a student at University of California Santa Cruz taking a photography class.  The final project for my class is to create a photography book, and I have decided that my book will focus on Fanime, specifically the cosplay and anime fandom aspects of fanime.  This book will be put on public display at UCSC during this semester's open studios.  This will be a one off hand made book, although I will probably make a duplicate to donate to the convention.

I will be going around the con looking for models for portraits, but it would be nice to pre-arrange some shoots with cosplayers who know who I am and what my photos are going to be used for.  Oh and in case you're worried no these photos are not going to be put up for sale.

Also I will give you all of the photos I shoot of you for free!  Yes the full quality original files.  No watermarks or resizing!  Just make sure to leave me some contact info after the shoot so I can get them to you.

So how about it?  Would anyone like to pose their cosplay for me?  Just post here and as it gets closer to the con we can arrange times and places to meet.   :D

I am planning on taking photographs of cosplay and general anime fandom at the con this year for a photography class project.  The project will be a photography book that will be put on public display at the University of California Santa Cruz.

I know that most people who cosplay don't mind people taking their pictures, but since any photos I take might be featured in a public art display this might change some people's willingness to be photographed.

I will obviously let people know what I am doing ahead of time, and how I plan on using the photographs I take.  My question is: is simply a verbal agreement enough, or should I bring model release forms?

Another obvious issue are cosplayers under the age of 18.  How should I go about photographing them as most people come to the con without parental supervision?  Would simply asking for their contact information to obtain parental consent before I put the photographs on display work?

I don't plan on selling any of the pictures I take, this project is purely for educational purposes.

Hotel and Facilities / Mini fridge? PS2/DVD use?
May 18, 2006, 02:51:02 PM
A question do the single king bedded rooms at the Marriot inlcude a mini fridge?  If so does the mini fridge have a freezer?

Also do the TV's have AV hookups for a PS2?  Do they already have DVD players attached?

So I'm trying to decide how long I want to stay at Fanime this year.  Last year I only went saturday (well I suppose technically into sunday morning), and was kinda bummed that I didn't go for more days.  However now it's getting very close and I'm trying to decide, do I:
a. Only go for Saturday as I did last year.
b. Go friday afternoon (classes prohibit me from going Friday morning), drink a ton of caffine and stay up all day saturday, then hopefully drive myself home without crashing.
c.  Go for the entire weekend and:
    i.  Go back home for short periods of time and spend a ton on parking
ii.  Try sleeping in my car (pretty sure that the parking garages wouldn't like that...), dark viewing rooms (certain that con-ops won't like that), and/or hallways (certain that security won't like that either).
iii.  Try to bum a space in a room from some people at school (don't know them that well and fairly certain the hotel wouldn't be too appreciative).
iv.  Spend a ton and get my own room (assuming there are rooms left)
d. Say F it, stay home get drunk and watch my own anime.  \:D/

I'm leaning towards c iii but d is also gaining ground.  What do you guys think?
