Sunday's Special Event is TBA.... Stay tuned for more info!
So, along with the Tide Pen, I'm bringing a six pack of threads in neutral colors. ^_^
I'll bring Snaps, Needle-nose pliers, baindaids, q-tips, and cotton rounds.
I can donate some of my hoard of masking tape. I also have a bag of PVC odds and ends if that would be useful.
So at the moment, we don't know exactly where the room will be :) Are there any hints of where they are considering locating it? The place it was in last year wasn't bad, some might say it's a little off the beaten path, but for some that is a good thing rather than bad. At very worst, it may have been a little small, but since I didn't see HUGE amounts of traffic in ther when I was around, it seemed enough for the first year.
A recommendation for the repair station:
Spirit Gum

Maybe even rigid colloidian as well? Lots of folks use that for scars...it's just smelly as anything, so you might want it put in its own ziplock baggie :)

Excellent! That places them in very close proximity to the Masquerade department, even if it's one floor down. Could be convenient for a last minute fix before craftmanship judging :D

where it was last year?
I would gladly bring an assortment of threads and needles I don't really use often enough, snaps and other such things as well, whatever I manage to grab before the convention :D
I can probably donate several things, I'll get back with you after sorting through a bunch of stuff.
There is an update on Post #6 Chopped Cosplay! More info to come!
COSPLAY MADNESS! Got to love it!

I actually have one of those little hand-held sewing machine things I'd be willing to donate... I'll pop it into my footlocker of DOOM so I don't forget to bring it with! ^_^
Psst, B -- you have me on the list from last year, I think, as bringing certain things. I'll definitely look through my Pile o'Stuff and see if there's anything I can donate this year, but the stuff from last year won't be making a repeat appearance. ^^;;;
Chopped Cosplay sounds like it could be a lot of fun. XD
I am willing to try to bring something this year. I think I might have some extra sewing things I don't need any more. Also I am interested in bringing back my sewing by hand q&a if possible.
So I did a massive posting update on posts #1, 2, 4, 5 & 6. Team application for Chopped Cosplay is at the bottom of Post #4 and the Fabric swap info is also up. Oh and did you notice there are 2 ROOMS :) Repair station is located in Market Room this year!
I will update the donation information later because it is crunch time and I have lots to do INCLUDING updates to the Offical gatherings & events list :)
@ AnimefanJJ: I would love to have your hand sewing Q&D see the Post 2 for submission info and lets get you Q&D on post 1! :)
@ Charis: Opps :P I'll fix that when I get to update the list
@tatterpixie: That would be AWESOME... I'll add it to the list when I update the repair station info.

I didn't realize this happened last year, but I think it is awesome. I do have one of those singer handheld machines and wouldn't mind permanently donating it to the cause. I have other notions I can donate as well. If I make it to the next staff meeting I'll try and pass them off then.
I'd love to do a q&d as well, but have no clue what people would like to see. I can do anything from pattern manipulation to draping. I also know how to make simple but effective draping dummies.. I can also show how to make simple consafe swords with sheaths. I'd love to hear if anyone has any particular things they'd like to see.

Updated post # 6 and Post # 7
The cosplay hangout this year was AMAZING! They had really tasty citrus water (fancy), balloons (my friend and I started a game of catch/volleyball), make-up and alll of your cosplay needs, chairs, beanbags, and a convenient location right next to a major cosplay gathering area! this was my first time, and I will definitely go back again! You may, however, want to make the No Press rule a little more obvious (I got the rule, but I did notice some taking pictures.)
So as a quick update for the 2013 line up in the Cosplayer Hangout... I want to fill up the Q & D/Workshop/Panel times during the day as soon as possible for 2013 because I WANT THIS in the FanimeCon Program Guide for 2013!
Things that are returning for 2013:
Fabric Swap!
No Fear Props!
CHOPPED COSPLAY!
Cosplayer Crane Ceremony (Friday night @ FCC HS)
CGD Department raffles
Cosplayer Repair Station (DONATIONS NEEDED)
water station
NEW FOR 2013!
Cosplay CLUE!
Furry Cooling Station
more TBA!
Post your ideas and suggestions for the cosplayer hangout here! BTW... We plan to stay in the same location for 2013! *YEAH!
One thing that'd be interesting to see is what sort of panels/Q&Ds/etc. people would be interested in seeing in the cosplayer hangout. I've thought about trying to do one or two, but I'm terrible at ideas and gauging what people might want to learn about ...
I'm planning a major clean in the next handful of months; if I find anything that might be helpful for the hangout, I'll save it to donate -- and I certainly hope the fabric swap's at a time I can make next year! Goodness knows I've got enough random odds and ends ...

If I make it to Fanime 2013 I am super excited to see Chopped Cosplay! Awesome that it'll be around again, it was totally awesome to watch last year!
Gotta cool all those cosplayers! If anyone can make a PVC "tree" with say 3" or 4" pipe someone can probably attach a blower and use the "tree" to direct airflow to service multiple cosplayers/fursuiters at once :D
I'll get you a write up for the "cosplaying for your body type" or other name soon as well as a "sewing 101 dont' fear the sewing machine!"
i think i'm going to have too much fun on that one.

I could probably host some sort of Q&D Session or Workshop.
I have 3 official panels:
http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,18135.0.html
I can touch on similar topics again, though it seems like you already have a props-oriented session. Here are some other possible ideas for discussions.
Costuming and Film - Talking about the difference between approaching costuming for conventions vs film. I can discuss my experiences in filming in costume, putting actors in costumes, what happens when a costume designed for costumers to wear is tossed onto an unprepared actor, differences in priorities when approaching costume construction, etc. as well as some ways to get started in the industry for those interested.
That Armor/Costume Makes No Sense! - Where we critique how uncomfortable and nonsensical some costume designs are, no matter how cool they may look. (e.g. how deceptively simple looking the Madoka costumes look to non-costumers; armor where if it was made like it actually appears you wouldn't be able to move)
I can probably think of some more later as well if those don't sound appealing.

Looking for teams for Chopped Cosplay!
I would love to do chopped cosplay again it was so much fun last year (I was captain for the Moogle group). It would be helpful to first know minimally what day the actual competition is going to be so I can recruit a team with that in mind.
i have updated post #1 & posts 4 - 7.
@ pitin: Chopped Cosplay and Team Application are up! Check Post #1 for post locations.

Thank you for posting the day and time for the Copped competition! However, I'm concerned about the time that was selected as it overlaps with two major con. events, MusicFest and to a lesser extent the Steampunk Ball. These are events that I and my friends are very keen on attending and I'm worried that it might also impact the overall audience attendance for the Copped Cosplay competition. I understand if this is set in stone or rather inflexible due to other scheduling conflicts. I just thought that I would voice my concern here.

It is actually scheduled for the same time as it was last year :) We did not have to run eliminations on Friday last year, however if we have a lot of teams then we run eliminations on Friday so that we end up with 4 teams for the competition. The Steampunk ball lasts for hours so even if you take out two hours to do the competition you will have plenty of time to enjoy the ball and as for MusicFest... well that is if we have a lot of teams. I hope this encourages your team to apply and come compete :)

I have cleaned up the first six posts to reflect the many changes coming to the hangout in 2014. The first post has the updated Post key to help you find what you are looking for.
Chopped Cosplay has announced this years theme of "Attack on Titans!" The team application will be up in the next week or two which will give those competitive cosplay creation teams a chance to formulate a strategy and develop their character representation ideas.... ok, for some it will give them a reason to watch this great anime series to become familiar with it all :P All I can say is.... I'm SOOOO EXCITED! and I just can't hide it!... oh sorry got lost in the moment *LOL
Hope this streamlined version helps people get the info pre con.

The basic repair kit stuff is always helpful :) but as for specifics, hummm I don't have my inventory sheet in front of me right now but it would be awesome if someone wanted to donate small tools: screw drivers, pliers, and allen wrenches... There is someone always in need of this kind of stuff. for the make up side of things I have been hoping to get two light up mirrors so cosplayers can touch up their make up. Maybe some makeup wedges for foundation, cotton rounds, q tips and either those fingernail polish wipes that are packaged or one of those small swirl your finger type ones would be a plus. Can always use stuff for wigs: hairspray, gel, wax and that sort of stuff so cospeeps can touch up their hair. This is all I can think of off the top of my head, so if any cospeeps want to donate to the repair station here is some of the things we are in need of. As you can see we do a whole lot more than hot glue and safety pens... oh speaking of pens.. Silver, Gold, Red, and Black sharpies are ALWAYS needed.

My initial reaction to the Chopped Cosplay theme as AoT, "oh that's so cool! I
love Shingeki". Then after really thinking about what I would want to make and what everyone else will probably make it was, "maybe not such a great idea..." It will end up as: who's gonna win, the soldier in the uniform, the soldier in the uniform, the soldier in the uniform, or TWIST the forth soldier has a cloak instead of a jacket! On the one hand it would be interesting to see how people use materials differently to create the same thing but I think that would work well for one round on one item, not so much for 3 rounds and 4 teams. Yes, there are ways that you can mix it up and do something a little off the wall and different but I think the parameters of the competition should allow this to be the exception, not force it as the rule. Also, speaking from experience those "creative alternatives" are going to be further limited by the requirement that we include the secret ingredient items. I honestly think a better choice would have been Tales of..., Sword Art Online, Vocaloid, Pokemon, even Naruto. If you want something current events relevant go with Ghibli! That's very relevant right now. I have a feeling that the only reason that Attack on Titan was chosen was because of it's EXTREME popularity right now. However, it just isn't the sort of show that lends itself to excessive creativity. Honestly, I have a feeling that by the end of this con everyone is going to get a little sick of Shingeki. Then again maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm the only one that's worried about something like this, just thought I would offer my take on it.

I can assure you that the staff have thought this also and our reasoning to stick with it is how this competition is designed that it won't be as easy as it seams. First off you start out with four teams with one team getting eliminated each round. Second of all is incorporating the secret ingredient given each round into the cosplay so that can become a challenge. Third, well it has to all work... meaning if your real manikin can't move in it without it falling apart then it is going to hurt the team. Even if there are two or more of the same character the bottom line is the playing field is leveled at the start with each team having the same basic ingredients and access to the pantry starts changing the dynamic of the individual cosplay from the get go. This is a VERY competitive competition. The creativity that happens is unreal.
We have already discussed opening up the theme for Chopped 2015 to the fans so look for a separate thread to appear soon where you can post your ideas. The top ten will be presented to the Chopped Cosplay audience to pick their top five and then we go to a timed poll to select the theme for 2015.

Question!
My sister, friends, and I would love to apply to be a team for Chopped Cosplay, but it's looking like it's going to interfere with the Swap Meet. I know it says pending for Friday, but is there any chance of it being moved to a bit earlier?
Additionally, are you still actually taking applications? :3

It was posted on the Fanime FB page yesterday that they are looking for more teams to participate (and I just sent in my team's app yesterday). I would suggest applying anyway even if not everyone can make it on Friday. If we don't have more then 4 teams then it will just be an informational meeting as it has been in the past. Whoever can make it can relate everything to your team members that couldn't.
So excited for Chopped Cosplay! I haven't been able to do anything like it since AOD stopped having their Iron Cosplay competitions. Here's hoping my team can participate. <3

If the response you got was something to the effect of "your application was received. I will forward it to the Chopped Team." Then don't sweat it, your application was accepted and the next step is to show up Friday at 6pm in the Market Room of the Hilton Hotel. They will give out more information about the competition then and possibly hold the qualifier round if we have more then 4 teams. If you have any other questions I can try to answer them. I'm not staff but I've participated in this event before.
Though I also have a question for the Chopped Cosplay staff:Are there more then 4 teams signed up right now? (there seems to be more interest surrounding the event then there has been in previous years)

Since we are now getting down to a week before con I just wanted to check in on when we might be hearing more information about Chopped Cosplay. I got an e-mail saying the application was going to be forwarded to the right people, but I wanted to know if I should expect any further contact before arriving for the Friday event?
Thanks all, see you soon!

The Chopped Cosplay Team Applications are CLOSED! :) Post #5 has been updated with day/time/location info on the Qualifying Round and the Teams are listed. There will be an email out today (I believe) to the team captains which will have the Team Handbook attached along with Qualifying Round information. Please check with your captains on that information.
The QR time starts at 6:30pm and after the four teams and one alternate win there will be the team orentation immediately following. It should all be done by 8pm so have your questions ready should your team make it to the show.
GOOD LUCK to ALL the Teams and Thank You for your participation in Chopped Cosplay 2014! It's going to be a FANTASTIC SHOW!

Good thing you asked. I sort of just assumed it would be.
I don't know if anyone will be able to answer this in time (staff or previous Chopped Cosplay participants) but I'm hoping so:
For the qualifying round there's no theme: does that mean my team gets to pick a random character and make it? Or will we be told something/someone to make?
Same thing for the main event if we make it past qualifiers, are we given an AoT character to make? Or do we pick one?
I'm just trying to figure out what to expect given the rules that were sent out regarding what you can and can't bring. (I'm not sure reference images make sense unless we choose who we're making.)

For the actual competition you choose what cosplay you are making. In the past anything related to the theme has been fair game. I was also wondering about the qualifier, I have an idea of what our team might make but I'm worried that I'll show up to the qualifier and be told we have to make a specific kind of prop or something.

The team captains were given info to distribute to their teams. There is a contact person that the team can ask their questions to.
Are there any pictures available from the chopped cosplay event?
I was the Film Guy at the event. All I can confirm is that there is footage, and B has it. I will try and do an edit myself of it, but its her footage and I am one to respect her wishes of doing one herself. do note that she usually recovers from con for a bit, and then she is back on her feet.
Oh! Thank you for your response. :)
Chopped Cosplay 2015 anyone? >:D
