So, you think you're a 2k7 fan? Ok LongCat, can you handle this?
The flicks, the fashions, the trends, the tunes, the tv, the gatherings, the totally awesome year that gave us these burning questions:

How much madness could could you handle in Sparta?

Blah blah blah, VH1, I get it. Anyway, it's time to list our favorite things from 2007.
Here is my list:

Favorite gathering:
All the one's at Jerry's, just because he's Jerry.

Favorite tv show:
Death Note

Favorite 2k7 flick:
300

Favorite 70s flick:
The Poseidon Adventure

I'll post more later. Heres to the new year, everybody! :D

Gaming / GameStop Opens “Tournament Store”
December 12, 2007, 05:59:13 PM

QuoteBy Kris Graft       Print    |   Send to a friend    |   Email the editor
Game retail giant GameStop announced on Tuesday the opening of a 4,000 sq. ft. facility that will serve as both a retail and videogame tournament center.
The San Jose, Calif. facility is the first of what GameStop said is a series of tournament-focused stores.

The new center will boast 24 networked gaming stations equipped with plasma monitors.

Tournament events will occur "most weekends" with "GameStop system-wide tournament finals occurring at least once a quarter."

The first tournament is being held on December 15 from noon to 4 p.m., featuring Madden NFL 08. The winner will receive a $1,000 GameStop shopping spree.

It's unclear how many of these stores GameStop intends to open. Reps for the company were unavailable as of press time.

GameStop currently has over 5,000 stores worldwide.

It says the first one is open in San Jose. Where is it specifically though?
I'm curios.

I wanna visit New York someday in the future, but I though maybe make the trip a gathering idea.
Bear in mind I'd like to wait more than a year or so from now so that I can save enough money to go.
I wanna visit the five boroughs:

-The Bronx (Yankee Stadium)
-Brooklyn (Coney Island, if it will still be around)
-Manhattan (Central Park)
-Queens (Catch a Mets game?)
-Staten Island (???)

I'm thinking maybe in 2009/2010, so hopefully I'll have enough cash to visit them all.
or
If I win the Lottery, I'll treat everybody in the FaniMafia that wants to go. ;D

What do you think?

Hotel and Facilities / Hotel key question
May 20, 2007, 11:30:11 PM
I put my reservation down as a "Single Person" "One Bed" deal. The reservation is in my name, but my mom let me use her credit card.
So I wanna know if, when I check into the Hilton and ask for an extra key, will they give it to me or not? Changing my reservation isn't really an option for me right now.

-If yes, that will help me alot, for my roomate.
-If not, I'll have to tell my roomate to cancel on me. I don't want to find out the hard way.

Thanks in advance.

I was there today, and I thought that maybe I should plan a gathering there.
Here are pics I took months ago:

But I'll need some suggestions. Like having it someday after Fanime. I'll need to look up the racing seasons though. And what kind of room should I look into?
What do you think?

Couldn't find the original thread. What happened?

Anyway rate the last movie I watched:

Missing in Action (1984, Chuck Norris)

EDIT:
WILDCARD!

Whenever I do that, the next poster has to rate a random movie that he or she has ACTUALLY SEEN, then write the title of the last movie that person has seen. To prevent confusion, only I (Barnes) can declare a WildCard.

Gaming / Do you believe in video game "cheapness"
March 10, 2007, 04:10:27 PM
I'll admit I've used the word "cheap" on computer and human players before.
But I'm debating whether or not to quit using the word with video games. Maybe I'll only use it for computer opponents that I can't beat, I don't know.
Maybe there is no such thing as cheap, and it's all about skill.
I found an interesting piece about cheapness, but I'll post it later.

I dunno. What do you think?

Gaming / Video Arcade Location thread
February 10, 2007, 11:11:33 AM
Same thing as in the backup forums. I'm starting this again.

Arcade name:Nickel City
Location:Branham Lane, near Camden and Highway 85
Who lives near it?:Barnes
Website: www.myspace.com/nickelcity
Notes:Games cost nickels to play, and an admission fee is needed for entry, and sometimes live bands will play on Friday in the party room.

I'll edit this post with more arcade locations as this thread moves on. Don't post your opinion in the notes part, I'll erase those.

Arcade name: Boomers! Modesto

Location: Right off Pelandale in Modesto

Who lives near it?: Deepbluevibes

Notes: Deepbluevibes does NOT like this place, apparently.

Arcade Name: Casino Grand Arcade
Location: Connected to Cocoanut Grove and The Boardwalk (Santa Cruz)
Locals: Zoupzuop2, the Sugars (right?)
Notes: WILL NOT ALLOW Tournament play (insurance for such a thing is literally well over $1 million). Also hosts laser tag games, which they announce frequently. Music games include DDR Supernova, ITG2.1, DanceManiax, Percussion Masters, Beatmania (something), MTV 'Drumscape' or something (has Kansas, Boston, and other wonderful bands). HAS THREE SUB-ARCADES, some depending on park status:

Sub-Arcade Name: Neptune's Kingdom
Location: Next to Boardwalk
Locals: Zoupzuop2, Sugars
Notes: There's two levels; the upper "deck" arcade and the arcade found a little ways to the left on the first floor. Music games include PIU Exceed, Drummania 10. Some features of N's K are closed down during its 24 hr. span.

Sub-Arcade Name: Cannonball ????? (something)
Location: In the shaded walkway connecting the Grove to the Casino.
Locals: Zoupzuop2, Sugars
Notes: Small arcade that is connected to Neptune's Kingdom, but sometimes has its own, varying open/close times. Music games include DDR Extreme and Rhythm Fusion or something (a BM knockoff).

Sub-Arcade Name: Fun-Land
Location: On the other, "western" end of the Boardwalk park, close to the ticket stand
Locals: Zoupzuop2, Sugars
Notes: This one is directly tied to the park's status. Music games include DDR Extreme (although poorly maintained), MTV Drumscape, HipHopMania (not QUITE BM, but still considered canon to the series...).

Arcade Name : FunQuest
Location : Reno, NV Bottom Level of the Grand Sierra Resort
Locals : BrightHeart76
Note : This was my first job. Laser Tag arena, Bumper Cars, redemtion games, arcade style games, miniature golf, Round Table Pizza, Port of Subs, Ice Cream Store, Candy Store and Movie Theater on the same Level, Bowling upstairs. Outside there is a driving range on it's own concrete lake, Ultimate Rush Thrill ride and Go Kart racing. Coming soon there'll also be an indoor waterpark. For the suck that is Reno, this place is actually pretty darn cool.

Gaming / EVO2K7:EVO WORLD results!
February 09, 2007, 11:10:24 PM
The site:

www.evo2k.com

Well, anyway, I'm considering going to the event, just for the heck of it. I asked Dr. O for a second opinion. Heres what he said:

Quote from: "Otakuappreantice"*if you are good enough, and if you can get to EVO, then go.

But which one should I go to?
The L.A. one, or the Las Vegas one?
Here is a good article on how to get to the Vegas part:

http://shoryuken.com/?p=103#more-103

Other than that, what do you think?
#64
I'm repeating the same thread I made from the back up forums.

But I'm close to 100% positive that I'm going this year.
I'm Pre-registered, and my Hotel room has been reserved. I just need to figure out a roomate deal.

I think that should do it for now.

Registration / Check Mailing Questions
September 22, 2006, 10:52:45 PM
When I got my confirmation for registration, it said to send the check to a P.O. Box. Then I looked at my pre-reg account payment page, it said to send the check to an Ave.
Question: Which is correct? The P.O. Box address or the Ave.
address?
Thanks.

I'd like to know some history behind cosplay competetions of Fanime's past. Like, what were they like (before 2005)? What was your favorite year? etc.
One more question: Has anyone in the skits ever used the Flinstones theme, for comedic effect? (Like that one dude in 2k5 that danced to SpongeBob)

Registration / Badge question
August 18, 2006, 04:50:46 PM
I don't remember if my question has ever been asked on this forum before. So here goes:
If a person has only say, a Friday badge (an example), can he/she go into certain midnight marathons? Esp. the 18+ ones?

Thanks.
#68
I've always wondered what cosplayers do with their costumes once they are done with them.
Like........
-Are the costumes stored?
-Or donated to a friend?
-Or modified for another costume?
-Are they worn again?

I have no idea :?

What do you think?
#69
Since I can't think of any complaints about the con itself right now,  I'll post my complaints about the Marriott:

-Elevators: Way too fast for me, made me dizzy.

-Cooling: The only way I could keep my milk cold was to put ice in the black round thing and change it every few hours. That annouyed me. My mom brought in a foam cooler, but my friend cracked it.

-Bathroom: I like to have a lock on my bathroom door.

My solution: I'm going back to the Hilton next year.

General Anime Chat / Appleseed
January 14, 2005, 09:38:47 PM
Was there a thread for this before? I can't remember.
Anyway I'm gonna find a way to see this film. It will be playing at the AMC 14 in Saratoga. I have no idea what the film is about, so I'll look it up.

So what do you think?

General Anime Chat / anime characters and the DIP
September 03, 2004, 03:12:54 PM
Somethings been bugging me lately. Could anime characters be killed by the DIP?I'm talking about the DIP from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".
On one hand, maybe they can't, because Japanese animators draw their characters much differently (I don't know).
On the other, maybe they can, because well, they are cartoons and the DIP kills cartoons.
(This might be more obvious than I thought)

In general, I prefer maids, but I really like looking at Steel Angel Saki as a combo of both, so I'll go with both.
(I'm making a poll)

General Anime Chat / Newtype USA and anime network
July 30, 2004, 11:21:52 PM
I've read recently that with Newtype, the only way to get the free dvd each month is to suscribe. Not an option for me since I currently can't afford the subscriction price.
I don't get Anime Network but I've read that since its getting into mainstream cable, it will no longer be uncut. Is that true?
Any thoughts?
#75
I'm wondering because it seems that every anime company does someone to make fans MAD!
The only company that bother me is 4Kids, beacuse they don't release any anime uncut and subbed.Actually they bring out and butcher titles that most forum members here probably don't really care for. For anyone here that likes One Piece, I guess the only option is the original manga ($Kids licensed the anime).
When Nelvana got Cardcaptor Sakura on tv (butchered), atleast Geneon/Pioneer somehow gave us the original series subtitled, that don't bother me.
Even ADV makes fan cringe, espcially when they've been trying to screw over lots of fansubbing groups and licensing anime before it even gets finished airing in Japan (other companies license things fast too, but ADV is like yikes!).
If I watch an anime on dvd and the dub is bad, I'll just switch to subbed, simple as that.

So what do you think?
