Thanks again for performing dude, you were fantastic. :) I tipped you a dollar when I passed you in the reg line, but you deserved way more.

Resolved!
Looking for 2-3 roommates.
+ Introduction: I'm Al, a 20something artist who has been selling in the fanime Artist's Alley for the last few years. I'm a generally relaxed sort of person. I haven't really kept up with new anime and manga in recent years, but I really like the convention atmosphere. Some of my hobbies are tabletop role-playing games, board games, and comics. I'm a non-cosplayer and will be spending most of my time in the Artist's Alley.
+ Hotel Information: San Jose Fairmont thurs-mon. Single queen, but I'm not particularly attached to getting the bed for myself.
+ Costs: Depends on how many people join the room. If one more joins, it'll be around $200. Two more, $135. Three more, $100. While four people total in the room is the most I'd really like to have, I'd be willing to stretch to adding a fourth person, in which case it'd be $81. I'd prefer payment in cash at the start of the con but we may be able to negotiate something else.
+ Requirements: Ideally someone over 18, but I'll consider 16-17 if I am able to speak with you a bit beforehand. Please be willing to keep the room clean, or at least contain your mess to a small section of it. (Basically, don't toss your stuff all around the room.) Cosplayers are welcome, there'll be plenty of bathroom and closet space. Be respectful of other people's belongings.
+ Contact: You can send me a PM here, email me at piraticalartist (at) gmail (dot) com, or send me an ask at pi-ratical.tumblr.com

Up until this year, I didn't have a smart phone. If you can, I'd suggest getting together some references of popular characters you're not familiar with and loading them onto an mp3 player - most of them can display jpegs. If you still don't know the character, just ask for references. You can point them towards the kinkos down the street if they don't have any on hand. There's nothing wrong with saying "I'm sorry, I don't know that character." If the commissioner really wants a picture of that character, they'll probably be willing to provide reference. :)

Shrinky-dinks don't curl up all that often in my experience, and I think they look a lot nicer than laminate keychains. You pretty much just print them, cut them, and then put them in the oven for five minutes. No hassle at all. It is generally best to keep an eye on them when they're baking, both to make sure nothing goes wrong and because they're neat to watch, but it isn't hard. If you ever wind up wanting to give shrinky-dinks a try, here's a tutorial.

I guess they're definitely not doing in the order that accounts were submitted, then. I submitted at 12:04 and haven't gotten confirmed yet.

I'm definitely in favour of this. The extra 7,000 sq. feet should allow a few more tables, and though I've never had trouble getting a table it has been really clear for the past few years that the demand for tables far exceeds the supply. The game room on the other hand is only half-covered every year unless the swap meet is going on.

According to my local BoE office, you call them and have the con's address temporarily added.

Guys, I don't think they've even had the lottery yet.
Quote from: sysadmin* This lottery draw probably won't happen until after all those negotiations are complete, so you'll have to be patient.

That was posted two days ago. I realise you're anxious about getting a table but don't get ahead of yourselves.
#9
Dunno if they'll publicly post all of the winning artists, as that could be troublesome, but I expect they'll let us know once the lottery is over and will send emails to all of the artists who got tables out of it.
#10
It could be that they only wanted half a table and there was a half-table left? -wild guessing-
#11
Uh, let me check.... 224?
#12
My account was approved, but it's going to be a couple of days before I can send the payment. That isn't going to result in me losing my table or anything, right? >_<
#13
It' s also possible you may find someone willing to share their table space, Quatrina.

I'm not an official source, so please don't take me 100% on this. I'm fairly certain, based on what I've read and what I've experienced in previous years, that it's perfectly fine for your friends/helpers to sell your art. The important thing is that they cannot make sales if their name is not on the table. In the registration form, when you added more people to your table, I think I remember being a box you could check off that said the person wouldn't be contributing art. If you didn't add them then I think you can email the AA staff to get them added. If you have friends/helpers that aren't on the table, they're allowed to sit behind your table and watch it while you take a bathroom break but they're not allowed handle money.

Actually, it was posted on the forums first. The forums were down because of the traffic, but there was a message when you tried to load them that said 'looking for AA reg?' and had a link to the reg page. Once the forums were back up, somebody came and posted it again since the original message was no longer there.
#16
That question came up on the facebook page, I believe the answer was that they'd like you to email them at the usual AA email address with the other pieces you plan to sell once you finish them. :)
#17
Absolutely, as long as the AA rules don't change in a way that prevents me from doing so. :)

I wouldn't call my Etsy shop complete, exactly, but it's set up to the point of functioning. I'm still learning a lot about etsy. ^^;

Maybe I'm just paranoid or missing something, but this does rub off as a bit creepy and to some extent stalkerish for me. :/

It's not just you. I've been debating saying more or less the same thing - Posting once or twice to say you'd like to meet up with someone is fine, but getting to the "soul mate" point kind of crosses a line. If I were that guy, I'd be specifically avoiding responding at this point. >_<

On topic - I was at an artist's alley table all weekend, but I'd love to keep in contact with the people who stopped by and talked to me. :) I was table 240, right near the staff table. I had a samurai champloo print, a soul eater print, a bunch of hellsing prints, and some anime-themed lip balm for sale.

Svetlana Chmakova would be pretty cool. :) I know she's done cons on the west coast before.

The fairmont turning the rice cooker down is a bit odd. My group stayed in the fairmont, visibly brought a rice-cooker with us, and the hotel didn't say a word.
