Hello old schoolers!!

Thank you all so much for attending the FanimeCon 2018 Old School (Pre-2001) Cosplay Gathering!

2018 marked the third consecutive year we have hosted the Old School (Pre-2001) Cosplay Gathering at FanimeCon. The link below is the full gallery of pictures we took at the gathering as host and co-host.

This is the full set of high-resolution, unedited, non-watermarked, uncropped pictures from the gathering. Cosplayers - please feel free to share, tag, download, crop, use on your cosplay pages, etc. This is everything, so there may be some shots that are a bit blurry, or have someone moving, or are during a photo order setup - but they are all presented so you may crop and edit them as you see fit. We did the best we could, as always, and we were without an official photographer this year. The first dozen or so pictures are a little rosy but we corrected our camera settings from then on.

Additionally be sure to check out the second post in this thread for galleries from other photographers who were at the gathering.  They will be added as they are found.

This gathering is for you, for us, who cosplay as these characters! Thank you to all who attended or showed interest in this gathering. We hope to see you all again for FanimeCon next year and the 2019 Old School Cosplay Gathering!! It will always be held the evening of Fanime Friday!

Hello! I was wondering if anyone took photos of me from Friday-Sunday? I was cosplaying as Fullbring Ichigo from Bleach, and on Sunday I brought my Rukia Kuchiki body pillow that got a lot of love and photos taken of! My facebook is https://www.facebook.com/patrick.esquivel and my  Instagram is @Kuchiki_Patrick

Thank you!

We had a HUGE tornout, so we may get to choose a bigger spot next year! I will make a Facebook page and the more people that join the better the spot we get.

All photos are at fanimecon.slickpic.com under Sunday 3pm-4pm, and also under Thomas (me) and Richard's folders.
I still think Sunday afternoon is the best time.

There wasn't a big turnout, but I'm gonna blame the event being on Friday. Let's try again next year!

Much love to Game Saru for helping us out with our first free play Arcade. I think FanimeCon Gaming achieved most of the points here except for #5, with #4 / #7 being debatable.

#5 requires an interesting chat with our Facilities team and actually making sure the Tabletop areas stay somewhat clean (another issue of its own).

#4 - I definitely did see the arcade area being quite popular. However, the area design did kinda limit its potential and its a high priority topic for 2019.

#7 - We still want more nightlife options in Gaming. The free play arcade did solve a part of it.

I could be wrong, but I think non-anime cosplays can compete as a skit only, so that is probably why an Overwatch something won. I do admit those costumes are pretty intricate... There also were a handful of awards given (as listed in the Fanime booklet) so maybe that's why "everyone" got an award? I agree in general though that anime-specific (Asian-origin/inspired) should be the only cosplays judged as listed on the website...but as last year was any indication - "if someone wants to compete in a non-Asian-origin/inspired, then why turn them away?" - it was totally not fair.

Also, to point out that the "good cosplayers stay outside and just take photos" - it's probably because it eats up a majority of the evening - a 3 hour masquerade event, is actually more 4+ for those participating.

I know you're not happy, but I'm kinda glad I didn't compete this year. Maybe next year will be better??

OK now that i'm not hungover any more i have to say something about the masquerade.  WTF is going on??? This year was such a freaking joke it is not even funny. So it looks like the judges were giving awards to everyone who did anything but a skit, like it's some kind of talent show. Oh, girls were dancing with their butts hanging out. Clearly that's good enough for Best in Show!!!! Oh, a Doomfist (WTF is Overwatch doing in the contest anyway??) did a flip. That's good enough for an award!! And the Space Marine got nothing and it looked amazing!! If non anime things got awards why didn't he?? This thing has become such a joke with terrible costumes winning the biggest awards. No wonder the good cosplayers stay outside and just take photos.
