Title: Fanimaid Cafe 2010
Post by: Mizuki on December 01, 2009, 01:25:10 AM
Hi everyone, tryouts for the Cafe have not started, but will start around February.

Some basic requirements are:
1) Must be Female (No exceptions!)
2) Must be 16 or older by the event
3) Must be able to supply your own uniform
4) Must be able to attend to at least 2 meetings (with your own means of transportation)

If you are interested in becoming a Fanimaid, please drop an email at maidcafe at fanime dot com

Check up on this thread to keep yourself updated!

And no, there will be no Butler Cafe/Host Club or anything else integrated into the cafe, and will not be considered at the time.

Thanks.

TBA but they will be split between San Jose and San Francisco. They will probably be in Jan-Feb to try out, and then a follow up meetings will probably be held march-may.

Would one of these make a good uniform or are you looking for something less lolita styled?

The second link is more maid style but to be honest I wouldnt get a uniform until after try outs. Also keep in mind that Lolita and Maid have nothing to do with each other.

As one of Rovers representative for the Maid Cafe I'll probably stop by at least one meeting to say hi.

Assuming Steve Young's schedule is open, he may or may not try to stop by as well.

Good luck to all of you ladies who are interested and thanks for your continued support of the Maid Cafe for 2010 and beyond.

Hi, as Kazuko stated earlier, I would not recommend getting a uniform before you are confirmed for the cafe. We will discuss what is a proper uniform at the meetings, so please do not discuss these matters in this thread.

I will second mind Mizuki only to tell you...

The linked outfits are a definite no. Absolutely not, as it's not even a maid uniform in any way shape or form. Lolita dresses are not maid outifts. Black and white != maid. Like, honestly, if you tried to put an apron over that, it would look hideous.

But to reitterate.

Lolita != Maid

But yeah, if you are buying a uniform for the maid cafe, you're better off waiting until you're accepted, so you don't buy something that doesn't qualify.

Heeeey! Guess who's back! ;D

Sorry if I've been a bit later on responding the e-mails lately. Been very very busy!

In regard to the uniforms, I must mention that I highly do NOT recommend purchasing a uniform before you have been accepted. The reason behind this is that all uniform designs/photos must be approved of, before being worn into the cafe. This is to ensure quality of the design, suitability for the cafe, and if it is appropriate for us to allow our maids to wear.

I will also second that Gothic Lolita =/= Maid uniform! Thank you for understanding.

I can't wait for Fanimaid Cafe '10. We had a huge success the last year, many great things coming from working at the cafe, many great friends were maid. (Har har, get it. Yes, I'm a dork.) I hope that many of our new girls that decide to join us will have just as much fun as we did during Fanime '09, and the rest of the year together, as well! Good luck to all of you.

Oh, and I guess I should include this, which I've included in some of the emails recently sent out.

As this is our second year using this system of try-outs, it will be a little more competitive. Girls will be judged on their performance and appearance, as well. This includes their working capability as a maid and a waitress, meaning, they must be able to play the role of a maid. This includes being able to bow properly, speak the given phrases, and look the part. I recommend that all girls trying out to be a maid wear something flattering and cute to give us the impression of what kind of maid you're aiming to be! Many of these things will be learned at our meetings, but judging of who to be hired is done throughout the entire session. Don't stress, though. It isn't hard, at all!

If anyone has any questions or concerns about volunteering for the maid cafe, please attend the FanimeCon meeting on January 24th, Sunday, and look for me! This is not a try-out, and it is optional for volunteers to attend. Thank you!

If you e-mailed [email protected] your mail will be saved in a list. The announcement for meetings will be made via this list as well as announced on the forums.

Yes, this will count toward volunteer hours, but it will not be enough to qualify for the reimbursement alone. So if you're volunteering else where, this will add to that.

Open, as long as you fit the listed requirements.

Atleast 16 yo, are able to provide your own transportation+maid uniform, etc.

We will hopefully be able to. We're not sure where the meetings will be held exactly at this time. There is an issue finding a public venue where we can do this. If you are on the mailing list, you will be getting mail about where the meetings will be taking place fairly soon.

It matters what part you want to be in. This year we will be having more maid cafe events including things on stage zero and other possible ventures. As well we will be having the Fanimaid Live as we did last year. More details will be conversed at the meetings.

Cmon Ryu, you should know better than this - *face palm*

I think Jun. Mikey, and Mizuki would say No.
Guidelines have already stated that all interest applicants must be 16 years old at the time of Con.

Your friend will have to wait next year... and besides shouldn't she post and/or Ask herself?
I find it odd that you had to ask for her [but thats neither here or there I suppose]

As far as public training locations go, would either SF Union square and/or the Yerba Beuna Gardens [behind the Sony Metreon]  work ?
Both are pretty accessible by public transit and I would like to think you could  find a semi quiet spot to hold your maid meetings/trainings. I thought it was a previous meeting place--- or I'm getting it confused with a different meet up site.  :P

as far as San Jose area meetings go - its usually easy to have them set up before or after Fanime Staff meetings--- which of course will be announced soon by Mizuki or Jun.

The problem with outdoor venues is that there is always a chance of rain. Not to mention People could get lost, or distracted by random things.

As our meeting dates aren't announced yet, there's a chance that we might not have San Francisco meetings this year. It was only something I decided to do in case people in that area would find it more accessible, but I've noticed that groups for San Francisco are SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than those who attend meetings in San Jose.

A huge issue with it was that because it was outdoors, it was difficult to conduct a meeting, especially with the weather being quite distracting-- like wind and rain. Fanime only provides us meeting space on the days of actual staff meetings in SJ, so we may only have just those. I apologize in advance to those who are only able to attend them in SF.

All uniforms go through an approval system after you are confirmed for being a maid at our cafe. All information regarding uniforms will be included in our try-out meetings. Good luck!

If you are not part of the current Fanimaid Cafe mailing list, please e-mail [email protected] and tell us you're interested, and you will be automatically added for updates!

I apologize for the lack of updates, as things have been very busy lately and I have been unable to respond to each message individually. If you are part of our mailing list, please expect a more informational e-mail soon!

I will address what Fanimaid Cafe is about, our requirements, expectations for our volunteers, try-out dates, and options for our veteran maids as well as plans for our upcoming Fanimaid☆LIVE performance. Try-out dates are not yet confirmed, but the first one is expected to be on February 20, 2010 Saturday at the San Jose Convention Center/Marriot. The exact time is TBA. There is a high possibility that we may not hold meetings in San Francisco this year due to lack of a venue, however, if someone is able to suggest an appropriate venue, I would appreciate it!

I must mention again, as this is a closed volunteer group, try outs are necessary! Thus, please do not order your uniform to work in until you are confirmed for the cafe and after it has been approved. For veteran maids from the previous year, please e-mail me to let me know you are still interested. Everyone needs to be reevaluated, so if you are able to attend the try out meetings again, that would be highly appreciated, but it is not entirely necessary. We are still looking for more volunteers to try out, so feel free to suggest friends that may be interested.

Thank you everyone for your patience. I will be sure to answer any questions you may have as soon as I can.

Email regarding try out dates and information have been sent out to those on the mailing list. I apologize for my lack of updates and responses this year. I hope it hasn't caused much frustration or inconveniences on your part.

Meeting dates and times for San Jose try outs are confirmed!

They will take place at the San Jose Convention Center, Marriot, at 9am in the morning. Please make it on time as we will be locating during the beginning of the meeting when most volunteers have arrived. It is also advised that you bring a notepad and pen, and wear something you feel flatters you well. The try outs last approximately 3-4 hours.

The dates are:
February 20th, Saturday
March 28th, Sunday

San Francisco try outs are still being discussed of whether or not they will happen this year, but I will do my best to provide this location for you between the time of the San Jose try outs.

As a review, our requirements are that you are at least 16 years of age, biologically female, able to provide your own approved maid uniform and FanimeCon registration. We will interview those interested, and judge upon experience, ability, and overall professional demeanor. We will train briefly in becoming knowledgeable in maid cafes, playing the role of a maid properly, speaking the proper phrases, bowing, and waitressing. It is also important that maids are comfortable sitting down and talking to patrons in conversation, as it is a significant variable in being a maid.

Thank you for all your patience, and I hope this information serves you well. Good luck everyone, and I look forward to meeting all of you at try outs! Let's do our best to put together an even better year for Fanimaid Cafe 2010!

- Junchan

EDIT: Just to add, you only need to attend ONE try out. It is not recommended to attend more than one try-out. Sorry for forgetting to include that!

Thanks Jun for a successful First meeting! :)

It was good to meet with you, Your 2nd, and briefly be introduced as the "non 萌え [moe] guy" - as well as the returning Maids from Fanime Cafe's past.

I wish all the girls the best of luck in the coming weeks til Fanime, and as Jun posted there will be another Meeting/ tryout scheduled later in March.

I'm having a Rover's meeting this weekend- so if there's anything you would like me to go over with superiors--- such as escorts, line control of the cafe and other "maintenance" please let me know. thanks!

Rovers want to make sure you're all safe while volunteering for the FaniMaid Event. :D Thanks!

Hi Jun,

Just wanted to double check if the next maid try out is still March 28th,---

Just wanted to make sure my calender is all in order.  :)

After all the try outs are held. And then after a little bit of discussion between the staff, we'll send an e-mail out to those that have been accepted.

Hello,

I emailed [email protected] yesterday about my interest :D! I hope to hear from you soon. Also will 3/28th be likely the last audition? I hope I didn't sign up too late and will be allowed to attend tryouts, since I was a maid in 2008 and would love to do it again! Thank you!  I look forward to the Maid Cafe again this year.

Also,

If Jun will not be at March 28th, then who is going to judge/supervise us? Does this decrease the chance of getting in since not everyone (Jun and Mikey?) will be there? I really hope not, because I would love to return again as a maid!  :D Thanks.

Our 2nd, Mei, and useless super thighs(Mizuki) will be there. No it doesn't decrease your chances at all. We trust Mei.

Thanks for the prompt answers :) Here's another question haha.

It was previously mentioned in the thread to wear something cute and representable of yourself. I also noticed someone said they wore something lolita-like to the tryouts.

My question is do we need to dress up as maids or in costumes to show what kinds of maids we want to be? I was planning to wear a cute top with jeans, but if otherwise stated, I will prepare myself to wear a costume or something. Thanks for the clarification!

Also, Where can one park on Sunday for tryouts?

I know it was said that you need your own form of transportation, but if anyone needs a ride or wants to carpool to the tryouts, then I am fine with that. Just message me! I know we're all anxious to go to the tryouts :) Yay!!!

If the staff needs anything, please just message me! I am eager to help in any way, regardless of being a maid or not. I really enjoyed my time as a Fanimaid in 2008, and I was definitely sad to miss it last year in 2009. I know FaniMaid will be awesome this year!

Wear whatever you want. If you want to wear a costume, wear a costume, if you want to dress casually, dress casually. Just keep in mind, your dress is representative of yourself. If you're dressing poorly, it reflects poorly on you. If you dress over the top, once more it reflects poorly on you. Think of this as an interview. When you go into an interview, you want to look professional, flattering, and that you fit the part that you're applying for. People can assess that however they want, but that's everything you need to know.

Parking is available in different areas, you can park in the convention center parking lot, which is like... 2$ an hour or something like that? Or across the street from the Hilton which is a flat fee of I think 6$. Or you can use meter parking on the street.

Hi There Again,

Sorry for the questions haha. I am sure others have them too  :)!

If we do not get a reply back from [email protected], can we still attend the tryouts? I know Jun and the staff have been busy and that's understandable. Just wanted to know if it was okay to still go! Are we meeting at Marriott Lobby? Or in front of the hotel? Thanks!

Sorry to jump in- [Jun, Mikey, 2nd Mei, and Mizuki] - but from what I could tell -

the final Maid Tryout this Sunday morning should be open to all interested.

Keep in mind minimum requirements ARE: [see first page/post]
1) Must be Female (No exceptions!)
2) Must be 16 or older by the event [with signed parental consent form]
3) Must be able to supply your own uniform
4) Must be able to attend to at least 2 meetings (with your own means of transportation)

As for me- I'm part of the Rovers staff, and here to assist the Maid cafe staff with any needs as far as line control, crowd control and to keep away any would be stalkers that may attempt to intrude your space bubbles.

I'll likely be around at the meeting to find any who might be lost or confused and show them the meeting spot and be also be the class example of what "moe" is NOT - aka I'm "non 萌え [moe] guy"

Best of luck ladies, and we'll all see you at Sunday morning's try out.

Again, I sincerely apologize for the lack of updates this year, so I hope you guys aren't distraught from all the confusion! I will keep you guys as updated as I possibly can as work progresses, so please bear with our terribly busy schedule.

Just as a reminder, we have a try-out this Sunday (March 28th, 2010) at the San Jose Convention Center, Hilton Side, Santa Clara Room at 9:00am. Please try your best to arrive on-time, and wear something comfortable and flattering! It is also recommended that you bring a notepad and pen for notes. At the try-out, you will listen to a short lecture, practice phrases and bowing, and participate in a short interview with your photo taken (Photos and information are confidential). As many of you know, I will be out of town this weekend, so the try-outs will be temporarily conducted by my second, Mei, Mizuki, and our veteran maid members.

For those who cannot attend this try-out, there has been a last minute try-out scheduled on April 10th, 9:00am at the same room.

Also, Do not purchase a maid uniform for the cafe until you are confirmed!

If you are a volunteer seeking participation, but not in the Bay Area or able to attend meetings: please contact me after I send an email regarding you guys specifically, including those who have already emailed me as I will make a specific effort to include you guys in trying-out via email.

Thank you all for your patience and participation, and I hope to meet you all very soon! Good luck, ladies (and Jerry)!

Also, if you email [email protected] and do not receive an immediate response, do not fret. You're automatically put on our mailing list and will be included on our updates. Anyone who fits the basic requirements are welcome to participate in the try-outs.

Hope that helps!

P.S. Another detail to add:

If you have already attended a try-out, please do not try out again! You're welcome to be present at the try-outs, but all volunteers must only try-out and be interviewed once. Thank you!

Hello Jun and FaniMaid Staff,

Thank you for the wonderful tryout session and interview on Sunday, March 28th! I appreciate the time and effort you all put in to making these tryouts a success. I really enjoyed my time learning about the maid cafe and talking to the girls. If I did not send you a proper thank you email, then please PM me your email address. I apologize if I could not get everyone's emails. I hope to hear from you all soon and thank you again for the wonderful experience!

Shitsure itashimasu.

I was wondering if the last minute try-out on April 10th at 9:00am is still happening.  My friend and I are interested in attending the try-out.  I've sent a couple of emails in the past week, but I haven't received a reply yet.

Thank you for your time.

for those who may or may not get lost - i know the feeling --- when it comes to meetings/interview/try out locations for the first time... Let us know if you have any worries finding the meeting spot -  allow yourself plenty of time to get there promptly and mostly awake.

Saturday April 10th, 9:00am
San Jose Convention Center
Hilton Side
2nd Floor - Santa Clara Room

On a random note---
Please make sure you have your ride/transportation in order -->  [this includes public transit fares, public parking, getting rides from friends/parental units, etc.]

I wouldnt want anyone to be left behind [especially traveling long distances ] to not have a proper way of getting back home.

Other than that best of luck to all the ladies attending this last try out! ~Ganbattene !

Yeah, definitely have a ride and know your way if you're relying on public transportation, especially for those not from the area. Big warning especially to those who have NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE from your area present. x_x

Also, tryouts for March 28th were fun and a learning experience! :D

You know like, draw in both gender crowds? Just an idea I am throwing it out there for next year. and I be the first butler to volunteer ^^b

to keep things on a positive and a private note--- i would suggest refraining from talking about the response e-mails sent out to each person who tried out.

Keep in mind that the maid cafe staff had the most potential maids apply/try out this year and I'm sure the staff had lots of deliberation to do.

Please be patient as there might be a chance that not all the response e-mails have not been sent out yet.

Otherwise again best of luck ladies.  :)

In my world it's still the weekend because I work sats and have sun/mon off. We'll be emailing you today. Please be patient as much as we'd like to be able to get all of our work done in an instant, we would. Life has been incredibly hectic for the staff recently and there's been a lot of things that have been preventing us from finishing this sooner(such as schedules between other staff members, work, school, and other such things).

I know you guys are eager and want to hear if you made it in, and you want to order your uniform asap and all that, but please be patient.

Hey guys.

I sincerely apologize that we haven't been as active with emails this year. I assure you, there is a very very very good reason as to why and we're trying our best to send out information as soon as possible. Please be patient, and I understand if any of you may be upset.

If things work out without any last-minute catastrophes, I assure you that you can expect a confirmation email tonight. (04-19-10) Only maids that are confirmed will receive an email. Those who did not make it, I apologize. There isn't enough time in the day to organize things any further, this year.

Good luck, girls.

To those who have received it, congratulations! Expect a ton of follow-up emails from me tomorrow afternoon.

Again, I sincerely apologize for the lack of updates this year. My current job is demanding of both loads of time and energy without access to a computer, let alone internet, so it's been difficult to keep up with things as quickly as I had the year before. Thanks everyone for your patience, and let us anticipate another great year of Fanimaid Cafe.

Fanimaid Cafe 2010 will always and will ONLY be female maids. No exceptions.

If you wish to start your own FanimeCon host or butler Event with male staff by all means, its just not going to have anything to do with Fanimaid Cafe. Their staff has repeatedly discussed this, and it will not move forward. Sorry, thats just the way its gonna be.

I see. Well, it seems that there are butler cafes for males? Thats not what I was thinking about though. I was thinking more on the line of boys crossdressing in maid outfits like the females do. =^-^= The butler cafes seem like they would not get a lot of business since they really don't appeal a whole lot to the whole anime scene people are looking for when they go to Fanime.

again something that was discussed original of its joking and good humored natured.

But now that Maid Cafe has an established reputation to uphold, and they have politely decline this concept of any male cross dressing as females.

Simply put, the answer is No.

There's really no reason to push this forward, really~ Stop posting in this thread or start your own thread.

Uhm, Jerry... why are you posting like you're staff of Maid Cafe or have something to do with the Cafe directly. Please don't, seriously. Even if you are correct and what not, don't speak like you're official on the subject.

Back to the main point.

Having guys dress up as Maids although humorous is a blatant no. Why would we do this? It was covered in the other thread. Why would we do anything to purposely deviate from what a Maid Cafe is, just to please a small minority. The Maid Cafe is the Maid Cafe, not a Maid Cafe+ fangirl show, nor is it a Maid Cafe+Butler Cafe, nor is it a Maid Cafe + anything else.

People need to understand, that by adding stuff, you remove from the original point of the subject. If you want a salad, because you want a salad that's healthy and fresh, then you add bacon, because some people like bacon, and grilled chicken, and dressing, and croutons, and tri tip, and all this other stuff some people may like, you no longer have that healthy fresh salad, but instead a hodge podge of things people may like. You're basically removing the original purpose, removing the original appeal, and trying to make everyone happy, which makes no one happy.

You can take pictures with your maid(s) in the photo corner when you're ready to leave.

again something that was discussed original of its joking and good humored natured.

Hmm. Well, I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong thread. I was just curious and thought it'd be appropriate to ask such a question without people getting all angry and telling me to post elsewhere. Besides the fact, I like the Fanimaid cafe and think it'll be fun to go to. And that whole salad thing. Interesting comparison lawl.

Just want to know the facts before I go, thanks! :)

It is a walk in event, however if trends from last year follow, there will be a line. The line got up to as high as 1 hour at some points of the convention so try and come early.

In addition, we are having a game show sunday at 1pm and the top three contestants will be winning a fast pass for the Maid Cafe for up to them and 3 friends(3 winners) so if you can't find the time, or want to go again, be sure to check out the concerts on saturday and sunday at 1, and hope you get chosen for our game show at 1:30 on sunday.

Great job to Mikey, Mizuki, Jun and all the maids for their hard work.

Even Momoi-san said the maid cafe was one of her favorite events at Fanime :3

To Jun, Mikey, Mizuki, Mei, and the rest of the lovely maids!

OMG Thank you for such a great year! It was really fun getting to be a maid for maid cafe, and I hope to volunteer again next year! :) I appreciate everything you all have done for the cafe and the times we all spent together! Hopefully we all see each again soon or next year~. Thanks again!

Love,
Shino

P.S. A lot of customers kept asking me why there are no butlers or men. -_- LUCKILY the posts and previous threads explaining why helped me tell them that. And here is a bonus pic with me as a customer:

Thank you Jun, Mikey, Yomi and all the other maids for a nice time again. We spent a short time in there just for a quick R&R session. I'm glad we got so many maids in our picture!! Too bad some of them turned out blurry.... :-[
And my camera doesn't have any of the MaidCafe pictures so I am waiting for my friends to upload.
