this was my 18th con ...I enjoyed this year more than the previous years.

I missed Sat and Mon because the con gives me a lot nostalgic anxiety so I was only able to go once i was calm enough to hang out.  The only event i wanted to attend was the FMV contest, which i missed, but saw the encore and loved it.

I spent the last 15 FanimeCons drunk and couldn't do it this year (did have a few pints tho for a buzz, but nothing heavy).  Given the nature of things some of us have shitty day jobs and don't typically party on weekends.  The con offers the best let yourself go experience IMO, so its easy to go from 0-100 with drinking in a matter of hours from the con starting to finish.

Drinking at Fanime actually has created the most friend fallout, last time I was at Anime Expo (2013) i made such a fool of myself that i banned myself from attending any future AX's.  I probably will retire after i hit 20ys of Fanime

In 2014 and 2015 there were no lines at Fanime.

In 2016 I heard reports of a 3 hour line, and was coming back from the airport anyway so I just stopped by Clockwork to pick up my badge.
However, they asked me if I was going for Clockwork or Fanime. Like an fool, I told them Fanime...so they gave me a Clockwork-branded badge but said I'd have to go to Fanime to pick up the program and schedule. Pure idiocy, since the point of going to Clockwork was so I wouldn't have to wait in the Fanime line to get my stuff...not to get a Clockwork badge and have to wait in the Fanime line anyway.

So due to the preposterousness of it all, I ended up taking a program and schedule anyway and they didn't stop me...but be prepared if you pick it up at CA.

Thats not true ...I've gotten everything from the clockwork reg table (2013-2014-2015-2016)...badge, schedule and program....could care less if my badge did say Fanime (besides the clockwork art is better IMO)

Yes, it is true. Maybe they told one of us the wrong thing, but I can say with 100% certainty that at CA they told me to pick up my schedule and program from Fanime.

I liked the Fanime design better last year (the clockwork one was like...a dress and mirror and only one color) but I will say that is personal preference.

Again not true...I can post a picture from last year when I got my badge showing everything.

Again, it IS true. I do not know why you are trying to tell me that what happened to me, didn't happen... and that's that they asked me if I was attending for Famine or CA, and then told me to go to Fanime to pick up my stuff. That is a true statement. I'm not denying that they may have told you otherwise, and I even specifically said "maybe they told one of us the wrong thing."

I didnt say that...I said CA does have everything.  Now if they got hit with with a large registration # I could see how they'd tell people this but since CA and Fanime are a joint con it would be very unprofessional and unorganized for them to not have the proper items for registration.

I taught myself Japanese in 1999 what helped me most is constant repetition of writing Katakana and Hiragana and pronouncing them
Also counting in Kanji ...Basic but very important

lol why would we bring drugs into something that doesn't relate with at all

Probably the reason anyone takes drugs > They make you feel good/better and can give you energy in the case if uppers. You can be assured that there are drugs all over Con. It is inescapable given the nature of the Con (and its 24h days).

No because people turned it into one and it started to get out of control (drinking included)...I've been going to them since 1999.  Why do you think glow sticks arent allowed

When did they implement that policy? I have not been to a Fanime 'Dance' for 2 or 3 years, but last I was there there was certainly people with at least electric glow sticks. I imparticulary remember the only issue with chemical glow sticks was that they could leak and cause a mess and werent allowed.

you have to be pretty naive if you think the majority of people who listen to electronic music and dance all night don't do drugs...

the no glowstick policy ....I dunno for a while now ...i seriously doubt Fanime was concerned with people spilling glow stick chemicals.

The word that must not be used likely has implications for the facility and therefore for FanimeCon, especially in the realm of insurance and liability. It has an extremely negative connotation that would likely impact FanimeCon's ability to host an event with that name, irrespective of if it actually has all the hallmarks of a standard event.

Dance events are still held across the country and have a completely different association with them. Saying you are holding or attending a dance doesn't have nearly as much as a negative connotation.

Hence, the choice of language is a specific and particular one that has importance associated with it. The words we choose are important.

Fanime has never called it one...nor will they ever (thank god)...the issue is people spreading the incorrect term around and hence you have outside people of Fanime trying to attend

Were people using that word because most of the music is techno/trance?

I think you still need to wait.

You could go to Clockwork Alchemy for badge pick-up, they historically have much shorter wait times. I'd wait to see if Linecon is back again this year before getting in line at Fanimecon.

This...ever since the monumental screw up during Fanime 2013 (6hrs line wait).  I just go there instead of the main con reg...typically no lines on Day 1

FYI:  You can pick up a badge at the double tree, and avoid any waiting in line (every single year i've picked up my badge there with no wait)

Take the free shuttle there or light-rail(about 5-6 stops from Con)

Well the word i was referring to and the word the mods changed IS related ...unfortunately along with things like glow sticks, face masks, and wearing too many beads

What word was everyone using before the mods replaced it with "dance"?

probably a 4 letter word rhyming with save...

my guess is because Fanime doesn't want to be associated with drug culture

Fun Fact that Holiday Inn hosted Fanime 99

I live on North 1st , two block away from the hotel, been here for 7yrs....There are spots on Archer St ,that is the safest.... you may be able to find spots around the holiday inn.  There is an elementary school with a huge park near by that also has plenty of safe street parking.

Do Not Park on Kerley dr at all...

DVD was there for the full Bubblegum Crisis..it was $65...BluRay only available online according to dealer, so i did not buy.  Checked around others with no luck...

Ive been going to fanime as a loner for the past 3yrs now...it is actually more enjoyable in my opinion.  I would link up with you guys but I have the Old Timer X Loner issue which makes me less reluctant to meet new people

About the water...You do know California is facing a severe drought right?
Fanime may have an obligation to provide free water. See Food and Agricultural Code (Concert and Music Festival Safety Act) sec. 11000.10. That law is aimed at big raves and music festivals, and applies to any event with over 10,000 people on state property.

Missing the point...Any public meeting center has to provide potable water by building code!  But yea the complaint about the water flow rate is what I was referring to...really who cares if it takes you 2x as long to fill your bottle, if we can reduce water demand and the sink...remember not everyone is as savvy as you about not wasting water, A high GPM flow rate can lead to more water wasted by more people.
