In 2014 and 2015 there were no lines at Fanime.
In 2016 I heard reports of a 3 hour line, and was coming back from the airport anyway so I just stopped by Clockwork to pick up my badge.
However, they asked me if I was going for Clockwork or Fanime. Like an fool, I told them Fanime...so they gave me a Clockwork-branded badge but said I'd have to go to Fanime to pick up the program and schedule. Pure idiocy, since the point of going to Clockwork was so I wouldn't have to wait in the Fanime line to get my stuff...not to get a Clockwork badge and have to wait in the Fanime line anyway.
So due to the preposterousness of it all, I ended up taking a program and schedule anyway and they didn't stop me...but be prepared if you pick it up at CA.
Thats not true ...I've gotten everything from the clockwork reg table (2013-2014-2015-2016)...badge, schedule and program....could care less if my badge did say Fanime (besides the clockwork art is better IMO)
Yes, it is true. Maybe they told one of us the wrong thing, but I can say with 100% certainty that at CA they told me to pick up my schedule and program from Fanime.
I liked the Fanime design better last year (the clockwork one was like...a dress and mirror and only one color) but I will say that is personal preference.
Again not true...I can post a picture from last year when I got my badge showing everything.
Again, it IS true. I do not know why you are trying to tell me that what happened to me, didn't happen... and that's that they asked me if I was attending for Famine or CA, and then told me to go to Fanime to pick up my stuff. That is a true statement. I'm not denying that they may have told you otherwise, and I even specifically said "maybe they told one of us the wrong thing."

lol why would we bring drugs into something that doesn't relate with at all
Probably the reason anyone takes drugs > They make you feel good/better and can give you energy in the case if uppers. You can be assured that there are drugs all over Con. It is inescapable given the nature of the Con (and its 24h days).Quote from: Abyss1 on May 17, 2017, 03:45:30 PM
No because people turned it into one and it started to get out of control (drinking included)...I've been going to them since 1999. Why do you think glow sticks arent allowed
When did they implement that policy? I have not been to a Fanime 'Dance' for 2 or 3 years, but last I was there there was certainly people with at least electric glow sticks. I imparticulary remember the only issue with chemical glow sticks was that they could leak and cause a mess and werent allowed.

The word that must not be used likely has implications for the facility and therefore for FanimeCon, especially in the realm of insurance and liability. It has an extremely negative connotation that would likely impact FanimeCon's ability to host an event with that name, irrespective of if it actually has all the hallmarks of a standard event.
Dance events are still held across the country and have a completely different association with them. Saying you are holding or attending a dance doesn't have nearly as much as a negative connotation.
Hence, the choice of language is a specific and particular one that has importance associated with it. The words we choose are important.

Were people using that word because most of the music is techno/trance?

I think you still need to wait.
You could go to Clockwork Alchemy for badge pick-up, they historically have much shorter wait times. I'd wait to see if Linecon is back again this year before getting in line at Fanimecon.

What word was everyone using before the mods replaced it with "dance"?

See Food and Agricultural Code (Concert and Music Festival Safety Act) sec. 11000.10. That law is aimed at big raves and music festivals, and applies to any event with over 10,000 people on state property.
About the water...You do know California is facing a severe drought right?
