I just found about this on saturday, since I was up there with Ultramangaia and some other people. I'm willing to go to this since it will also have a cosplay contest and to celebrate the arrival of fall. Here are the dates:

The Japantown Merchants Association will present two full days of exciting events marking the arrival of Fall. Events include:
* taiko drumming
* traditional Japanese festival dancing
* Hawaiian dancing
* Bonsai display
* soba noodle eating contest
* anime movies & costume competition
* children's karaoke contest
* kiku ningyo (chrysanthemum dolls)
* food
Japan Video is sponsoring the cosplay contest, so if you guys are going to participate on it, contact them directly. I hope to see you guys there.

Its just that the 38/38L is pretty crowded and in a Haruhi costume that might be weird.... Plus the homeless people as too many questions :-\

BTW, the trick to catch the 38 and get a seat in the process, get off at montgomery bart station and catch it from there. Since, it's just coming from the transbay terminal, it's usually empty and getting a seat before it gets hella crowded is nice. :3

someone posted on the thread over at the cosplay.com forums that you're able to sign up the day of (apparently they talked to the organizers and they said it was ok). I might end up doing that since I don't know when I'll be able to make it over to Japantown in the next two weeks (busy finishing up stuff for y-con).

Not totally experienced in it but Aki Matsuri is a festival taken at San Fransico and in San Jose but the dates I think are different, but the one for this thread is the one at SF. The cosplay event is Sunday, Oct. 4th and you have to pre-register by Sept. 20th if you want to enter he contest. Hope that helped~

I posted this event to my site a while ago and was trying to find out details about the cosplay contest/cosplay show, so I spoke to Japan Video today (was there for the Tokikake screening). They are apparently still planning details, but it looks like they have about 30 participants so far and are looking for more! They extended the registration to September 30th, and for convenience (since some of you might not live near enough to justify making the trip just to register) you can register for the event online at BayAnime.com (http://bayanime.com)!

I believe you can enter in groups. My cosplay group registered today, and the guy told us we can do a skit if we'd like. Three choices of stage performance, basically: Walk-On, Skit, or Song.

(I wore Sairin at Cherry Blossom, wore Ukitake at the Treasure Island picnic, and Abel actually has a little more work to go before I'm entering a contest--so it had to be Kenshin this time.)

well theres restrooms inside the shopping mall, but they're not very big, and with the amount of people that might be there it could get crowded pretty quick. I would suggest coming already in costume if you're able to.

LoveFest is on saturday - Aki Matsuri is taking place both on saturday and sunday. By the looks of what everyone else has posted, a majority of the people here are going on sunday (cosplay show is on sunday too)
