Hey everybody,
A couple friends and I are going to go to this con and we're all broke college students. I was wondering if there is any hotels near the convention center that are fairly reasonable...again I state, we're poor.
Thanks
The one thing you have to state is, just how poor are you? How much can you afford to spend on a room... How many people can you scrape together to fit into one room?
Well I can probably get four people (maybe) and I would like the cost to be below $100
Thanks
Try rooming around with some other people on these here boards, if you can't manage to get more people.
A small tip from someone who knows; Bribe them with food.
But you can only get so many people in a room though. I mean I don't think they list more than like six people.
You can still stay at either the hilton or the marriott. Here, do the math:
One night in a room: 99 bucks. Add tax, maybe it's about 115
115/4 people= ~ 29 dollars a night.
Stay Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Total comes to 87 dollars a head for three nights.
You can do it. ^_^

You've gotta be careful with that too.. Isn't the 99/night for only 1 ~ 2 people for the room? They'd have to be sneaking in 2 people and the hotel will only offer 2 card keys because the max that you're saying is only 2...

TWO BEDDED Available May 24-29
$99.00 Single - 1 Person
$99.00 Double - 2 Persons
$109.00 Triple - 3 Persons
$119.00 Quad - 4 Persons
Though.. personally I do understand the raise in fees per person but I still find it a little pointless. >.<; It's like charging someone less for a handmade costume because you used 'less' fabric on the dress or something.
The best way to cut down on the cost is to find some people to room with, but be wary of people that sneak additional friends in to cut down on the cost. Hotels get pretty mad about it when people do it.
Sorry.. my random 2 cents there.
I don't think the Marriott does price changes like that...
Ok, 120 a night. Still that's only 30 a head for three nights. 90 total. Even with taxes it'll end up around 100 for three nights. They could all just do two nights too.
There's really also nothing wrong with having more than 4 people in the room. Just be quiet and don't attract attention. I've asked for more than 4 keys before... even when I've only had 3 people in a room. Sometimes you just want to leave an extra key in the room in case you lose yours. Note: I'm not actually suggesting overfilling a room. I'm just presenting it as an option. Don't blame me if you get caught or you can't figure out the sleeping arrangements.
First of all it won't let me reserve anything more than 4 people. Second We're planning on going all four days. So this does complicate things some.
What I was saying is that you could reserve for four and sneak more sleepers in. Also, if you stay for four days, you really don't need to get a room for more than three. Since the last day is generally a shorter, crappier day, you will likely end up leaving right after. In any case, you can leave your bags at the bell stand at a hotel. The three days would be Friday-Saturday, Saturday-Sunday, and Sunday-Monday. And since you're college students, you don't want to get four days because you'll either pay for a day you won't fully use, or you'll miss a whole day of class.

There are some things going on thursday (I think, there was last year) for pre-reg'ed people. So keep that in mind when you're choosing days..
And the miss the whole day thing, if you come friday morning, eh, oh well.. (if you have class on friday, that is), unless by some miracle you also have friday off.. If you do, then ucd sucks because we only get monday off so those of us who get here early miss more class then we'd care to... >.>
Ah yeah... I forgot about Thursday. Maybe it's just because I could just drive an hour and half there and then an hour and a half back if I wanted to. I enjoy driving as long as it isn't four separate days in a row for that length.
Well its just so happens fanime falls on my break between spring semester and summer semester so I'll have all 4 days off
More stuff from previous experience.
People can sleep anywhere in the room.
1) The spaces between the two beds.
2) The spaces between the wall and the beds.
3) The feet of the bed.
4) The closet.
5) The bathtub (Alot comfier than it sounds)
6) You can easily fit 3 people per bed if necessary...
The closet would probably be pretty cool, if you could get something to put under you (like a spare blanket). After all, you'll have your own space and won't be getting walked over every two minutes like everyone else...

That's where I stayed for the last night at last years convention. It's kinda nice, and as an added bonus, if you and someone are able to sleep on your sides, then you can easily fit 2 people in there. ^^
Sounds good. I'm gonna try to wrangle up 6 people if possible. Any tips on not getting found out? Would it be best to get two double beds I suppose? If we were to get there on the first day of the convention and checked out on the last day we could save on an entire day right?
Thanks
Tip 1: Shut up. No parties.
(insert more common sense here)
For a four day convention, you generally only stay for 3 hotel days. It is assumed that you'll just leave your bags at the hotel for a few hours before check-in.
We kind of seriously overcrowded some rooms last year. (One room got to maybe 8 people for a one-bed). But we'd paid for four rooms, just everyone chose to congregate to only two of them.
The hotel didn't seem to care too much and offered roll-away beds. Doubt that will always be the case, though.
Two ways to get them to not freak out as much:
1. Be quiet and respectful. You're putting the comfort of a lot of people who are following the rules at risk, especially with the noise. Angry people will make an angry hotel staff.
2. Keep the place clean. Seriously...there is no reason to trash a room. This means personal belongings being kept clean and in order.
3. This is just a personal thought, but I would refrain from asking for extra things like a lot of towels or blankets. Bring them with you if you can.
The less they have to act like they are accomodating more people, the less they may care about it.
Where can i get cheap hotel rates for rooms at fanime-con for year 2007 con?. does anyone know? where trying to shedule it for our schools anime club for a stay there....
Quote from: "PassingTheBuck"Quote from: "Tony"This is not official word. Only Craige's word matters. His is the voice of GOD. ...in terms of hotels.
Hotel prices will probably be the same, or close to, 2006 prices. We will have the hotel reservation site ready to go within the next three months, if not sooner...
Thanks Tony... LOL!!!
Okay, the rates next year will be going up and down, counting on what you are looking for...
Double/Double rooms will be going up at the Hilton and Marriott. Hilton will now start at $109 for a double/double, doesn't matter if it is for one or four bodies, the same price. Marriott will be doing the same pricing, only they will be starting at $119 per room.
King rooms for both hotels will be decreasing to $85 per night.
Crowne and St Claire prices have not been agreed upon yet, but we are working on it.
Craige...
You didn't hear any of this from me =D!
I'm pretty sure it's subject to change... As far as I'm concerned, it seems like the upper management staff is still straightening out the stuff for next year's Fanime.
hmm...you could do this since the con is months away...
1) get a part time job
2)make sure you save the money
3)???????
4)Profit!
Honestly, its amazing how many people you can fit in 1 room. When I went to JTAF4 (few days ago), we booked 1 room for 3 nights and it was $100 a person and we had 7 people in the room. Even if you bring too many people, hotels a lot of times don't ask because they don't really know because a lot of people are bringing like 2-3 vehicles, but they all have different rooms. Just keep things nice and not too messy, and you'll be fine. Basically, just don't look like your hiding something. 8)
Would it be alright if you roomed with two middle-schoolers, two sophomores and possibly one junior? We promise we won't try anything funny. And we've got money. But.. not a lot.. >>;;
I wouldn't see anything wrong with that then. Well...just as long as you know them and trust them. The hotel...really just do research. If you want cheap, it'd look around San Jose, but you if want convenience and pay a little extra each day, I'd book for the at the Convention hotels.
If they agree, we could work that out. xP
It was already hard enough for a 1 bedroom and trying to book 7 people in. More than likely you guys will be okay, have fun fighting for the bed though! 8)
LOL. I can take the floor. [:
No...no...you gotta fight for the closet and the bathroom ^.^
I will fight for the closet then! It's dark. And has stuff in it.
I know I'll be fighting for my right to party--I mean, sleep in the tub.
Actually, it'll be nice this year since I think we'll only be sharing our room between four or five people. Plenty of room compared with years past!
Better than mine, I'd be looking between 7-9 people.... last time I barely had room to walk on.... :?
We had 12 in our room last year. Let's just say, we didn't have room to do anything, at all.
 I would've gotten 2 rooms then. Forget that! There's no way I'd be able to sleep.
or fix all problems by staying at a friends' house down the street. lmfao! Campout in the backyard! wooT! actually, i've done that at '05....I'll never do that again. lol
Didn't some people just sleep in the halls last time? XD I heard rumors.

ah, you forgot the seemingly useless part of the room like a mini hallway! we had two eople sleeping there, and the area in front of the bathroom. Someone even slept under the desk/table thing.
I slept between the feet of the bed and the desk -- that was the only unoccupied place my airbed could fit.
I only wish some of our people had been smart enough to bring airbeds. We basicly just had the staff bring extra blankets up while everyone was away.
I slept with my head under a desk. man, that was the best night I ever slept.....XP The other time I had to room with my parents instead of my room then the last night I didn't sleep....

I've NEVER seen 3 men share a bed before, that only works with women. It's always funny watching 2 guys share a bed at a con. They sleep on the far edges as if they're going to fall off at any moment LMAO.
There's ALWAYS something in the hotel contract that says, "You CANNOT pack 'guests' into your hotel room like a sardine can". Technically it is
NOT okay to have more then 4 to a room.
Yes I know we have all been guilty of that before. I assume you've already made up your mind and plan on having more then 4 to a room so here's some advice. Keep your room:
1) CLEAN - this line cannot be repeated enough
2) give the cleaning lady a tip everyday. A happy hotel staffer is less likely to "rat" on you. If you have that many people in your room it's not going to hurt if everybody pitches in $1 a day. Make this clear with your friends ahead of time that this is "the deal" if they want to room with you.
