Really excited for the Black and White Ball! The classes you offer each year are great as well. I remember one year (maybe 2 years ago?) there were beginner and intermediate classes offered. Will that happen this year? Since I already know the basics for several of the styles offered, I would really love to learn some more advanced moves/techniques. Perhaps private lessons would be a good option? Hopefully you will still offer those this year because I'd be really interested in taking them :)
Thanks for always putting on a great event!

I want to go as Sakura, but I'm having trouble finding a shirt that looks like hers. Any ideas on where to look? (Either her normal blue/black striped shirt or any other outfit she wears, for example this white striped shirt: http://31.media.tumblr.com/e47c1a785c7cb44813073b2f116049c4/tumblr_mwkrxnKjiU1ri2kwbo1_500.png) Thanks!

Love this anime and I really hope more cosplayers can join so I can take pictures. If there are not a lot of people that can make it I might need to pass. I really hope an Uryu can make it.

My favorite character is Minene! And if all goes well, I will be cosplaying her this year :)
If I have some free time during this gathering, I'd really like to join!

Registration / Badge Question
March 11, 2014, 03:37:47 PM
Hi, I missed buying the badge online before the first price jump (really wish there was a reminder on Facebook or the website).
Anyways, if I buy it now will I still get the nice card (not paper) type badge?

If you can't make it to the dance lessions or can't see some vids on line... there is always the option of waching other people dance, or copying their moves.

If you don't know the dance and start to make some random movements causing a scene or dissrupting others then I say don't do it. Chances are dance staff will ask you to leave the dance floor. Like that one time some one dude wanted to brake dance durring a waltz..totaly not cool.

But as long as your trying to dance the right kind of dance you'll have no problems.

These tutorials are very helpful. I'd highly recommend watching one or two:) http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLED096DA366F32482&feature=plcp

You definitely do not need to be the best dancer. If you don't know a specific dance, you can move along to the song or use other dancers as a reference. One time I asked someone to dance during an East Coast Swing song, but he didn't know the steps so we just stepped side to side to the beat of the music (basically we threw out the rock-step). He even improvised by throwing some turns in *^^*. It was honestly one of the funnest dances I had during the night. So just have fun and as long as you don't disturb the other people on the dance floor, you should be fine. As an example, if you want to dance in one stationary spot during a waltz (or any dance that travels), you should move to the center of the floor so you don't block the traveling dancers. For more specific rules check out the official FAQ: http://www.fanime.com/events-and-exhibits/events/black-white-ball/black-white-ball-faq

Staff & Volunteers / Re: Community Service Hours?

I assume documents should be signed by heads of vols or the department you worked. But yeah, get the school's approval first that vol-ing at Fanime is acceptable.

I'm curious on what your community service report will be about.

That's what I was thinking too... And yeah, I'll make sure to ask my school in advance.
As for a report, I actually don't need to write one. My school only requires a certain number of hours.

I'm not sure about school approved volunteering because mine didn't do that. But I do have a friend who volunteered for registration two years in a row and added it to their resume as volunteer work and ended up with a nice job in customer service because of it. Good luck!

Thanks! Even if it's not school approved, I'll probably still volunteer anyway.

Thank you!! So if my school approves and I bring my school's time sheet (documents hours volunteered, where you did it, etc), I'll be able to get someone to sign it?

Thanks for your opinion! Fanime definitely would not be one of the more common forms of community service like volunteering at a library, city parks, etc... but it's volunteering nonetheless and it doesn't hurt to ask!
I'll wait to hear from a current staff member officially, but i do appreciate your response :)

Staff & Volunteers / Community Service Hours?
April 22, 2013, 08:56:34 PM
Hi, I'm a high school student and I need to get community service hours for volunteering. Would I be able to earn community service hours/get someone to sign my community service time sheet if I volunteer during Fanime? Thanks in advance!

I would like to attend the San Jose try out, but I don't know if I can get there on time. I will be taking the SAT on March 9th and it will end around 1:00 PM. It would probably take 30 minutes to get to the try-out location. Can I still try-out?

Thanks for the quick response!
Would participating in another event be an acceptable excuse to (depending on the start time of the meeting) leave early/come late?

I'm very interested in trying out ^^
Do you have an approximate time the mandatory Friday meeting will occur and how long it will last?
There might be a schedule conflict so I'm trying to figure out if I'd be able to attend or not...
Thanks in advance!
