Big Event Showcase / Re: B&W Ball Heel Caps
April 22, 2018, 12:12:59 AM
Heel caps are allowed provided the shoes are compliant with the height requirement.  The heel rule is there so that people don't get slashed inadvertently on the dance floor or damage the dance floor.  I saw that there were heel caps were provided last year by staff to attendees, so without a specific embargo mentioned in the dress code, I'd imagine that they'd be allowed this year if you appeared with your shoes so treated :).

Yes, it is.  2018 is unsticky at the moment and I'm trying to address that ;).  Bear with us.

We always forget to mention it in the main post, but if you know the dance style that would best suit the music, please mention that too since it does add weight to whether we decide to include it in the playlist.

Super awkward if you didn't ;).

PATCH GIVEAWAY! In honor of the tenth anniversary of the Black & White Ball we are giving away 2016 velcro patches! And yes, we are shamelessly plugging various events and programs this way!

Here's what the patch looks like:

FIRST GIVEAWAY! On Friday at 4PM @ Stage Zero, the Black & White Ball will be putting on the Infinite Dance Challenge! Want to see various Black & White Ball staff members perform all sorts of varied and interesting dance games so that audience members can win secret prizes? This is your jam!

SECOND PATCH GIVEAWAY! On Saturday at 9AM (yeah, we know it's early) Black & White Ball staff will be in attendance for the "Shall We Dance?" panel in Panel Room 3 put on by first time attendee Trickssi! What's the panel about? In Trickssi's words -

"The panel "Shall We Dance" will cover the 1996 film of the same name, the manga "Welcome to the Ballroom," the game "Princess Debut," what pro ballroom is like behind the scenes, what social dance is like, and the start of some etiquette and tips, if there's time."

Hey, sounds like our kind of panel! (^_-)

THIRD PATCH GIVEAWAY! The Infinite Dance Challenge is not the only time that the Black & White Ball will be at Stage Zero! We will also be handing out patches during the Prop Challenges on Saturday at 4pm and Sunday at 3pm! The Prop Challenges are smaller scale versions of the Infinite Dance Challenge where the staff will dance with various props and have silly fun in the process!
And we're still not done with Stage Zero! We will be also performing straight dance demos at 11am on both Saturday and Sunday! It's less silly than the Challenges, but still just as fun! No patches will be given out during the 11am performances.

Stay tuned for our last giveaway!

Season 1 or Season 2 of Produce 101?

Thanks for the suggestion!  Based on the size of the dance floor and the layout of Parkside in general it would be problematic to have a "Available to Dance" row of chairs against a wall that would be visible to all parts of the room and not cause a traffic issue.  Similarly, having a row of chairs near the edge of the floor would also disrupt traffic flow.  Based on my observation of previous years, people who really want to dance will usually stick around on or close to the dance floor anyways.  We will have over 40 staff available to dance with at the Ball, so look for teal rosettes and armbands!

The schedule should be released any day now...we just finished hashing it out this past weekend :).

I am going to request that this thread be locked because the 2016 thread is up and active.  If we haven't answered your question, please repost it to the 2016 Dress code thread.  Thank you!

Late response:  You are free to post multiple song requests, but to save us time reviewing them point to a youtube link or similar.  Thank you!

@le_momo - Yes, but please don't attempt conga lines - we will cheerfully ask you to take a partner :).

We are officially not taking any more requests for the 2015 playlist but feel free to keep sending them in.  This year's playlist has by far the most requests that I've ever seen in the six years that I have been working the Ball.  Thank you and we will see you all very soon!

@Olivine - wearing a mask is fine, though if you plan to dance and it obstructs your vision we recommend that you don't wear it so as to reduce the likelihood of running into people.  It will be a fairly crowded floor.

@simbasuga - If the sleeve length is similar to the picture here then you should be okay.

I know for a fact that "Shut Up and Dance" has already been suggested and endorsed by staff :P.

Nope, wear whatever colors you like!  Just follow the dress code posted above about what to wear and you should be fine.
