Hi there everyone! :)

Cosplay chess is an immersive, full scale chess game in which the pieces have come to life and are fighting for their team! It is an exciting new way to enjoy a classic, time honored game. As we are a performance, sign ups are required before the convention starts. No need to know anything about chess to participate, just be sure to keep an open mind and be ready to have fun!

Chess Pieces
Chess pieces are the bread of our show! They compromise a majority of our members and play as rook, knight, or pawn on the board. Some of them may have speaking parts, however we will ask first if you are comfortable with it. Characters are paired in the most hilarious of ways for battle!

Signups for chess pieces will open on November 1st, and there is no audition required! Characters are granted on a first come first serve basis, and once we are full we accept reserve characters to fill last minute drop outs. We accept all fandoms and cosplays, however we ask that they be a published character (NPC characters are ok). All pieces must write a short, 2 sentence description of their character to be used when we introduce each piece. Please have in your description the following: The first sentence should be a vague introduction of your character, followed by a second sentence containing your characters name, and what fandom they're from. (see examples below)

"The hero of the video game of death, he's the beater who wears all black! It's Kirito from Sword Art Online!"

Heels are ok so long as they are thick, but stilletos are not allowed as they have the potential to ruin our board.

Chessmasters are the butter of our show! They lead their teams into battle with wit, charm, and stage presence. They have prominent speaking roles and are required to attend at least 2 online rehearsals. We use Discord for all online rehearsals and communication.

Sign ups for chessmasters will open on November 1st and close March 31st. Auditions will be held the week of April 1st to April 14th, and do not require you to be in cosplay. Our chessmasters will be announced on April 16th.

There is a mandatory rehearsal on the Friday of Fanime at 9pm, so please build it into your schedule. This is your time to meet everyone face to face, as well as the chess pieces you will fight so you can create a short, simple fight choreography. If for any reason you cannot attend the meeting, please email us so that we can discuss it.

The USA men's soccer team failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Those guys disrespected the American flag more than Hetalia cosplayers who wear the flag as a cape. Downright embarassing...

Hey guys! So I’m planning on hosting a Kindergarten panel for this upcoming Fanime. For those unfamiliar with Kindergarten, I’m not just talking about the grade you’re in when you’re like five or six. It’s a 8 bit choose your path style game about a class of murderous Kindergarteners, their “well endowed” teacher, a creepy janitor, and a plot with the principal that could lead to the secret of the disappearance of a fellow classmate.
As you can tell it’s very interesting. I don’t really feel like Kindergarteners would do a Q&A, but I did want to do some kind of cosplay panel for this. So, lo and behold, the Kindergarten Games Panel! I don’t require you to be the best at acting or improv for this, but at least be able to stay in character. And of course, while the game does have some mature themes, we’re going to keep this panel all ages.

Audition Rules:
1. I’m not putting an age limit on but at least be somewhat mature enough to follow instructions and learn rules to the games we’re doing quickly. We will have some rehearsals just to practice being in character but nothing too big.
2. Please do the audition with at least one part of your cosplay on (shirt, wig, makeup, etc).
3. That’s basically it, have fun!

Out of Character Questions:
1. Name? Age?
2. Who are you trying out for?
3. Email your audition file or YouTube link (whichever you do) to by the deadline (Deadline tbd).
4. Why do you want to do this panel? Why should I choose you?

In Character Questions:
1. Name? Age?
2. What is your favorite part of school? (Note, if you’re an adult character, answer what your favorite part of your job is)
3. What do you think of the new kid (player)? (If you’re auditioning for the new kid you don’t have to answer this)
4. Who’s your best friend? (Adults don’t have to answer this question)

Taken Characters:
Buggs (TrashdomCosplay)

Hello Everyone. This is my first time posting on here and I had something that has been bothering me for the last few months. I hope that this can open up a discussion to fix the problem for next years events.

At one particular 18+ event this year, hentai night, we got all 3 strikes in less than 30 minutes of each other and all of the events concerning those viewings were canceled immediately. Of course the strike from 1 room counts for all rooms for some reason. So everyone was pretty angry and was constantly furious that they had been punished for one - three individual violations. Of course the perpetrators ran and we all got the consequences instead. I don't think a group punish works with adults here. It may work in the military, but there is a reason it works there. The individual get the ever living snot knocked out of him and that is their 'peer pressure' to shape up. But since we cannot do that, we don't get that option to correct the mistakes of those individuals. If however Fanime is willing to offer some bats and whips up to give said punishment, just let me know (I'm just kidding, I would never do that).

So as a constructive criticism here. I have some suggestions to help fix the problem for next time. And we can all go back to cheering for the most ridiculous scenes found at Fanime.

1) Confiscate our phones at the door. It's super simple. Have a coat check / locker system to place our phones in and we won't be tempted to look at them while we watch. Not sure what that would entail, but we have up to 10 staff in the room when the event is going one and their job is to look out for these guys. Dave Shapell does it for 3,000 people. I think we can do it for 300 people per room.

2) No matter what, constantly tell those entering the event that there phones should be off and in their pocket. It's very easy here too. Have them turn off their phone in front of the staff and then proceed to enter the room. This not only ensures the device is off and not distracting to the guests, but the staffer can also add 'Do you agree not to have your phone on? If you do you will be punished'. Done

3) Punish the individual with a 1 strike deal. Pause the video, turn on the lights. Pull the guy to the side to get his badge info and black list him (or kick him out for the night for his first offense). It's simple. If his phone is on, guilty. You have already told everyone to turn off their phones coming in. If it's on, no excuse. Anyone now caught with their phone on gets punished, the crowd ACTUALLY sees this punishment and now knows not to let it happen to them.

These suggestions would be much better than the angry mob we got last year. Please take the time to catch the trouble makers this time so we can all enjoy what we paid to see.

Thank you so much for your time.

This looks great already! Maybe a section about being wary of scams or something along those lines, what companies to avoid and how to protect yourself and your work? I'd love to attend this panel! Can't wait to see it~

I'm not sure if they do conventions, but I would love to see Tasty Peach Studios or Sugar Bunny Shop in the dealer's hall! As well as other brands like that selling cute DIFFERENT plush, lanyards, and t-shirts. As much as I love the usual plush, it's nice to see variety in the style and subjects.

Unfortunately, Tasty Peach hasn't returned to our Dealer's Hall since 2015. Have you checked out our Artist Alley? The custom types of merchandise created by independent artists are usually found in there rather than Dealer's...

I was part of a self-publishing group that spoke at Fanime 2017 about, well, self-publishing.  We've been moving forward, speaking elsewhere, developing a written guide, and more.  So I'd like to see what folks would like to have the crew talk about in 2018!  A few thoughts:

PUBLISHING DETAILS - Forget writing or what software, the hard details on publishing, formatting, distribution.
MARKETING - All the marketing and promotional tricks and techniques people can try.
COVER ART - This is a CONSTANT area of discussion and has been big at various incarnations of this panel, so why not a whole presentation on it.
WRITING TECHNIQUES - Writing that novel on TIME and WELL.
AUTHOR PLATFORMS - Setting up websites, mailing lists, and more.

So, self-pub enthusiasts and hopefuls, what do you want to see?
