Just to follow the previous post.

Harassment will also not be tolerated at the Black and White Ball.  If you feel you are being harassed by either an attendee, or a staff member, please find someone wearing a radio to report it immediately so that it can be handled in a professional manner.

We want you to enjoy your experience at the Black and White Ball and FanimeCon.

Nina Star 9,

You are correct.  The reason we do not do the Viennese Waltz is because of its difficulty, its potential for attendees to get hurt (the dance floor gets crowded), and just managing crowd control.  Just to let you know that we have discussed this in the past, and just could not come up with a workable solution.

To everyone else,

Thank you for your suggestions.  Please know that the staff of the Black and White Ball will listen to each suggestion and then determine if it is appropriate for the Ball.

Octorok,

There is always room at the dance lessons.  While some tend to be a bit more popular than others, we always have room for more people to attend.

Also the lessons on Friday tend not to be as crowded as the lessons on Sunday.

Big Event Showcase / Re: Black and white ball dress?
February 22, 2013, 09:55:07 PM
And now for the official response.

As long as you follow the dress code requirements, which have just been posted in another thread here http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,18047.0.html it does not have to be black and white.

Black and white is just the name of the dance to give it that special feel.

Echoshadow,

Thank you for your recommendations.  The staff of the Black and White Ball listens to all submissions and makes the final determination of whether to include them in the final playlist.

Just to let you know it is never an easy process and a song is always left on the cutting room floor.

General Convention Discussion / Re: Musicians at Fanime
February 02, 2013, 05:47:08 PM
We always love music to be played at Fanime.  But please remember because of the renovation and expansion that is going on at the Convention Center, that the hallways will not be as big as they were last year.

aetherltd,

Thank you for your request.  The staff of the Black and White Ball will listen, and make the final judgement on including it on the final playlist.

We do appreciate all suggestions for music requests.  Putting together that massive playlist is not exactly an easy, or stress free, task.

Remember we do have the standard Ball type dances such as Fox Trot, Swing, Waltz, and a few more.

Thank you for your ideas.

Also you would need a lot of open park space, which is really limited around the Convention Center.

Also no guarantee that the new addition will be done in time for next years Con.  I know it will be ready for 2014.

@Stinasaur - Which innocent staffer are you again?  I forget at times.  Since I have been doing this for awhile, not my first rodeo I will quickly go over a bit of what you were talking about.

Heel size -- that is something to think about.  But in the end that would cost money, I don't know how much and with our video projection screen situation in flux it will take some long and hard thinking about it.  I thought the thing about on the carpet was communicated?  If not we will work on any communication issues next year.  Plank of wood : money and also could be stolen or misplaced.  Not saying it is a bad idea.

Misc. -- When I was at the front with Rebecca, I stood at one side and just looked at shoes.  The Rover in front looked at the rest of the outfit and another checked badges most of the time.  If I felt we had a problem I directed the people off to the side to talk to either Rebecca or one of the Rovers.  After we switched I do not know how the people at the front handled it.  I basically left it up to them.  The Rovers are there to back you up, if you do not feel comfortable explaining to someone why their attire is inappropriate or they become combative you can always get a Rover to explain to them and they can escalate the issue if they need too.  If you come back, and are at the door, in the future my recommendation would be to have someone off to the side to handle problems.  So that the line can keep moving and not block anything.  Not a fan of the stamp zone, it is something that I might have mentioned years ago, but the logistics would be a nightmare, and also if people left the room they went to the lobby to hang out for a bit.  We did not have any room capacity issues like previous years.

Was there no link to Google maps to the location on the website?  I know we said it was on the backside of the museum, and we did try to have a balloon trail; what survived of it anyway.

If we do have it there again at least the people who went to the Ball will know where it is, and we will try to make it easier to find some how.  Maybe a small map in the program guide.

Turning 18 next year which means being able to attend the 18+ panels. (awwww yeahhhhh) :P

Just don't forget your government issued photo id.

In the future, if you feel you see a dress code violation you can always ask a Rover to check it out for you.  It is at times hard to see specific things with so many people in the room at once.

Hotel Name : Sainte Claire
Would you book next year: YES!
Pros: No elevator drama, only 6 floors tall so easy to take the stairs until Sunday when legs are dead, nice rooms and beds.
Cons: The hallways look like they come from a horror movie from the Shining, breakfast can be slow even for fruit, a problem with my shower that is not the Con's fault but they need to fix in my room specifically.
Special notes: This is a historic hotel, but it is a nice place to stay and as a staffer I would stay there again.

In answer to your question about the bingo.  Yes you will need ID for that as well.

I believe I can attempt to partially answer the part about the more adult rooms.  Since I have been to one or two over the years  ;).

Government issued photo id, with a birthday, is what you will need. Whether that is a drivers license, passport, a general id card from the DMV (I had one when I was 8 because I did a lot of flying).  If you do not have something that has a photo of you, and your birthday on it; it will be really difficult if not impossible to get in.

Thank you for all your suggestions.  While they are too late for this year, we will listen to all requests and see if they will fit for 2013.  The staff listens to all of them, and we have the final say if they will be included on the playlist.

Thank you,
Kevin
