Someone posts a character's name. The next person who posts a character has to begin with the last letter.

Anyone know what the hell is going on in downtown San Jose right now? There's road blocks EVERYWHERE and you can't get into the down town area. I had to show proof I lived downtown to a cop just to turn to try to enter Taylor. Anyone know anything?

Freaked out because School ID's aren't accepted at Fanime?
Worried about having no passport, driver's license or other government issued ID?
Scared that you won't be about to get a badge for Con now?

Fear not!

If you are a California resident and you have about $23 (not to bribe the registration staff), then you can apply for an ID card - regardless of your age!

Because of the concern about the ID issue at Fanime, I have compiled some info on getting an ID card for picking up your badge at fanime.

This was pulled from the CA DMV Website
QuoteWho May Get an ID Card

When you don't have a driver's license, you need to get an official ID card to prove who you are. Anyone of any age may apply for an ID card: children, seniors, and nondrivers. The first thing to do is to make an appointment at your local DMV office. Online service isn't available.

You'll also need an original DL 44C form. If you would like to do this before your appointment, visit your local DMV or call (800) 777-0133 to have one mailed. You can always fill it out during your appointment, though.
Your Appointment Day

When you go to the local DMV on your appointment day, be prepared to do the following:

    * Fill out an application form (DL 44C).

    * Have your thumbprint taken.

    * Have your picture taken.

    * Provide your Social Security number.

    * Show proof of your birth date and legal presence.

    * Pay your fee with check, cash, or debit card (at some DMVs). No credit cards.

Fees

Your fee, paid during your appointment, will be:

    * $23 application fee for most applicants.

    * Free, for those 62 years of age or older.

    * Free, for those who must give up a driver license due to a medical condition.

    * A $7 reduced-fee ID card is available for low-income residents.

It takes about 60 days to receive your new California ID card in the mail; meanwhile, hang onto the receipt. If it's been that long and you didn't get it, call (800) 777-0133 for help.

While writing this, there are only 85 days before Fanime. It takes about 60 days to process the ID card, so if you want to make sure you have the ID card before fanime, You must complete this process by March 31st!~

Staff & Volunteers / Want to join IT?
January 20, 2008, 07:45:15 AM
Yes, I know I'm not the head of IT and I'm not even associated with the department, but I'm the one that keeps being blamed for anything not on the site, I figure I'd throw this out!

Since out of the 3 members of IT, 2 of them just quit, and it's right in the middle of when we need them most... IT NEEDS PEOPLE!

So if you know how a server works, know how to code, or know anything about the back end of websites, JOIN IT! They need it. Please? Do it for me...

:P

If you'd like more info, or you'd like to join, email [email protected] or myself ([email protected]) or post here. Now lets hope scott doesn't kill me for posting this..

Hi all, there's been much confusing over the staff meetings so I figure I'd post it here since most of you don't read the news on the front page...

General staff meetings is a way for you to check out how fanime works and what you'll need to know as a staff. It's also a way to stay informed about everything involving fanime - from where the dealers will be located this year, to rovers new name. Even if you do not know where you want to staff for Fanime, please come! We encourage those that do not know which department they want to go in to to come. The department heads will normally bring up the need for staff in their department and if you're new and department-less, they will track you down and fight the other department heads for you. :P

General Staff Meetings start at 3 pm and are either on a Saturday or a Sunday - depending on the meeting. It is advised you  not come too early or too late since coming in during the meeting while people are talking draws attention away from what is suppose to be getting done. Be prepared you might have to sit on the floor or stand since most of the table space is usurped early. Bring your friends if they want to go with you or they want to staff too. It's a great place to meet new people and since it's early in the day, you can go out to dinner with them! :P

Each location is different so make sure you write down when the staff meeting is and where it is that day.

The next meeting will be:

Sunday 5/4/08 - Civic Auditorium (The Civic Auditorium is located directly across the street from the San Jose Convention Center)

Saturday 5/10/08 - Parkside Hall  - San Jose Convention Center - Meeting Room B - 2nd Floor

Thanks and hope to see you there!

General Convention Discussion / Get Fanime on Comcast!
December 06, 2007, 08:11:28 PM
So a very bored Karen is scrolling though Comcast's On Demand Section today and comes across a section titled, "The Cutting Edge." In this section has things that they believe people like "us" would watch. G4, Adult Swim, "Something weird", stupid videos and so on. They have a section specifically called, "Anime Selects" where you can watch Anime and such. Then they have a category of "Anime Expo".

At first, I didn't believe it, but alas, IT WAS.

The affiliations gets confusing, but here it goes. Comcasts has On Demand -> On Demand has Select On Demand -> Select On Demand has Anime Select -> Anime Select shows these shows that are recorded by Anime TV -> Anime TV is owned by Bang! Zoom!.... And so on...

Back to my point!

I say we get Fanime on Comcast!
(even if comcast is the devil)

Anime Selects has a section that asks what you want to see on their channel... (see where I'm going here...?) :P

So... if you're a fan of Fanime and you want to prove that Fanime is JUST AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER than Expo, then go on to their website and say you want FANIME not EXPO on their show. If we can show a large interest in getting this on TV, then maybe the NON-LARGE CORPORATELY FUNDED anime cons can be beaten by US FAN BASED CONS!

:) Here's the Link: http://www.selectondemand.com/contact.php

( I will say, the shows are rather horrible... BUT IT'S ADVERTISING!) :P

General Convention Discussion / Website Critiques
July 25, 2007, 12:10:28 AM
So with being in the hospital, I know the Website has a lot of errors, and I already know some of them, but in case I don't, I'm leaving it to the dedicated forum members to find the mistakes in Fanime 2008 Beta verson 1.0!

Also, If you'd like to make a comment about it, please use this space too.
Though I warn you, if all you have to say is negitive, I'm expecting you to turn in your portfolio to me to design next year's site.

In any case, Please feel free to comment about the website and help me out by getting to work better while I'm still recovering.

    Do you check
fanime.com or the forums every day just to see if something new is updated?

Do you notice the small errors on web pages and wish you could change then?

Do you wonder when the Fanime '08 website will come up and wish it would appear tomorrow?

Do you have any experience in Web design, Web Development, Graphic Design, Design work, or any artist talent on a computer?

Do you find you will have nothing to do in the month of August and want to fill it up with Fanime things?

Do you want to work for Fanime’s Web staff?[/list]

Cosplay! Construction, Tips, Gatherings, Advice / Corsets
February 23, 2007, 03:50:58 PM
Anyone know where I can find a half corset pattern? The ones that go under the breast and only around the stomach. And preferably one that laces up in front, but I can alter it.

...Or if you know anyone that does custom half corsets for under $75 or that sells half corsets...

Okay, pretty much does anyone have any infomation regarding half corsets!

So I was thinking about this the other day...

Every year, people complain about how much they have to pay for their room for the term of the con. To fix this problem people normally -
A.) Cram as many people in to a room as possible and split the cost, or
B.) Don't get a hotel room and lurk around trying not to fall asleep under a table.

Problems with A are it's against hotel policy and two, really really cramped.
Problems with B are it's really hard to stay away for 4 days and you're not allowed to sleep in the halls, and you will get the dreaded OTAKU FUNK (Meaning you don't shower for 4 days)

My solution to this? Get a hotel room one night!

Shower before you get to the con Friday.
Keep your belonging in your car and park in one of the car lots.
Friday night if you find yourself falling asleep, go watch some anime.
Saturday check in to your hotel, shower, and sleep.
Check out of your hotel Sunday.
Do the same thing as Friday night for Sunday night.
Then Monday, go home, shower, and sleep.

This works for those who can pull late nights, have one or two friends who are willing to do it with you, and can spare the money for one night- split or not.

This does not work for cosplayers â€" (You need a place to change, do makeup and keep your clothing. Suck it up and get the room for 3 nights.) and those who fall asleep easy or need 8 hours of sleep.

I, myself, am not doing it, but I’d thought I’d throw it out there as an alternative.
