I'm trying to convince a friend to join this. At the very least, I intend to show up as Russell from Up.

Progress on Scar delayed by graduation. But in the worst case scenario if I don't have Scar ready, I'll just go with Gluttony or maybe get a wig and go as Sloth. :D

I've started a series of YouTube videos to help both cosplayers and photographers with improving their photo shoots and convention experience. This series is intended to contribute and make our wonderful fandom and cosplayer community a better place. If you have any suggestions for extra topics, please let me know. This thread will be updated as I add new videos.

$20 sounds like a pretty good deal to me...

I agree. ;D It's fulfilling to be able to offer quality shots at an affordable range.

Just wanted to say - good on you!  I think a lot of us have had someone take a ton of pictures of a cosplay, look forward to seeing the pictures of a specific pose or setup, then later only one picture is actually uploaded and it's not the one you were looking forward to.

It's something that I know many photographers would prefer to have control over, especially if it turns out they disagree with edit choices made by someone else. And quite understandable. It's a perspective based on the belief that the photograph is a piece of art created by the photographer, from first exposure through edits to final delivery.

My own perspective is that I do create those pieces of art on the selected favorites by editing them. Then, if there's so many leftover photos, and if giving them over to the subject makes them happy, it doesn't matter to me what edits someone else makes. Also, my news experience means doing everything possible to get a publishable photo right out of camera, and having no problem if a shot is shared without a few extra enhancements from editing.

Yes, the digital negatives are the unedited photo files. I'm fine with cosplayers having the originals and doing their own edits and posting, since they're from their shoot.

Glad to know this one is happening again! My friend is working on Winry and I'm working on Scar.

My friend is working on FF7 Tifa, and I'm working on Barret. It'll be awesome to be there!

I'm excited to attend Fanime, which will be my third year. I'm offering my photography skills to anyone looking for a photographer and taking bookings. My hope is that my decade of fashion, editorial, and advertising experience will be of use to you in photographing your awesome costumes!

I guess it was bad for me to think 8 months out would be enough time to reserve a room haha.

If you haven't grabbed your Fanime tickets, get them now. The sooner you get your tickets, the higher in priority you are for getting those special Fanime reservations. Also, the rates are special for Fanime, much lower than the typical rates. If you're low in priority, you'll have to get rooms much further away than the higher priority (for example, I waited until December to get my tickets, then had to get a hotel room 3 miles away from the convention).

Tip from a fan of the artist alley:
Have a small panel/board with your calling card info on it. People at the artist alley run out of calling cards quickly, so it's better to have an easy-to-spot backup (or an extra huge stack of cards) than to run out of cards and leave fans without a quick way of getting your contact for future purchases.

Way excited for this gathering! I'm going to go as Wind Waker Ganondorf.

I'm also going to upload a gallery of my gathering photos and will share them shortly.

JC52236: Your idea with the wordpress listing of your merchandise is absolutely brilliant!!!

DankLordPopo: Dude I'm in a similar boat as you, wanting to check out retro gaming items. Best advice, show up early to the swap meet and scour specifically for what you want. There are amazing finds and deals, but those vanish within the first 30 minutes.

The areas that sound most interesting are the marketing and platform building. It's so easy to write something, and even easier to publish, but once that's done, how does a non-business savvy writer type manage to effectively promote that work?

I'm looking forward to checking out your group's panels in '18!
