It's been an extremely long while since I've posted in fanime forums, so if this post is not meant to be here I understand, but could not find a place elsewhere that fit my needs. So sorry in advance and please be kind.

I will be cosplaying in a group of 5 this year, 1 day as an entire cast of Batman villians, the other days as 3 skyrim companions and two game of thrones characters.

This is the first time my group has been this large in awhile and many of us will be making our entire cosplays on our own which is both stressful as well as deeply fulfilling. We want to commemorate this event with locating a photographer(s) of any interest in creating a photoshoot/meetup at Fanime 2015.

We are open to discussing terms with anyone who is interested, if you would wish to charge for your time, we are also open to discussing these terms as well. To give you some idea of our costumes I will link a few photos here on our cosplays shortly.

Batman day:
Joker
Harley Quinn
Two Face
Bane
Poison Ivy

Skyrim day:
Kodlak
Farkas
Aela

Accompanied by Game of Thrones:
Drogo and Danaerys

Once again, if this post belongs elsewhere, my apologies.

EDIT:

If anyone is still interested, I will be part of a companions group from skyrim. I was hoping of posting something about it in hopes others would join in as well.

1 Aela
1 Farkas
1 Kodlak

I also wanted to mention something that was a very interesting surprise. I feel horrible because I didn't get his full name, but while walking around aimlessly on Saturday (or Friday, it was one of the two) my husband and I took a seat at stage zero when an African American/Japan living gentleman named Rob got on stage and pretty much told his life story as well as clued us in on an Anime program he as well as others had started up within the last few years. It was a very refreshing thing to listen to considering (at least to me) that stage zero is mostly game shows and AMV's which I am by no means complaining about. He also brought up the male Chun Li cosplayer that goes by Cookie who did that spectacular martial arts display last year at the masquerade. Just wanted to say that I really appreciated the experience and would urge more things like this to be on stage zero during lul periods of Fanime.

I believe that was Rob Miles.

Yes that was it. Thank you!

In addition, while this isn't the hotel's fault at all, we were on the 14th floor which seems to be the PARTY floor. A drinking party was going on next door. Con goers and even fanime staff members were crammed in this standard room, getting drunk, being noisy, and spreading their body heat outside our door. It felt like a sauna made from human heat. EW. D: I wished the Marriott staff had come in to settle things down earlier instead of waiting for hours.

Omg I Heard that too! Same floor but we were lucky to have our room be directly next to the ice machine so weren't as close to the room in question. The noise wasn't too bad until a large group of them started running up and down the hallway and talking EXTREMELY loudly. My husband was literally five seconds away from calling the lobby when they finally got on that elevator they were waiting for.

Hotel: the Marriott

Would you book again: if I didn't my husband would throw a tantrum lol

Pros: great staff except for the female employee at the front desk. My husband and I prefer the sliding bathroom door considering no one else is in our room but the two of us. The beds are AMAZING! And for the first time this year we had room service and even my simple chicken noodle soup was TO DIE FOR and honestly the price was equal if not cheaper to any of the tiny portioned sized food you buy at the con. (I'm never buying anything save for beverages at the con again. Rediculious prices for food that has no nutrition at ALL) I love that it's connected to the convention center and the little deli area next to the lobby is my one stop shop for all breakfast and lunch needs!

Cons: I mentioned it a little on my pros section, but with every handful of great staff there's always one or two that just have to go and ruin the experience for you. I already went over this in a different thread but I'll sum it up here. My husband and I checked in at 10am on day zero and the woman behind the lobby counter actually smirked at me for being partially in costume (sorry, I'm not putting my death the kid wig in my luggage to be destroyed thanks) and honest to got shoved my confirmation number print out back at me and said "I don't need THAT" as if it were a pile of crap. I'm sorry, didn't want to work the con weekend hunny? Too bad, don't treat your customers that way. I very rarely go to management about employees but this woman's face looked like she had something crammed up her butt.

Special Notes to Share: Despite the bad service when we checked in I have to mention that a day prior to day zero a friend of ours was kind enough to lug my husbands almost 5ft cross punisher into the hotel to have them keep it there overnight. The staff there took such great care of it and even wrapped it in bubble wrap in case it were to fall over. The bellhop.brought it up to the room with mybhusbands help and didn't so much as even give our outfits or quite frankly the seemingly offensive wrapped cross a sideways glance. He was tipped handsomely. ^_^ and the maids are great at this hotel. When they realized we weren't the destructive type like so many con goers they were very happy to clean the rooms while avoiding all our props and swag.

I'll be returning as Death the Kid and most likely Harley Quinn but my biggest concern right now is figuring out what the hell I can cosplay that goes with the new theme for next year. There are going to be SO MANY Alice in Wonderland's and Black Butlers. DX

LOL at the Black Butlers.

@topic:
I'm going for a character whos from a side scroller shoot-lots-of-things-for-major-points-and-combos xbox 360 anime game called Timeless. Theres a boss who wears a tux with a semi-large pink heart armband around his elbow and carries a staff with a larger pink heart on it with 3 spikes, 2 on the sides and 1 on top so it'll be fun to see that.

P.S. looking for anyone to do this with me! I have the game manual with characters so I can take pics and send you how they look like!

Tried looking it up online but nothing showed up. Any character names you could throw my way so I can check it out?

I can't help that I love Alice in Wonderland to death. D:

The theme does make me want to go ahead and do her Queensland dress complete with an epic Hobby Horse from the Madness Returns game. But that all depends on how lazy I won't be within the next year so I could actually make it.

Not complaining about legitimate cosplays lol. I'm just saying there's gonna be a lot of them XD.

The Good: I wanted to mention this because there's been so many complaints about day zero (and I do agree with most of them but) that despite the problems I was very happy with a young blonde haired female rover/volunteer. I recall her wearing yellow, maybe a pikachu item? I forget, but she was extremely helpful even though she looked completely over worked. My husband and I had a very low number for the day zero Thursday swap meet and we were fortunate to think ahead so that I was the group leader in case something happened. My husband snagged her with a quick "excuse me" while she was running by because the line had JUST started moving. She didn't know the answer to our question regarding whether or not my husband needed his ID for the swap meet line but boy did she get to the bottom of it for us. She went on her headset while (I'm sorry I'm just gonna say it, annoying as HELL teenage kids were berating her specifically about how slow the line was) and said it wasn't needed so I could take it for the badge pick up. I would love it if someone could tell me her name or something so I can personally thank her and maybe request for her to come again if she was willing? Just my two cents there.

The Iffy I know this isn't something Fanime staff can control, but on Thursday at 10am my husband and I showed up at the Marriott to check in. We were fully aware that most of the hotels don't allow check in until 3:00ish but will take some luggage for safe keeping so we weren't expecting a rediculious red carpet treatment. When we walked up to the front desk where a female employee ushered us forward to speak I started to explain that we were hoping to check in and I provided a print out of our Fanime hotel confirmation number....to...be...nice. Not only was she OBVIOUSLY unhappy with my casual Death the Kid attire but she also literally hastily thrust the print out back towards me and said "I DON'T need THAT" as if it were something filthy. I'm sorry when did courteous behavior fall by the wayside?! I'm 25 years old, not some annoying child of 14 that's jumping up and down screeching "Fanime ROCKS!!!" There was absolutely no reason for her to treat my husband and I that way and before someone says "well you WERE in cosplay..." ....it's FANIME I'm not cosplaying on March 11th smack in the middle of rush hour traffic doing the Cha Cha where yes, granted, anyone would have cause to look at me sideways. We did get checked in after she took down our information but seriously that was rediculious.

Another iffy thing this year: what happened to the rovers or volunteers that keep the hooligans away from the religious protestors? If there were some and I just missed them I apologize for that, but they could have done a better job if so. I know that some people think its funny take photos with them or hold up signs next to them but some kids were actually TOUCHING and POKING them. Aren't these crazy fanatics known for sewing people for much less than that? I just don't want the con to suffer because kids without a much needed adult there to dissuade their antics go too far and actually assault the protestors. And on the positive side, the less you talk to them, the more likely they are to leave right?

The Bad

1. Day zero line ya, you all have heard it but seriously cutting was a HUGE issue this year.
2. I saw someone else state this before on this topic but SMOKERS! seriously don't sit down right next to me and light up okay? Have some curtesy to at LEAST stand a few feet away from me! Just cuz u don't care about your lungs doesn't mean you can force me to breathe it.
3. I was happier with peace bonding this year but honestly, don't talk to me like I'm 5 okay? I had a prop every single day of the con and the same 2 women were working each time I went in and I KNOW they must explain the rules each time thoroughly and I can't expect them to recognize me from the days prior, but I'm obviously not younger than 20 so this talking to me in a condescending tone thing....not appreciated. I handed them my props, explained each one thoroughly, allowed them to bond some of them shut with no loud obnoxious behavior etc...but when handed my items I was told in a tone reserved for small children and DOGS "don't go swinging it around okay?" .....it's a gun....do people SWING guns? I thought they Pointed them. This complaint also goes for only one of the lost and found staff. Older lady with long grey hair was very short with me when I went in everyday to see if my lost gloves were found and turned in. I get that some people might pull the "ya lost a large money clip with 300 bucks in it" gag but these were brown fake leather gloves...sorry I had the audacity to ask after my favorite gloves I've used since I got my first car...jeez. They never did turn up either, I can't believe ppl would steal gloves ugh.

In past years, I have always brought some extra plastic bags to hand out to buyers so that they have something to carry the stuff they buy from me with, but a friend just pointed out to me that San Jose has had a bag ban in effect since the beginning of this year. Would that be something to make the swap meet attendees aware of or are we expecting them to know about the ban already?

This.

Ya honestly I had no idea about the ban until I saw a forum in serious business regarding it. I highly doubt most fanime attendees know about this, which could potentially cause problems for both swap meet sellers and buyers alike.

I'm getting a lot of mixed messages here... is the general consensus that the Thurs line is worse than Fri @ 8 am? Thanks.

It can be, but people go to Thursday pickup to get their badge so they don't have to waste con time on Friday.
To be fair, their are hardly any events on Friday Morning.

Yeah I'm one of those Thursday badge pick up people. It takes a long time but I think that's part of the fun waiting for badge pick up to open while knowing you aren't missing ANYTHING important at the con. *shrugs* it all depends on your preference. Me? I just can't hold my excitement when it comes to Fanime so getting to San Jose ASAP makes me happy.  ;D

I'll be going as the three cosplays seen in my signature. I'm not certain on the order yet but I know Harley will be Sunday. My husband will be cosplaying with me in the corresponding cosplays below:

Harley Quinn - Joker (animated series not Dark Knight version)
Death the Kid- Stein
Dominique the Cyclops - Wolfwood (with cross punisher lol)

We would love to find others especially interested in meeting us as our Trigun cosplays because it will most likely be our last year going as the two characters. We're very bummed cuz we had more friends going as other members of the Gun Ho Guns but they had to drop out of Fanime last minute.

Anyone interested let me know! ;D

If there is no other way, are my husband and I able to bring two tubs then the third if I wait in line before the room is opened for setup? I understand the contract states bringing items in to sell then going back for more isn't allowed, but is what I proposed above alright?

Yes, the waiting in line thing is fine. We only prohibit going back for more once you are in your place. Our problem in the past is that goods have been approved, and then someone will "go to the car" and get another 4-5 boxes of adult material, for example, that doesn't get approved. We then find out about it later from someone who reports that adult material is being sold in bulk, etc. So because of this, once you are at your spot - you can't bring anything else in. However, doing multiple trips while you are still waiting in line is fine.

Thanks!
Marisa

Thanks!  ;) :D

Okay phew lol. I figured as much but wasn't sure. K, I'll try something more along those lines. Thank you for your continued help regarding this  ;D

not really, looking for something smaller than your footprint and can be easily and quickly moved. (think folding) Also, something that would not be too much of an obstruction in the case of an emergency.
I get everything above but "smaller than your foot print." people bring blankets, pillows, boom boxes (not cd players boom boxes) and last year the first person in line had a baby carriage. Not trying to be difficult or cheeky but smaller than a foot print? Is that an expression?  ???

I was planning on bringing either tiny lawn chairs or pillows. So as long as it sticks within the taped lines & can be easily picked up should the lines move, that would be okay?

Should be ok, but make sure its within reason

Would you say this was within reason?

Hello! I was wondering if you could clear up a few things for me?

My husband and I are coming from out of town by way of amtrak so we don't have access to a vehicle. If we have two or three tubs worth of items to sell, there's no other way it seems than to lug them by foot to the fairmont. Not complaining I swear lol. I was just wondering if there's another way that I am not aware of?

If there is no other way, are my husband and I able to bring two tubs then the third if I wait in line before the room is opened for setup? I understand the contract states bringing items in to sell then going back for more isn't allowed, but is what I proposed above alright?

And I was also wondering if we would be walking in groups to and from the hotel and convention center? Just figured that would be a better idea than going alone.

Thanks!

As a first timer...uh...where do we sign up? Will the main page of the Fanime webpage have a link or do we need to sign up here in forums? I just want to know before hand so I don't have to dance around for a few precious minutes before finding the right page.

There will be a link both on the site AND the forums.

However, I personally will be posting the link on the forums, so I dunno if you feel that gives you an advantage or what ^_^;;

It will be posted here:

at 11:59pm PST

Thank you so much!
