Big Event Showcase / Experienced Ballroom social?
May 23, 2013, 11:12:45 PM
Hey Fanime,

I remember hearing last year that there was a ballroom dance event for veteran/more experienced ballroom dancers. I didn't see anything listed in the schedule this year-- is this still on for 2013?

I'm looking to practice some Latin and rythmn -- hopefully with some out of towners in a social setting.

Anyone know what's up?

Thanks

As the title indicates, I'm looking for anime on Netflix that isn't dubbed. Once you've heard Japanese voice acting, English voice acting and script-altering becomes cringe-worthy. Maybe I've had a little too much of the forbidden fruit? Haha.

Anyway, I love crunchyroll but I'm sort of running low on new titles that appeal to me. I happen to have Netflix so I'm wondering if any of the titles on Netflix come in native Japanese dubbing with english subtitles.

I found it. After years of research involving multicolored bubbling beakers, charts, graphs, and a lot of people in white lab coats we have arrived at our answer. Behold:

So, next time someone drops some dubstep you know what to do.

What's up FanimeCon,

I plan on presenting a fairly comprehensive, in-depth, panel on Kpop for the 2012 FanimeCon. I plan to speak on: the variety of images we see in Kpop, the Kpop business model, grassroots fandom, as well as the anticipated future development of Kpop. I plan on covering these topics over the course of two-hours (yes, that long) accompanied with power point and audience interaction.

I'm looking for someone who would enjoys intellectually dissecting the hallyu-wave, and to provide a counter-point to my own perspective.

Anyone interested? :3

Hey guys.

What are some of the asian pop artists/songs that you want to make sure are heard at Fanime? Leave a comment. Please do not hate on other suggestions made.

Here's a teaser for some kpop at Fanime->

Namie Amuro, the jpop diva queen, let the korean girlies of After School join in a single "Make it Happen" that was released a few hours ago.

You can check it out here:

General Anime Chat / Your favorite Anime Villains
February 20, 2011, 09:51:34 PM
It's the bad guys that drive the story. Some more than others. Some I really love to hate. Some of these villains are great multi-dimensional characters that don't always make the sexy spotlight just because they're the antagonist. Let's start a thread on your favorite baddies.

I'll go first. >_>

I actually have 3. The first is Aku from  Samurai Jack . For being the grand evil shapeshifting master of darkness, Aku ironically relies upon the foiled attempts of minions to take out Samurai Jack -- which makes for some pretty good comic relief.

The second is Hisoka from  Hunter x Hunter. What I love about this guy is that, like his nen type states, he's unpredictable. While the other villains and protagonists of the anime may have clear motives and goals, Hisoka likes to keep you guessing. He receives some sort of erotic satisfaction from killing difficult opponents, which makes for excellent antagonist material. I honestly follow hunterxhunter just so I can see how Hisoka prepares Gon to become his next meal.

Lastly, there's this silly guy in an orange mask who appears to have more nefarious goals than his outward persona appears to let on...

Incredible Stuff I can Make / [music] Anime Mix
December 15, 2010, 06:39:32 PM
Hey everyone!

Since it looks like my chances of DJ'ing at Fanime are now (and forever)null; I decided that I'll still try to practice my craft for my target audience. Below is a short Anime trance/electro/dubstep mix I made. There's just a little kpop at the end, but the tracks are from anime soundtracks for the most part. Please let me know what you guys think! I'm trying to get better as a DJ, so any criticism you have is very useful for me to hear.

Check out the 5:29 minute mix here:

Hurr-ro FanimeCon Forum go-ers,

I'm looking/hoping to be a DJ for this year's Fanime. In order to demonstrate my competence as a DJ, below is a short 5:29 min mix I made in literally 6 minutes. I included samples of what I expect to play should I DJ at Fanime.

I typically spin Top 40 and Asian Pop mashups and mixes, but anime conventions are a very special beast of their own. I hope the above mix demonstrates that uniqueness for this potential gig.

If you'd like to see a longer set that I did at a house party for the same sort of crowd that attends anime conventions, you can view a 2-part video of it here:

Part 2) http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=608438911454

That's it! I hope you guys give my sets a quick listen and leave some sort of response of what you like/dislike/would-like-to-hear-more-of. My dj fan page is at www.facebook.com/djpeterlo

Keep on rockin', fanime!
