Title: KUDOS TO REGISTRATION!
Post by: FanFicGuru on May 22, 2014, 12:45:50 PM
I know it's only Thursday, but they opened the line 3 hours early and the process is extremely smooth! One of the vice chairs was in front of me and said they average 3600/hour with the new system. GREAT JOB REG STAFF! Let's see how tomorrow goes...

That really was incredible.

Last year, all sorts of factors came together to leave everyone with a sour taste in their mouth in regards to badge pick up. This year, it was a complete 180. I have never been to any other con where everything went so smooth.

Thank you guys. I know we all appreciate the amazing work you did.

We were in line a few minutes after 9, reg opened around 11:15, we got our badges a few minutes before noon.

They couldn't hand out bags and lanyards fast enough!

Good job Fanime! Registration gets the con off to a fantastic start. Big thank you to everyone who made registration so painless this year.

Agreed on all points! This was the fastest registration pickup for ANY convention of ANY kind I have ever seen.  It was walk-in, walk-out around 12:15.  Thank you ALL!

I arrived there at 10 with my chair XD..I was prepared to wait 5 hours, but instead I only had to wait an hour and a half. Kudos to registration!

Also wanted to add that throwing the beach ball was a fun way to pass the time.

Got in line around 11:40, got out with all 6 of my groups badges around 12:30. The line wasn't moving a lot when I got there but it picked up speed fast and soon it was steady shuffle into the main room with the registration booths and it only took like 30 seconds to print out all badges once my postcard was scanned. Best badge pickup experience I've had  ;) Really hope this system stays for future years. The only hiccup was when the scanner for the line I was originally in stopped working, but moving lines didn't add much more than 2 minutes to my wait time.

This is great way to start off con. Every member of staff I passed in the non line had a smug smile and a knowing nod. Great job reg staff!

Agreed on all fronts. This is my fifth year and in all the time I've gone, this is the best badge pickup I have ever seen. There was no line when I went to pick my badge up. Keep it up, Fanime. The reg. people deserve a cake. Heck, they deserve two.

I'm sure that this has all been said before, but I'm going to say it again.

Good Job Fanime on improving the pre-paid badge pick up, and badge printing. You are leaving me incredibly hopeful for this fanime. That said, thanks for making it so smooth too. I was really impressed with how quickly everything went by. I was prepared to sit around and wait until five pm for my badge. I'm thrilled that the line opened up almost four hours earlier than the announced time originally. Thanks so much to the fanime registration staff!

Pre-paid badge pickup was awesome.  The longest amount spent was simply getting from the entry to picking up the badge, a matter of minutes (we got there about 2pm and had the badge as quickly as that!).  My only complaint is that my friend's badge had the cutest penguin and I had the bishie... hmm tough choice!!

I, too, want to commend reg staff. Staff has been so disorganized with getting the website up and so on, and I (along with everyone else) was so frustrated. I was sure LineCon would happen again... But I couldn't be happier that staff didn't drop the ball with the reg lines this year! <3 <3 <3 My sister and I got there at 1:30 and we were in and out within ten minutes (probably more like five, really). Same with my brother when he came around 3:00.

I can't help but wonder what will happen with all the fan-made LineCon 2014 merchandise though. Hm...

My sister and I encountered the same problem... I have a penguin badge and she has a bishie badge. Ha ha ha. :)

This is great news!  If it ends up being as short the other days this weekend then I'll get a one day pass after all.

I wonder why they didn't let people beforehand know what they were planning on doing to make it go so smoothly, though!  Maybe they didn't want to get people's hopes up in case it didn't turn out.  But had we known, we would have preregistered.

Major kudos! I was a group leader for eight people and I had a friend time me on how long it took me to get through the "maze" and get the badges. 7.5 minutes. Best Day 0 ever since 2005.

We got there about 4pm, and my group was totally floored at seeing the "maze" almost deserted! Major props to the reg team for the successful murder of Linecon! :D

Dude. I won't be getting to Fanime until tomorrow afternoon, and I am FLOORED in the best way possible just reading this thread. My group made plans to leave super early tomorrow morning in anticipation of the huge lines for badge pickup, but now I'm feeling this growing sense of elation at the thought that maybe I won't actually be subject to a long wait after a six-hour car ride! ;)

We'll see how it pans out when I arrive tomorrow, but I'll say thanks in advance! Way to go, staff!

I have to say to the entire registration team you guys did an awesome job today.

The only real reason for people to complain is if the group leader wasn't in line when registration started. But in the end with there being no lines that ended up being a non issue.

The only group that might not have been happy is the swap meet. I think they got slammed due to everyone having their badges.

Haha, I joked around with friends that the spirit of the con had been diminished a bit because we didn't have to wait in line. I had so much extra time, I didn't know what to do.

I don't know what the registration department did this year to streamline things, but oh my god did they get it right =).  I got there Friday at about 2:30, and it took me a total of maybe 5 minutes tops to power walk through the yellow tape, pick up my group's badges, and get the bags.  All I can say is thank you, registration, and keep it up for the years to come!  =D

Seriously, bless the hearts of whoever came up with the new reg system.  From entering the line area to badge in hand, it was less than 6 minutes 40 seconds, and most of that was spent walking up and down the taped-off isles. :p

Next year, keep that same system for badges. Just cut down on the maze

Definitely kudos to how quickly registration was able to process! The only drawback was the maze and we can't even cut through the tape even with no line. I honestly thought that was absolutely unnecessary and a complete waste of time. If there's no line, why waste our time walking through all that? They should have at least taken some of those poles/caution tape down.

The tape and line has to be there for any line that may form in the future. If they take it down and then the line starts blocking fire exits etc, now they have to worry about re-positioning people and establishing boundaries so that people don't jump the line.

Additionally, by building in that maze they also helped to stagger the people who got to the door. For example, if there is a line of 10 people at the front of the maze and then 10 more people enter the "maze" and take about a minute to get to the front, now the line is no longer there. It gives registration time they need to process any residual line.

Seriously, if all people have to complain about was having to walk through an EMPTY line maze, I'd say Registration honestly has nothing to change.

The real reason why we left it up instead of having a way to cut through the lines was so that the people are staggered. We ended up making a cut eventually, once we were convinced that we wouldn't have a huge rush on Saturday morning, Sunday morning, etc.

They could have always added/removed as needed including those cutting into the line. I actually had to walk through the empty maze. They wouldn't let anyone around it.

Another reason why they left the mazes up?  They just want to make sure that we fans got our exercise at the start of our con experience :D

(Never mind that we'd be running around a good-sized chunk of Downtown SJ as well as the Convention Center all weekend...)

Seriously though, let me echo the kudos for sending LineCon to the best-forgotten portions of Fanime history (of course, there's Son of LineCon at the Swap Meet now...).  From over six hours wait last year to six minutes to process this year, massive improvement and a good way to start the con on the right foot!

I know that last year they were still in the process of some extensive renovations at the convention center, so there were a number of facilities that were offline, etc.

With that being said, I don't think that there's any need to dig up old dirt. What's past is done, and now we can embrace the new registration system and hopefully put all of that behind us. :D
