I had a wonderful experience at the Marriott, just like I did last year.

Our room was amazing. We were in a corner room on the 19th floor, which made me VERY happy. The view was amazing and there was plenty of room for all of us.

My roommates were all really cool and considerate, no loud entries at 3 AM, no drama, no craziness. Just a ton of fun.

The hotel was very helpful, even though they had no blankets left, they did send us some extra sheets, and that helped us out.

Next year:

1) I'm getting a junior suite with a sofa
2) I'm only having 2 roommates.
3) I want to order for a mini fridge.

that's about it. I had a great stay.

I stayed at the marriott and I had a good stay there. I just wish they didn't put me there up on the 25th floor and next to the elevators. It was Heaven(yea right) and the ride downstairs was 10 mins at the most with all the stops. -_-;;

Hopefully, If I reserve in advance, I want to stay at lower floor then a higher one.

Next year, i'm having 4 roommates and twin beds. That's all.

Had a great sleep at the crowne plaza.. Thoes beds are soo comfotable.  I really hated the TV. Had an old POS. Other than that it was a good place. Just didnt like the walk to the hotel late at night. Got bother by the homeless and downtown san jose weardos. Scary walk at night by yourself. Next year im staying at a nice extra large room at the Hilton or marriott.

I booked with the Marriott either the first or second day we could reserve a room. I requested a low floor, mini fridge, and microwave. Didn't get the mini fridge or microwave, but I didn't need it anyway. As for the low floor, I got the 6th floor, which was totally within stair-climbing distance \o/.

I got transferred to a king-sized bed room instead of two doubles... I didn't really care, since I was the only one there, but I can imagine that given they sold out, anyone who was supposed to have a king-sized and got stuck with something else is probably pissed off about it.  I'm probably not the only one it happened to, either.  I would've made a fuss, but as I said, it wasn't a big deal to me and I just wanted to crash someplace without waiting around...

Otherwise, everything was fine with getting in and the room and all that.  I didn't have any maids barging in when I didn't want them to, which is unusual and awesome, the room was on a high floor which I enjoyed, there wasn't as much noise as last year (on my floor, anyway) and uh... well, the only thing that sucked was that the restaraunt's menu changed. ;)  But that's nobody's fault at Fanime!

i shouldnt complain because i wasnt the one who reserved the room (altough i did pitch in a few more dollars than my roomies), but here we go.

hilton got our reservation wrong, trying to give us two rooms w/double beds instead of one. we fixed it up, but we ended up having to stay on a smoking floor, which made sleeping a bit of a problem.

and...yea. the all-too-well-known elevator problems, but thats a given.

the tv's didnt have any a/v outlets, nullifying the use of my roomie's ps2.

everything else was good, though.

My hotel room was very nice. King bed, which is plenty for just me (though I sorta acquired some roomies later). No wireless in-room though, which is rare for Marriots, at least the ones I've stayed in.
The Marriot TVs, unlike the Hiltons, have RCA and S-Video inputs, which was excellent cause I got to watch DVDs on my friend's PS2.
The elevators were always packed, but I guess there's nothing that can be done about that...

Pros: Friendly and Helpful staff. Well stocked rooms and easy access to the con.

Cons: Elevator rides anyone?

spiffy office tables @ the marriott <33
lifesaver for last-minute-artwork
the room was roomy and nice (corner on 20th floor)

we called + asked the day-of about mini-fridges, but was told that they were for medical uses only o.o

I stayed at the Marriot and found my room to be excellent. I was on the 21st floor, which was annoying at times since the elevator ends up stopping for people at almost every floor. However this was more than made up for by the room's view. I slept on the floor because my roomates had the beds, but I must say I had plenty of room on that floor and the carpet was pretty comfortable. I particularly liked that the hotel let me check my items at the lobby after checkout time, so I didn't have to carry all my things around the last few hours I was there.

The only problem I had was after now being unpacked I can say that my sunglasses are gone, and that it is almost 100% likely that the maids took them (on accident I hope) and the hotel did nothing to help me with getting them back. They were both fairly new and my only pair, so it's quite upsetting.

I stayed on the 14th floor in I believe the adjoining room to an executive suite(?) in the Hilton. (Actually I'm still on site cleaning up some odds and ends - I was able to move into the actual suite since my boss went home last night. I'm typing on the glorious wall-bed as we speak and it is COMFY!)

The room was excellent, the staff and housekeeping were courteous and were always helpful. The view was breathtaking and really made things easier to take, especially what with staying up all night formatting schedules and documents to go to print that morning. I think it also helped that I had great roommates to share the experience with.

I loved the hotel stay and I hope we can get the same room again!

I stayed at the Hilton and made my reservations for one bed and one rollaway and got lucky with two twin beds, but it was on 11th floor. I tipped the maids around 50.00 the first night and was in heaven! Those ladies came before going to sleep and cleaned up, straighen out all our stuff, bought in new towels at least 3 times a day, I swear we were the cleanest people at the con with everyone taking baths around 3 times a day. The ladies even helped us carry out our stuff to our car...

Good times. Great housekeeping. Sadly the didn't speak much english, but they went beyond the call of duty.

Overall it was good (7th floor, yay).  Kind of lonely since it was only my brother and I sleeping (but a lot of times just me) in a room with two twin beds. I'd be nice to see how rooming with more people is.
Awesome showers, good and quick house keeping, mini fridge for milk and cold cuts, great beds (and for some reason there was a porno under one before we even got there)

The only bad things were the elevators, not people but the pressure, and losing a fanime shirt and just found out also my teeth retainer.  Does anyone know if we can call or do anything about losing stuff like this?

I stayed in a Double/Double room on the 15th floor of the Marriott. I checked in 15 minutes before the check-in time and got what I requested.

I thought it wasn't really a bad stay overall, but it could've been better:

Room: It would've helped if there was actually a lock on the bathroom. I accidentally walked in on my roomate's boyfriend in the bathroom so that was embarrasing. A guy also walked in on me while I was in the shower so that really sucked too. I just avoid people doing it to me by making a little makeshift sign saying "<my name irl> is in here! Keep out!" since the room was co-ed(even that doesn't ALWAYS work). I also didn't enjoy getting my finger burned from the coffee maker inside the Marriott.

But the bed was really comfy. Since I was the one who reserved and checked into the room when one of my friends screwed up the Hilton staff reservation, some of my roomies rewarded me with yaoi, arcade quarters, and A WHOLE DOUBLE BED FOR MYSELF! The bed was so awesome! It was comfortable! I enjoyed the room.

Hotel: The elevators weren't as evil as the ones over at the Hilton, though I still hated the elevators either way. The staff were nice too, though I was confused on some of the processes because this is my first time reserving, checking in, paying for nights, and checking out of a room so I didn't realize room service people could be tipped nor did I expect the hotels to have such a high tax so I ended up asking my dad to drive over to bring more money for the stay because of that.

Roomies: I had a friend from school and two other cool friends room with me so it wasn't that bad, except one of them chose to stay up all night and never stayed at the room due to complications and the other tried to pack my room with all these people I hardly even knew(I knew a few of them, but it wasn't the first time he tried to squeeze in extra people into a hotel room either). Some of them were really cool. Others, I just wasn't too comfortable with them. I don't think I'll be rooming with all of them next year because it was really disorganized all over, even though I loved the company at night after it was so lonely Friday night. Now only was it hard to find my stuff through the flood of bags, but I ended up getting some of my stuff lost/stolen and it was hard finding a place to sleep when the beds were taken Sunday night. I hated walking through the bodies on the floor at night just to go outside the room/to the bathroom.

I also had another group of friends with a Hilton staff room and they were all upset with my roomie's attempt to pack my room with his friends because they found out he's tried to do this a couple of times each year and it's not safe for me or my friends because it's not allowed in hotels so for next year:

1) I'm going to reserve a staffer's room at the Hilton with my other group of friends(or a suite, depending on how much my roomates can pitch in)
2) I'm going to actually plan out the process for reserving the rooms needed for our hotel stay, including payment, roomates, etc.

Asides from that fiasco, I enjoyed my hotel stay overall...

Stayed at the Hilton and was lucky that my room was on the 3rd floor. Also more lucky that they had a laundry room ! Kinda wished their tvs had rca/s-video so I didn't have to bring in another tv but that ended up working out for testing videos to be shown at fanime.

Pro:
Excelent Beds and showers
On site laundry room
Self Serve Parking cheaper then Marriot
Free Wireless internet (via internet cafe) not as stable

Con:
No microwave
No discounted internet or self serve parking
Hotel resturant jacked up prices $20+ for a meal???
Check out at 11am (Perfer 12pm)

As for your requests for next year, I do want to bring to everyone's attention that the Marriott only carries a limited number of mini fridges and they are reserved for those that need it for medical uses.  I'm sorry to be the one to give the bad news on mini fridge requests but hope that everyone understands.

Thanks again.

Hi there, I would like to follow up with your situation. Can you let me know what hotel you had a reservation for? Also, when you say that you got transferred to a king instead of a dbl/dbl...was this told to you by the front desk at check in? Were you given a king room because the dbl/dbl wasn't ready when you checked in? And if you can provide your confirmation number so that I can look up your reservation, that would be great as well. Should you wish to discuss this off the forum, please feel free to email me at: [email protected]. Thank you.

I'm trying to figure out how the hotel got your reservation wrong. Were two different reservations made for you? If so, did you make one and your roommate make another one? Or did you each make your own reservation and decide at check in that you wanted to share one room?
Please email me at: [email protected] with your last names and confirmation number(s) so that I can look into this.

Hi there. I just took a look at your online reservation and do not see any request for a roll away bed noted on your reservation. Also, if you made your reservation online, when did you speak to someone about a rollaway bed? Was this person at FanimeCon Housing or at the hotel?

At the Marriott, king bedded rooms with a rollaway and high speed internet combined were sold starting at $115 sgl/dbl occupancy, so I'm a little perplexed to why someone told you that a rollaway was free when the rate was already pre-established.

If you could provide further info, that would be great. Either on here or to: [email protected].

Thank you and I'm sorry that you were given the wrong information.

If you are missing any items or left any behind accidentally at the hotel, please do call them. Housekeeping does keep track and a log of items found and if they have your item, they will send them back to the rightful owners. But the cost of shipping is usually charged to the person that lost or left the item.

Yes. Depending on the hotels availability and flexibility, it is possible to get a later check out time without a late check out fee. During busy times, some hotels may not honor late check out because they might need to have housekeeping go in and clean the room for the next guest. If a hotel is able to extend a late check out, it is usually anywhere from 1-2 hours.

Like you said, the self serve parking was cheaper than the Marriott - my brother was staying at the Marriott but came to park in the Hilton garage.

I think someone already mentioned the problem with requesting double beds and getting king size instead. We had five people in our room, so we rotated each night, but there was plenty of floorspace which was actually kind of nice. For once we could move and everyone had cornerspace for all of their things.

Other Pros:
-Free wireless (near the internet cafe)
-Refrigerator
-Locks on the bathroom doors

Marriott also had a late check out policy thing. It was good because I was able to request that we have a bit longer (We got until 2 PM) to check out. THat helped because then we weren't running around, we were still out of there by about 1:15, but the fact that we could do that was awesome.

The best way I can describe the dealings of the Marriott with my companions and myself is complete incompetence.

First, they didn't bother actually checking our reservation in their system when we arrived, but just took a look at the number and immediately (incorrectly) stated that we had a reservation for the Hilton, forcing us to pack everything up and head over to the Hilton.

Second: The Hilton basically said "No. They're idiots," and sent us back to the Marriott (after calling them and explaining how to use the reservation lookup system to the incompetent desk-staff).

Third: When we got back to the Marriott, it took them a half-hour to process us in and then they ended up double-charging the room to our credit cards.

Fourth: They completely, COMPLETELY ignored the "Do Not Disturb" tags at all times.

Since Fanime has been held at this location, I have always stayed at the Marriott.  This year was noticeably better than last year for me.  Last year I requested extra towels several times (all of us, fortunately, shower daily), and none were ever provided.  This year, I did the same, and towels were promptly provided whenever I asked.  We had a great room on the end of the hallway (less noise) and room service was prompt as well for my roommate, who ordered it.

The only problem I did have was trying to get my car a couple of times--even though I waited in the lobby near the door, when they brought my car up they failed to notify me, so I ended up waiting for nothing because my car was already brought up and parked in the far corner of the valet parking space!  It wasn't at particularly busy times, too...  :?

Anyway, this year went quite well as far as hotel accommodations go!

I would have to say that it's the first hotel I've stayed at that has a fridge. :) As to whether I'll stay at the Hilton again remains to be seen, as I've now stayed at both the marriott and the hilton.

I stayed at the Marriott last year and this year and had no problems either time.  This year I got a room on the 8th floor and was able to walk up/down the stairs when I couldn't wait for the elevator.  I was able to snag a fridge last year, but they had run out already by the time I checked in on Friday - I didn't need it after all, though so no prob there.

I like that the Marriott has the Asian film rooms downstairs so I could just run downstairs and hop into one of the rooms (sweet!).  The Corner Cafe Kitchen was not bad, either, the salads were not that expensive and they had a great bag of tortilla strips.

Quote from: "happysky"oh... and I dunno what the Hilton stocks, but the Marriott had nice Bath & Bodyworks Aromatherapy Citrus somethingsomething Shampoo/Conditioner/Lotion/Soaps. i forgot to grab the unused ones before we left :X.

Aromatherapy Orange Ginger body lotion, shampoo and conditioner.  Only the body lotion is available for purchase at the Bath & Bodyworks shops, I have checked at several places and even asked at the front desk:  the shampoo and conditioner are only to be had in a room at a Marriott.

I managed to get a late checkout on Monday (2:00pm) but was able to get my car from valet, load up all my luggage, and then have it returned it to parking with no problem and not a long wait for the car, either.  So I checked out by 9:00 instead and hung out in the vid rooms, etc.

The maids were very friendly and understanding when I had to go up to my room to change for a gathering on Saturday and offered to come back later to clean up.

Had Cartoon Network (!) and managed to catch Samurai Champloo.  I'll be staying at the Marriott next year too.

Stayed at the Marriot, 12th floor loved it.  Very good for waiting until 2 or 3 weeks before the con to get on the waiting list!  Room right around the corner from the elevator and a great view of the "HILT N" sign    Bed was comfy, plenty of room space, great curtains (actually too good, had no idea what time it was until I could roll over to the side of the bed where the clock was  :P ).  Liked the fact that the TV had S-Video up front too, even though that I only used it once when my friend brought his laptop up, and then we didn't really watch the TV as we were busy drinking and taking Jell-o shots  :D
The safe was a nice touch made me feel much better about leaving my laptop, cd's, and cash in my room.
As for the lack of a mini fridge, I just brought a cooler and kept it filled with ice from the ice machine.
The bathroom door was weird, I could definatly see that as being a problem if you had roommates.
Was my first time staying in a hotel by myself, I'm definatly going to do it again next year!

I had an AWESOME time at the Hilton this year. They've most definitely got my business for next year. Sean, the person who checked us in was extremely helpful.
Somehow Fanime Housing had put one room under my name, and the other under my bf's name.. so even though 'joint' rooms were requested, they didn't know what they were joining to so the request wasn't fullfilled. So when I went in to checkin, Sean spent 20 minutes moving single rooms around to make it work. We ended up getting a King size bedroom, but it was even a corner room so it was HUGE and ajoint to two double beds. It worked PERFECTLY!

We were able to get a roll-away in the king bedroom as well to make up for it, and there was enough room in the room to WALTZ if you wanted to. ^_^ *heart*
We were also able to get a microwave for the room, and they were both equipped with fridges right off the bat. As for check-out the front desk lady was very nice, thought probably stressed, and b/c of the back-up of so many people checking out, we were able to chill in our room past the check-out time until a bellhop came up.
Oh! And we just brought a t.v. to hook-up and play games on. The tables were large enough to have the t.v. and snacks on it. ^_^
Also! There wasn't anywhere NEAR the jam packing in the elevators, that I noticed at least.

The only con is, when we went back up to the room to officially check-out there were men in our room taking apart the beds for some reason or another. When they asked us why we were there, I said to call in our check out, they told us we were checked out, I asked if they had checked us out and they said 'no'... Then one of the men took all of the key cards I had left on the desk. But I told the front office that they entered before they should have, and that one of them took the card keys. I haven't been charged for the room yet on my card, but I'll probably keep an eye for it just in case they try to charge us. That's probably my only concern *^_^* other than that..

Hilton = Awesome

pros:
No charge for the microwave.Yummy warm food ready for us on that. ^^
Two free water bottles each day.
Courteous staff.

Cons:
Parking. We had a hilton pass to go in and out.But there wasn't a guy there to let us out.We spoke to him through the intercom and he never came out.
Stairs and elevators. The stairs in the hilton were only for emergencies. We were on the thirdfloor.the convention was right there merely on the second floor.Using the stairs would have saved us from the nightmarish game of waiting for the elevators. Our room was right on the next floor!!!
The pool right next to our window. We always heard loud people next to us due to only being seperated by a window. And we had to have the shades closed to keep certain people from peering in on us.

What kinds of problems were people having with the elevators at the Hilton, other than the third-floor issue?  I know they were a bit crowded this year at times, but I never saw them as bad as the Mariott elevators were in prior years.  Although I did experience the' pressure' issue I think someone mentioned before... had a few dizzy spells on them, especially with the frequent starts and stops.

I stayed at the Sainte Claire, and the hotel was beautiful, and the remodel improved some of the bathroom issues from the year before.

My only issue was I requested a king room, and was told none were available and was given a queen instead. That and one of the days the people next door had a screaming infant. Not so good when trying to catch up on some sleep, but it's not like you can tell a baby to "shut up".

I stayed at the Marriott and for the most part it was ok.

The only problem I had was with the staff being snotty when I asked for 2 extra blankets. I guess they were just getting annoyed at the recurring request.

I also didn't like the fact that my bathroom didn't have a lock on it when I was rooming with all guys. It worked out alright with not incidents though because we had a rule "If the door is closed don't go in"

Here's a question.. to those of you who stayed at the Mariott... Did they not have extra blankets simply available in the room?  Or were you asking for extra beyond that?  The Hilton supplied extra, lots of extras, just in the closet.  Nice bonus.

Nope, we didn't have blankets in the closets. We had to ask the front for some and they sent a person up with them.

Stayed at the Sainte Claire and it was great. Fridge in the room, good shower, and nice beds.

We only had one problem...the people next door. One night out of the 3 we were there, the people next door had a huge party at 2am. We called the hotel desk and they sent people to break it up. 30 minutes later the people were back, so my roomie went down to the front desk. In the end the police had to be called because the people just wouldn't leave. So we lost a night of sleep, but the hotel dealt with the problem and we also got that night free.

So, I've heard lots of tips on how to get away with too many people. Did any of you, or do you know anyone who, got caught with too many people in their room? If so, what did the hotel do about it?

As a general rule you don't want to bend those kinds of limits. If you tell the hotel there are going to be 4 people and you have one extra head, they probably won't kill you...

But if you try to squeeze like, 8 people into one room it becomes a fire hazard and they can and will expel you from the premises. Not to mention that it makes a bad impression to the hotels what kind of people we (as anime fans) are. If the problems got too bad then the hotels would refuse to work with Fanime at all and we'd end up having to fend for ourselves instead of getting the sweet deals on the king beds and stuff that we do now.

Bottom line is: If there's an emergency and you have an extra head in your room, if you do get caught chances are the reprocussions won't be severe as long as you're honest. Let them know the person needed a place to crash and you can just pay the difference (which isn't much at all) but don't do any more than 5 in a 4 person room...you're just asking for trouble then. And if they catch on (which they probably will...7-8 people in a 4 person room is noticable to the cleaning staff) you can be in serious trouble.

Just some friendly advice.

Seriously a microwave would have been awesome for all the ramen I brought with me, since the damned coffee maker took forever to boil a small pot of water. I didn't have roomies for all 4 days, and I didn't realize I needed to have my actual credit card scanned by the hotel after reserving online. Suffice to say I ended up paying cash. Also the towels they provded were rather...small. No lock on shower, but fortunately no one ever walked in on me. I was like floor 14 or higher

Pros: A cool roomie who I'm looking forward to next year, who turned me onto Hard Gay. Comfortable beds. No noise from other rooms. Plenty of room to put my swag. I even got them to agree to a late checkout which helped immensely. Also I didn't have maids coming in and waking me up, or coming around at inopportune moments.

Which hotel did you stay at, Rei?

I'm staying at the Hilton this year, if the towels are that bad I'm gonna try to find room to stuff one of my own nice big soft bath sheets in one of my suitcases, if I've got room. ><''
