Big Event Showcase / Re: Cosplay Spectacular 2013

FYI to people: Staff turnover occurred this year for many departments, so sluggishness is going to result.  Email directly as recommended in this thread and someone will see and hopefully address your concern.

@DoLL - Yeah, the bottom half of Connor's costume would not pass the dress code.  Might I suggest a pair of nice loafer style dress shoes and cream colored slacks?  The rest should be okay -coat/long sleeve shirt.

@Skw3rlch4n - strapless dress is okay as long as it passes the skirt length test as described in the dress code.

@PurePlummet - Typical Viennese waltzes are 174-180 bpm.  If you're familiar with music, it is usually written in 6/8 time at a tempo of 29-30 measures per minute, although it is sometimes written as a fast 3/4 at 58-60 measures per minute.

Why we don't teach Viennese -

Travelling involves rotation.  Imagine a floor full of people rotating at different rates...and not necessarily looking where they are going.

The dress code is officially released!  Check it out here:

http://www.fanime.com/events-and-exhibits/events/black-white-ball/

Please make an effort to comply with the dress code - there IS an emphasis on enforcement this year.  If you have any questions please post them here to this thread and a staffer will try to get an answer for you.

That should be fine.

Is he wearing the vest over something, or only the vest?

If you are planning to do what le_momo says, be sure to show your legal shoes at the door and change into them before you get on the floor.  There will be rovers looking for dress code compliance during the Ball.

Just to clarify further, the heel height and nickel width rule applies to ALL shoes, including latin/salsa dance heels.  We prefer reducing the wear and tear on the floor and people who get accidentally stepped on.

Not commenting on your song specifically, but we've gotten a bunch of songs over the years that were more suited to a Viennese rather than a conventional box waltz.
#53
Yup, just sent an email.  Looking forward to hearing something back.

Will probably PM you this week about the BWBall section.
#55
Hoping that, considering the poll...

lol...given our druthers, we'd rather have the ballroom for the entire weekend.  We run a set of evening classes plus private lessons for Friday and Saturday evenings, and we may have a further surprise for Saturday evening for next year.

And can't have a poll with the irony vote showing up :).

I think what we were saying in class in the J is "Across from the Fairmont, ugly orange (burnt umber) building, walk around". :).  But yeah a map would be good.
