Hotel and Facilities / Re: Dang! You weren't kidding!
January 10, 2009, 08:28:19 PM
Last year the hotels were listed around the same time they were this year, and they went fast. I booked in February and got a room at the Crowne. I think it caught housing off guard last year and they had to add an additional hotel.  More and more people attend every year it seems.

Thats good about the stairs, I'd hate having to be stuck with the elevator all weekend.

Last year housing got another hotel to agree to convention prices and posted that up in March or April.

I can not stress parking enough! Make sure you have money for parking. Some of the hotels claim discounts for Fanime guests, but call your hotel and double check. Last year I stayed at the Crowne Plaza, where parking was supposed to be half off for Fanime guests. It was not. Any attempt to convince them of this, even showing the housing website where it was posted, had no effect. /rant

In short, have extra money for parking.

All the other advice thats been posted is very sound.

As for saving money, coins are still money. Hold on to that change you get back, and bring it to a CoinStar machine or straight to the bank. It can add up faster then you think.

Important question: Are the stairs at the Hilton fire escape only? The ones at the Crowne Plaza are fire escape only, and it was a real hassle since I'm not good with elevators.  My first year at Fanime I stayed at the Marriott and took the stairs the whole time (all the way up to the 24th floor) cause I get so dizzy in the elevators.

Registration / Re: single day badges
January 06, 2009, 05:50:51 PM
I don't have an official answer, but I believe it depends on what day you plan on going. Saturday is more expensive then Monday, since there is more going on. If I remember right either last year or the year before it ranged between $25 and $35. However registration went up by $5 this year, so maybe more like $30 - $40.

Again, this is based off of vague memory from previous years and a bit of assumption.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Cosplay Changing Room!!
January 06, 2009, 12:01:59 AM
Last year one of the clothing dealers had a pop up tent just big enough for a person to change in. Something like that would eliminate the threat of pervs or peeping toms. Setting up a booth in Artist Alley sounds like a good place for it. It might be good to promote the idea and see if anyone (artist or dealer) would be willing to host such a booth.

It seems more dates were added, cause I was just able to reserve the Hilton for Thursday to Monday. Thanks, I'll be canceling my reservation for the Marriott now.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Fanime scavenger hunt?
January 03, 2009, 10:27:50 AM
I actually played this game at con last year with my friends. We all thought of characters and made a list. At con we broke off into groups of two and took pictures with the characters we were looking for. One of your group had to be in the picture to prove that you found them. Having groups of two made that easier.

Since it was just a bunch of broke con friends we didnt have any prizes, but it was still lots of fun.

I know what you mean. I had my heart set on the Hilton as well, but when I saw how many hotels were booked up already I just grabbed a room at the Marriott.

This was suggested back on page 2, but I would like to have several bands that catered to all different tastes in music. An Cafe was wonderful and I'm sure many people came to Fanime just to see them, but I missed being introduced to new bands like the year before.

I really enjoyed Mothercoat. They were there in 06 I believe and they were so much fun. So much energy! Z Z also. I had to miss them last year cause I had so much to do on Thursday. Ramen and Rice always go over well with fans.

The biggest problem I had with the video rooms was with the volunteers either falling asleep or leaving the room. My best example was the showing of the Animal Crossing Movie. I really enjoyed the movie, but it was broken down in 4 different files, so every 15 minutes or so the subtitles would cut out and have to be turned on again. Not a problem except the volunteer running the projection had left. It was up to a fellow fan who had come to watch the movie to turn the subtitles back on.

I wanted to stay at the Hilton so bad this year, but Thursday doesn't seem to be available as a check in day. Did everyone grab it up already? I booked the Marriott so I could have a room connected, but I really had my heart set on the Hilton.

It could be that the hotel you are interested in is no longer available from Friday(22) to Monday(25). The Hilton for example is already all booked up on both Thursday(21) and Monday, so the only available days are Friday(22), Saturday(23), and Sunday(24).
