I was wondering when will registration begin for Fanime in 2016.
soon i hope we are almost in August!! ;D
You must be new around here ;). Welcome to the forums.
We don't have exact dates but we're working on bringing the system up for 2016. That being said, based on historical data, I wouldn't get my hopes up for an August launch.
Thanks,
when do you think the system will be up for 2016? ???
from history, the average is january from what i have seen
yeah but Registration and Housing for fanime2015 did open up in November... ;)
I think November is still too late. There should at least be a mention of 2016 by now.
I totally agree with you otakuya 100%!! 8) i hope we get a update soon!
It doesn't matter too much when con registration comes up, because Fanime doesn't run out of tickets. It matters a lot when housing registration comes up, because the hotel space fills up in about two hours.
yeah true but...you need to get your fanime ticket before the housing registration opens so you can get a hotel...
Technically you shouldn't need to register before you get a hotel, that was a mistake they made that anyone ha yet to acknowledge. I couldn't get a hotel online last year but I was able to get one over the phone.
this maybe a dumb question but... so how does the housing registration normally work? don't i need to get a fanime badge to get a fanime discount on the hotel ? :o
No. Well, you're not supposed to, but they messed it up last year. And it's not about getting a discount, it's about getting a hotel at all. All the Fanime hotels are currently reserved for fanime so if you tried to book one right now it'd be unavailable.
do you think we will get some kinda update soon? :)
we were able to get an announcement out about housing late last year (dont quote me, I am not 100% on this, nor do I speak from staff on this.) for this year's. so who knows, we may have an announcement at Q4 this year, or beginning of next year.
Let's look at the general history of registration announcements:
2015: November 2014
2014: February 2014
2013: January 2013
2012: January 2012
You can probably anticipate the announcement happening around the same timeframe of November-February. Subscribe to the Fanime Twitter or Facebook page if you would like to be updated on when they open registration. They're usually good about giving warning/heads up on social media. That way you won't have to keep checking back here for updates.
so fanime update the page to 2016! so does that mean the hostel will open up soon? :)

What page? Do you mean the little blurb at the top of fanime.com that says "Fanime will be on XX date at the San Jose Conventions center"? Because they haven't changed the site theme it's still the same as last year. And that is likely to happen before registration goes live. Really, sit tight it's still early yet. It is likely to happen either some time in November or after December. They aren't likely to put important stuff up when everyone would otherwise be preoccupied with holiday planning and such. Partially for the fans and partially so that their online help crew it's swamped during the holidays (at least that's what I would be thinking).
Here's a solution they do which would make everything easier... let people register NOW or at least a month after the convention. a lot of conventions have been doing that these days.
For whatever reason Fanime's price bracket isn't always consistent. It will usual go up from one year to the next. Theoretically this is money going to improve the convention and accommodate for the growing number of attendees. They have consistently added space to the venue (including part of the tech museum for the dance, the "blue tent" hall for swap meet, and moving panels over to the Fairmont). My guess would be that a considerable amount of planning and coordination need to go into this each year and that it would be difficult for them to get an accurate ticket price projection early on. They do offer at con pre-reg for next year at the cheapest price but usually a limited number of people go for this. They don't want to offer tickets at too low a price early on and then realize they will need a 20 - 30 % price hike to make up the difference.
