I'm 26/f staffer.. and in need of crash space. I'm dead broke as well. I'll be selling most of my anime and hope to have some money to pay a little bit.
If there is hope, please somebody help me. I'll end up sleeping in my car if I don't have a room.
This is for no one in particular, but it really needs to be stressed:
If your reservation is for X people, then there can only be X people in that room.
As far as I know, the most people you can put in a room is four.
Trying to put more than that into a room can get you kicked out of the hotel. It's happened before, and it's not something you want to happen in the middle of the con, now, do you?
Besides, there's some common sense reasons not to do so. Imagine if there were an earthquake, or a fire... would you want to push past 10 people to get out of the room? And if everyone is overfilling their rooms, you can imagine that the elevators, stairs, hot water, and internet are all going to be overused. Not to mention that the staff will be overtaxed - good luck getting fresh towels, or someone to unclog the toilet, or room service.
At the same time, it looks bad on Fanime when our members break the rules. A little bit here and there is to be expected, but when the hotels feel like Fanime and its members are scamming them, they'll make our lives more difficult by a) raising prices or b) kicking us out. We fans are stigmatized enough; we don't need to be labeled any further.
So, again, mind the rules... they're there for good reasons.

Actually, another note:
The hotel room is hotel property. The "Do Not Disturb" sign is essentially meaningless, because hotel staff can enter rooms essentially any time.So, if you're thinking, "Hey, I'll just put up the DND sign all weekend, and they'll never know what happened until I'm already gone!" then:
1. They can check inside pretty much any time, and the hotel will find out.
2. Fanime staff (like the hotel liason who reads this thread) must report these kinds of things. So if they read it here or overhear it at the con, the hotel will find out.
3. The hotel can get back at you in a number of ways. Like sending you a bill, or banning you from the hotel.
Just so you know. I really don't want to find out a bunch of members missed out on the convention because they got kicked out of their hotel room or something. Please, heed the warnings...

OK everyone this might be your lucky day! I have just recieved a very wonderfull email letting me know I have a room reserved for Friday, Saturday and Sunday! Unfortunatly after carefully reviewing my funds I don't think I will be able to afford it on my own. Or rather I could but I would have very little leftover for merch.
Soooooo... I am looking for a roommate, as soon as I can confirm a change in occupancy to two people.
Rules:
1. We will be splitting the room cost 50/50, $163 each for the entire weekend or $55 a night.
2. You will have to supply your own air mattress or pay for a roll out bed (if they charge for them).
3. I will be drinking. If you are under 21 you will not. Sorry I don't want to be arrested for supplying alcohol to a minor. If you are 21 I am more than happy to share, and if you bring some alcohol too I am even more willing to share!
4. If you snore I will hit you with a pillow until you stop. I am a light sleeper and I like my sleep. You wake me you get hit by a pillow. Dems da rules.
5. If you stink I will ask you to take a shower and put on deoderant. If you refuse you get kicked out.

Well just to answer your question on protocol it's usually a 4 person maximum in a room. And that's usually a double-double room (that is, 2 double beds) If you guys can fit usually 2 girls can fit on one double bed. However, often there are those who have to sleep on the floor. I would recommend requesting extra blankets and sheets early, and/or rollout beds if they're available.
Also, when you check in they do HOLD the money for the room all weekend until you check out, as well as (I think) 50 dollars/night for possible incidentals. So if you're staying for 3 nights plan on having the room total +150 being held from your account. One of my friends didn't realize that and if you don't have the money on your card to cover the incidental stuff, you don't check in...if you don't check in but you made reservations, they will charge you one night +tax anyways. (Although, if you don't have enough for three nights on your card you could probably end up staying 2 nights or something...)
So yeah, that's about standard stuff. 3 roomies in a double double to make a total of 4 people.
Don't listen to people who will try and convince you that cramming 8-12 people in a double double is cool. Yeah the price is ridiculously low, but it's both gross as well as incredible dangerous. When a hotel expects a certain maximum occupancy per floor in accordance to a fire escape drill and the actual number is 3X that, there are a lot of things that can go wrong and a lot of people could get hurt.
Besides that, you could get kicked out and fined heavily for doing that kind of thing. So stray from that as much as possible.
With 4 people in a double double you should expect to pay (for 3 nights: Friday, Saturday, Sunday) 400 with tax, so divide that by 4 and voila...100 per person or roughly 33 a night. Not bad eh?
So yeah, there's some info for ya. Hope it helps.

They base the number of sleepers on the number of Beds I think. If it's like a couch, and that's it then they probably would say that it fits 2 people. But if it's like a sofabed type thing then they might allow one more person to stay.

Ok, I am looking for a roommate. I'm a guy, and I love saving money so i'd like it to be a group of probably 4+ (can you even have more than 4?). I strongly prefer the Marriott. And while I want a good sized group i'm open to smaller groups. I'm mostly interested in Friday-Sunday nights. So, Fanime Con is coming up and stuff, and I'm trying to put together a room for myself and a couple friends. I always think the best part of cons are meeting new people, and sharing rooms and a junk is a great way to do that!
At the moment our goal is around $60 a person for the whole con! Sweet! Last year at Fanime Con it was only $50 and Anime Expo was $60, so it's not too much of a stretch! Of the people in the rooms at the moment everyone's pretty different... So there'll definitely be people you'll get along with!

While it may be fun at first, it turns out to be a total drag later on.

You need to find friends who take showers and aren't fucking lame, sorry, lots of people in a room != messy or unsanitary, and most hotels don't care at all. Take AX for example, the Marriott let me check in at 6am or a little earlier (super early, i didn't have to pay for that night), she asked how many keys i needed, i asked how many can i have, and she gave me 8...
I agree that one shouldn't parade around that you're breaking the rules, but i also disagree with your perception of hotel stringency.
