The revised policy for Lost and Found is in a new thread:
http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,12582.msg330389.html

If you have lost something, please do not post it on the forums, but following the directions in the thread.

Thanks.

Hello,

If you have lost something at the convention, there are a couple of resources to try.

During the convention, Lost and Found items were normally turned over to ConOps.
At the end of the convention, items that were not picked up have been turned over to the Lost and Found team.

  • If you have lost something of interest, like a camera or ipod or phone or wallet, contact us at [email protected], with all the details that you can provide.  In particular, if you can give the color, model, etc. that would be helpful.  If it was a camera or a wallet, maybe describe some of the pictures inside of it.  This helps us get to a unique identification.
  • If you have part of a costume, contact us at [email protected].  Please be sure to describe the item in question as best as you can.

    • If you can find a picture of a similar item online, please include that with your report.  We can use that as a reference picture.
    • Please assume that we don't know anything about anime.  If you write "I lost something, it looks like Orihime's necklace"; that will not be helpful.
  • As a last resort, if you lost something in your hotel room, you may want to contact the hotel's lost and found department directly.

If you are local, we will try to directly deliver the items.  If you are further away, we'll see if we can mail them out.

I cannot respond to lost and found reports in the thread or via PM; you will need to email them.
If you have questions about Lost and Found, you can reply here.

Sincerely,
Lost and Found team
FanimeCon 2009, [email protected]

(p.s. if you are going to any cons in the future, put a little "this backpack belongs to J. Smith, 123 Main Street, Anytown, CA" card in one of the pockets.  We get a lot of backpacks, purses, and luggage that can't be traced).

Or get me to drink too much alcohol in one night, including a "tiebreaker round",
and watch me throw up in someone's apartment.

Oh, snap, this one should've included a hidden message like the other posts..

uh...

Congrats to Liquid for having the closest guess.
Actually, it was in an earlier thread, but it's pretty close.
That one thread of GIR's has been merged into this forum.
Unless I see something else huge, that is probably the only thread that will be merged before con.
Really, I'm glad you guys have been pretty mature about this
Don't let the secrecy of the upcoming plans fool you, though.
And with that, I need to get back to writing.
Y'all are pretty cool, remember

If you are reading the above guide, you have time to think and plan.

Acceptable: choosing between local restaurants to find meals that fit your budget.
Acceptable: bringing healthy and diverse food to Fanime, to avoid restaurant/con prices.

Kinda not acceptable: declaring that you'll only live on rice and ramen for four days.
Not acceptable: skipping meals, starving yourself.
Not acceptable: not drinking enough water.

We get a number of people every season who pass out because of lack of food, lack of water.  Don't do that.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Feedback Topic?

Don't create feedback threads unless you actually have feedback to give.

Thread locked; please create a new thread at the appropriate hour.

I am wondering, what is the border line between just looking at a girl and 'checking her out'?
It's at the shoulders. Stay north. ;D

Quote from: daiphyer.com on May 16, 2009, 06:13:14 PM...niether do I want to deprive myself the pleasure of looking at girls.
I would direct your attention to a number of magazines and websites that are specifically designed with this in mind.  :P

There are more nuanced answers, but-and I say this with all due respect-much like a firearm, if you have to ask how it works, you're not yet ready to wield it...

One which I think didn't have to be erased because of the other.

Did I say they were erased?
Everyone thinks they're gone forever, but it's simply not true.
Never would I really up and delete things that I thought had redeeming value.
Then again, there was a lot that was pretty negative
After the convention, you'll see some more of my plans
Look around, you may already see hints of those plans in this very thread.

Perhaps I'll should say more now.  But cryptic is fun.
Lately, I've been focused on other stuff, so I can't devote as much energy into managing the drama.
Although if there was a magical way to get rid of drama, I'd do it.
Nevertheless, just relax and focus on the con.  The forums will continue to be their random place in due time

It was completely a volcano.
There was activity right next to byo/b/ for months.

Well, as the for the future, it's hard to say.
It probably won't ever come back in its raw form.
Looking over the posts, it's hard to really justify the hateful parts of it.
Lest we forget, a lot of people do visit these forums.

Really, it comes down to the amount of oversight I'd need to do, and I got a lot of reports from byo/b/
Even if I felt that it would be safe enough to have another byo/b/, the idea doesn't sit too well.
Though, it would be strange to at least not preserve the caturday pictures.
Unmoderated forums are just too risky to have.
Rules are there for a reason; to keep things from getting out of control.
Next time I work on the forums, I'll have to think longer about the rules in place.

Ruins of byo/b/ / It's gone...
May 16, 2009, 11:02:36 PM
Uh oh.

It seems that low level sea disturbance was, in fact, a volcano.
It's erupted pretty strongly in the area, and neighboring boards have been affected.

Things in the Universe is on fire, but it should return to normal soon..

But byo/b/ took the brunt of damage.  All those flaming threads added to the carnage,
and the whole thing quickly became covered in volcanic ash.

It's like it never existed at all.  Maybe one day, someone will be able to dig out the older threads of byo/b/
Or maybe all of its drama will be forever lost to history.

Will anyone be able to rebuild over that territory? Time will tell.

Role Models - I'm like Danny in the movie I possess a constant negative attitude towards life.

I don't think you understand the point of this sub forum.

We've been using this same thread since 2006 and it's getting a little hard to track all the requests.

Mods, please lock this thread. A new procedure for open mic song requests will be announced shortly.

Locking for now.  See you in a bit!

I really just like the word "varmint".
I think it should be used a lot more online.

*clap* *clap*

Okay, I'm creating a happy place for people  Hooray.

Basic rules:

  • There is nothing considered "off-topic", although Fanime-convention related activities should probably go to the upper parts of the boards.
  • Mean, unkind, and insulting behavior will get an automatically one week exile.  You can disagree, you can be stupid, you can be an idiot, but you can't cross the line and flame them.  Sorry.
  • No actual swearing (in avatars, signatures, or posts) is allowed.  I'm lowering the threshold to "Whatever can be said by Yosemite Sam" in terms of permitted swear words.

If these rules work for you, welcome.

If they don't, please try out a different area.

Best,
sysadmin.

Gaming / Re: OneChanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad
February 11, 2009, 01:03:29 AM
See all, PyronIkari is a total douchebag, but he did give the correct answer in his reply: the overall series is Oneechanbara Vortex.
This thread has both idiocy (total search time: 2 seconds on Wikipedia), idiocy (replies missing the point), and douchebaggery (PyronIkari, you'll get your stuff in due time).

Back on topic:

Oneechanbara Vortex is an older series in Japan, but we don't live in Japan.

Two games were released in the US just this week: "OneChanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad" and "OneChanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers" (yes, these names are terrible, and, no, they weren't like that in Japan).
It probably would been more constructive to put the US versions of the games in the OP.

Anyway, it's a hack-and-slash game with bikinis.  I suppose it'll appeal to some and not appeal to others.  GamePro.com and the usual crew have reviews, I reckon.

And with actual useful content, I'll unlock the thread.

If I have to relock this thread for idiocy again, I swear I'll start swinging banhammers and cluebats..

Buy/Sell/Trade / Re: Rules for this forum.
February 10, 2009, 11:52:45 PM
Also, any form of scamming (either buyer or seller) will warrant a permanent ban from these forums.

Further action after that is also possible.

Come on, this is a new forum.  Let the honest people have a chance first.

#78
It's announced.  So, let's open this thread again.

I don't know who Jun or even you are. All I know is that, I voiced my opinion, and like a communist government, I was shot down.
And for that... you too get some smileys!
:D :D :D

(User was exiled to byo/b/ for this post)

Hi.  I'm the sysadmin.  I ban people when they act like a total douche.  Please enjoy your 36-hour break from the forums.

To contribute, as for anime I want brought to the states, clearly, the answer is School Days.
Or Popotan.

FanficGuru, can you ping me, regarding this thread?

There's a couple things that need to change before I can unlock.

Thanks,
