Thank you all for your requests! We'll listen to them and see what we can include in the playlist this year!

Only a few more weeks until con! If you have any music requests, please post them or email them to us as soon as possible! We finalize the playlist before con, so the sooner the better! :)

Ultimately I don't think the black and white ball attire really matters. It seems it always starts off with strict rules regarding attire and as the night goes on people in storm trooper costumes, brightly covered cosplay, or large prop items get allowed in eventually.

All cosplay that fits within the dress code is allowed. Uniformed cosplay like the storm trooper (I clearly remember the storm trooper wearing a button-up under the chest piece and a tie/bowtie over the uniform) are therefore allowed. We have no restrictions on colors, either, so brightly colored cosplay within the dress code guidelines are permitted.

Large props are also allowed if they are not weapons as long as they are not on the dance floor. Most of the large props we have had at the Ball include large walking staffs or wings, which are typically set at the table/chair the person is using, anyway. We have had people try to bring weapon props in the past, but they have never been allowed and have never gotten passed the dress code check.

Thank you for your feedback! We will do our best to make sure that the dress code applies to everyone equally throughout the evening to ensure the formality of the event. :)

Hello, everyone!

Every year, the Black and White Ball staff works as hard as they possibly can to learn and grow from the feedback and different experiences we have received. One of the positive things that we have been hearing was about the improvement of the playlist year by year. This is not because we have minions running around trying to read your minds to find out what songs will be perfect to play. This is because those who attend actually have an input on the playlist itself!

We would like to get a head start on finding out what you, your friends, or anyone thinking about attending the Black and White Ball would love to hear and dance to! For those who may not exactly remember what they liked or didn't like about the previous playlists, feel free to look through the playlists of previous years below.

Now, here are some things you should know about the playlist:

The playlist is generally a compilation of suggestions from the forums, social media outlets, and word of mouth. The Black and White Ball staff will look through the suggestions to look for songs that have a steady beat to dance to and fit with the type of dances being held during the event. We also check the lyrics (if there are any) to make sure that they are appropriate for all ages as there is no age restriction at the event itself.

While not all songs will be liked by everyone, we try our best to come up with a good variety of music for the various dance styles that will be taught during the weekend. The staff then has to ensure that the sound levels are correct, the tempo is right, and possibly cut some of them for length. This is a lot of work given how long the event is, which is why we have the playlist completed usually around the beginning of May. Because of this, we will be unable to take requests at the Ball itself.

Generally, we have found that the last few weeks leading up to the Black and White Ball sees an overload of requests and suggestions. Unfortunately, we are unable to include a good portion of those songs because it was so close to the event. That is why we're starting extra early for next year!

We would also appreciate it if you could link a video or audio clip of the song you're requesting. It isn't required, but it does help us make sure that we are looking at the correct song.

So what does that mean for you? You should get your requests in early!

This is YOUR chance to give input on what you would like to hear at the Black and White Ball!

We appreciate and look at all suggestions, but please remember that, while you may make a request, the Black and White Ball staff has the final say as to what becomes part of the playlist. If you feel strongly about your request, please say so and provide support for it. We are looking for all types of music from pop, jpop, kpop, anime, video game, etc. so don't be afraid to offer up any suggestions that you may have, even if you're not sure if it's suitable.

You may also email us your requests at [email protected]! If you choose to email us, please include "Music Request" or "Playlist Suggestion" in the title so we can keep track of it accordingly.

We look forward to hearing your suggestions!

Thank you!

Once my staffer who was in charge of the playlist updates our spreadsheet, it will be posted! This should be within the next couple days at the latest. We had some changes during ball to accommodate the mixers, so we wanted to make sure it was as accurate as possible before putting it up.

Thank you for your patience! :)

  • A wheel chair/disabled section for exhibitions at the black and white ball.
Reason: It was nearly impossible to be able to see the exhibition. Further a person in a wheel chair was asked by an attendee to leave the dance because 'the chair is a hazard'.
  • Adaptive dance lessons for the black and white ball.
Reason: Wheel chair bound attendees want to be able to dance too.

We already have adaptive lessons in the works for next year thanks to a couple amazing staffers who got certified for it this year! :)

Having a special section during the demonstrations is a wonderful idea. I'll make a note of it and see how we can do that for future years! I did hear about that unfortunate situation from my staff who handled it, so we will be taking extra measures to make the Ball accessible to absolutely everyone.

Thank you for your feedback!

If I'm not in the right place, please redirect me!
For those of us who want to dance but can't tell a cha-cha from a Viennese waltz, will there be any indication before/during the ball as to which style can be used for each song?

What echoshadow said is correct. We have "dance cards" at the sound table that state what dance is intended for the song playing. It is definitely not a requirement, though! :) Many people do the dances they know to whatever is playing that they can make work, so there tends to be a fun variety of dances on the floor despite what dance we have a song set for.

And thank you all for your requests! We are looking through and finalizing our requests now!

Feel free to keep requesting music, though! Whatever doesn't get used this year gets put on the top of the list for requests for next year!

Thank you all for your requests!

We're currently going through all of them to see what can be added into our playlist! :D
Whatever does not get added for this year will still be recorded to see if we can use them for next year, as well!

We have maybe a few days left to request songs for this year's Black & White Ball! Request away!

So, some stuff got misprinted in the pocket schedule and rather than trying to complicate things, the lesson schedule is going to be the same as the pocket guide.

So on Friday:

8-9PM - Argentine Tango

1) Will i be able to wear a dress above my knee caps if i wear sheers?
2) im going in formal cosplay, will i be allowed to wear my gun holster?
3) would a single, fingerless glove fit the 'gloves' category?

Unfortunately, there are no exceptions for skirts/dresses above the knee caps. A dress/skirt that goes above it will not be allowed.

As long as a gun prop is not in said holster, yes it will be fine to wear.

Yes, a single glove is perfectly fine! :)
