As a first timer...uh...where do we sign up? Will the main page of the Fanime webpage have a link or do we need to sign up here in forums? I just want to know before hand so I don't have to dance around for a few precious minutes before finding the right page.

I don't know the answer to your question since I don't know much about Swap Meet, but if you have to choose, would it be possible to split up your group? Like, have the Reg Group leader stand in line (with a friend maybe for moral support) to get the badges while the rest of the group stand in line for Swap Meet?

Of course, if by "group" you mean a bunch of individual reservations where everyone has to be present to pick up their badge, then never mind. ^^;
Unfortunately that isn't a possibility in my case. I am a group leader for my husband and I but the rest of my group (3 of us) is on their own. Splitting up would mean 1 of us would lose out on early registration pick up.

Does anyone know if we have to choose either or? This is quickly becoming a real problem for my group

Okay I tried asking this in the main Swap meet thread and still haven't been answered so here goes...

I have a question. I've never participated in the swap meet as a seller but was thinking of doing so this year, however I confess I've never understood the reason for lining up outside the swap meet room early if you already signed up for it. I was wondering if anyone could explain the significance of signing up as soon as registration is open but having to rush to line up on Thursday night. I understand you should be in attendance seeing as you signed up and will need to have your merchandise ready to bring in the room, but is getting there early or later a determination as to the order you get in? I only ask because my group is devout in getting to Fanime early Thursday morning so we can line up for early registration, will I be forced to choose one over the other?

be sure that although you may sit on it, it is not obstructive.
I was planning on bringing either tiny lawn chairs or pillows. So as long as it sticks within the taped lines & can be easily picked up should the lines move, that would be okay?

Registration / Portable chairs etc... for Day 0 line
February 29, 2012, 10:26:06 PM
I was just wondering since I haven't tried bringing any before (but have seen others do so), what is the word on bringing either small blow up chairs, lawn chairs or even pillows? I've seen all manner of Boom boxes, body pillows, blankets, laptops and even games systems...but I want to make sure what I bring is allowed cuz I don't want to lug it all the way there and have to take it back up to the hotel room. My group shows up very early on Day 0 (sometimes as early as 10:30...and before ppl start saying "I GET THERE AT 8!!!!!!! RAWR RAWR!!!" I am very aware some people do so hahaha. ;D) and by the time the line starts moving...I feel like my tail bone has worked its way completely out of my butt...among other things. So, what is and is not allowed during the wait for Day 0 badge pick up?

WOW many thanks to both of you! More help than I ever could have asked for. And don't worry yotsuba I'll have my husband (who is rather scary looking at 6 '2'') and our mutual friend Major Danger (also tall and manly lol) at my disposal. If 3 are not allowed on the spot I'll just have to choose one of the other while the other searches for treasures at other sellers.

It is very nice knowing the prices for the spots seem reasonable and I'll probably make enough to earn that money back and more. As you would expect I have MILLIONS of manga and MILLIONS of anime. I'm not going to ask for prices that are silly, why pay full price for used anime when you can purchase brand new anime that may very well be in a prettier box set? Lol. Doesn't make sense. A lot of what I'll be selling is like I said before, recycled items. NOT TRASH! Definately not trash, just duplicates of what I already own and full series of manga or anime that I no longer care for seeing as I may have moved onto further anime horizons....lol. I don't care about being low balled too much, obviously if someone shows up and asks "can I have everything here for $1?" I may be a trifle miffed, but hardly angry enough to have lasting scars.

Lastly I'll be shooting for just Thursday to sell seeing as my husband and friend Major may very well gutt me if we aren't enjoying the majority of what Fanime has to offer on Friday.

And again MANY THANKS to you two! I'll be referring back to this thread for many days to come. lol

Thank you! How informative lol. I didn't even think to worry about "people" as you referred to them. That's more than a little concerning.  :-\ Jeez some people. Well in any case could you tell me how you get a wall space? I've already done pre-registering for the convention itself, but is that what you are refering to?

Hello! I checked this forum with the search option and have only seen the thread regarding what you'll be selling at the swap meet. I have a different inquiry:

I've been interested in participating in the Swap Meet for a few years now. For some reason I tend to be the "recycle bin" for most of my friends and family when it comes to Anime, Manga, Video games etc...I've never taken part in the Swap Meet other than to visit the vendors there and purchase items I wanted. Could anyone that has participated in the Swap Meet give me an idea of what it is like? I'm aware there may be a certain amount of stress involved so I'm ready for that, but I was wondering about times, dates etc...I know that Fanime will probably post information on the actual website soon, but I've got a friend who lives in San Jose who will be driving up to my home town next week and it would be lovely if I could say for certain we'll be participating because I have SO MUCH to bring; can't fit it on Amtrack on my way down there.

So please, let me know some of your experiences as sellers and what tips could you provide so its a seamless transaction for both parties when I sell my items. Thank you!

Hotel and Facilities / Re: How much warning?

I have Twitter and FB text my phone whenever Fanime updates. Got a room the moment it was put online last year.

I do recall a notice was put out on when the page would be opened for hotel registration several hours before it was available. Though I thought it was weird that they used FB to tell people it'll be posted on Twitter, which is the only reason why I have a Twitter account.
And that's what I'm worried about. I refuse to have a facebook *shakes her fist at the powers that be "NEVER AGAIN!!!"* and I have absolutely no idea how to work twitter.  :P

Well that's certainly a load off. I just feared w/ Twitter and smart phones w/ their constant instant updates would take presidence to the website itself. Don't know why lol

We added the Coming Soon to the images because there was some confusion with people thinking the links were broken. I added it simply to remove confusion not because I had received information regarding when Hotel registration will go up.
Oh well that definately does help certainly. I was still just wondering about the warning. In your experience how much time are you given prior to the actual hotel registration opens up? If you don't mind me asking.  :-[

: c This year was fun but what I didn't care for most was the fact that the masquerade and b&w ball were on the same night. I was used to masquerade being sat and b&w ball being sunday and I thought that was a good schedule so I had planned accordingly until I found out they were the same night. Not that it was an inconvience it was just weird that they lumped them together and I had to hoof it to my hotel and change really quick to get to the dance lol.

Anywho along with not having schedules (those things are valuable resources XP ) that's about all that was wrong with this con but still awesome (got to meet my long distance bf at this con to chyeaaaaaaaaaah ;D )
Actually, I'll have to agree with this as well. I disliked the Masquerade on Sunday rather than Saturday. It just felt odd being on Sunday.

Hotel and Facilities / How much warning?
December 05, 2011, 09:07:00 PM
I was just wondering if anyone knows how much warning we will get before the hotels open? I was VERY lucky last year to log on to the Fanime Forums mere hours before they opened the hotel registrations. Now that the website shows both the registration for fanime and hotel rooms with large red "coming soon" signs, I'm becoming more paranoid. I know the powers that be are working very hard at this and I am only one in many, but I was just hoping that someone knows how much of a heads up we were given last year since I just happened upon it by accident? Will it be the same this year?

I wish we were made aware of a specific date for pre-reg. I would also thoroughly enjoy it if the staff updated the site to 2012. xD
My biggest fear is missing out on the first 15 minutes when the hotels open as well. A post on the fanime Facebook page states all registrations regarding fanime are in the works, so does that mean they will all go up at once? Pre-registration is now unfortunately a source of stress in my household.  :'(

Last year, the Hilton filled up within 3 hours after the site went up last January. So your fear is not unwarranted.

As for Pre-Reg, I'm in a similar boat, only with my anime club. Traditionally, most of the people in my club give me the money, and I register them under my group. They keep asking me when Pre-Reg is going up, and I keep having to tell them that I have no idea, but as soon as I know anything, I'll let them know so they can get me the money.
Wow we are actually in the same boat lol. I just hope we get at least a weeks notice before pre-reg opens.

I've only gone to Fanime by car or Amtrack. Amtrack is actually very nice. A lot of people from Fanime usually all sit in one car to reduce the amount of staring considering most people are wearing certain articles of clothing that can't be packed. As for the bus, I've been on some on long distance trips and they seem fine. Make friends with the driver if you can and sit in the first 3 rows, sometimes the bathroom (if there is one on the bus) will start to stink after awhile. Other than that, good luck! ^_^

I would comment on the schedules but there is no use beating the dead horse so I'll just let that one go.

Oddly enough I would say the worst part for me was the Protestors this year. I know that Fanime tried their best to keep all the young kids away from them who think it's funny to anger them (but that just gives them more reason to stay) and to even bring in that large truck to block them off...which honestly was an AMAZING idea. I know that Fanime has only so many rovers and wonderful volunteers to go around so they are doing the best they can, but these people are rediculious. I know there are rights to free speech but this year they went way out of line saying that Japan deserved the Tsunami and such. I have been going crazy trying to find noise violation codes for San Jose ever since then and that megaphone they use should be considered one. I don't care if they are screaming "free ice cream", just get that thing out of my ear.  :'(

edit: and this may sound odd considering I'm extending concern towards them, but the guy that uses that megaphone is always SO RED from stress and angst, that guy is going to have a stroke one of these days.
