Based on my models, I expect that the time to shuttle to and from Clockwork plus their wait time will be more than the max line wait after we open. We have scaled the two registration systems based on the sizes of the conventions, and there is a real risk we'll overrun Clockwork. This will have the nasty side effect that we'll run out of Clockwork badges (they'll have to switch to Fanime artwork), and that will make our steam punk friends sad.

Reality can and will differ from my models, but if it were me I'd reg at the con I intend to attend.

Registration / Re: Online vs At the con

I was wondering whether if it's better to pay online or at the convention. Which line is usually longer?

Please register online. It is at least twice as fast for our stations (~30 seconds vs > 1 minute in testing), and more people registering online lets us shift more of our resources to the online flow, which will make that line faster.

A station that can accept payment is just a pre-paid station with more equipment, so we can dynamically rescale the two sides according to demand (they're in a row next to each other, so it's just like switching the directions of toll lanes on a highway).

(These numbers are based on testing, your mileage may vary, and we will rescale sides at our discretion, etc...)

Hopefully the fancy printers are fast printers.
Fauncy!!

Each fancy printer can print a badge every 7 seconds, and we have 18 fancy printers for Fanime Reg.

That's 9257 badges per hour!

The slow part is moving people, QR codes and IDs.

In our largest test so far, we were able to do about 30 seconds per pre-paid transaction, and we hope to have about 20 stations open on Thursday. However, these are just test numbers, and there are many things that could go wrong during the actual event.

Remember that online reg is available throughout con this year. Badge availability is posted on r.fanime.com under "Online Registration Times".

Got it this morning. Will you need a printed postcard or will just showing it on my phone be enough?

I asked in the Reg FAQ thread a while back and phone will be enough.

Phones will work if you have them at maximum brightness, but I've found the scanners are more reliable with printed QR codes.

Please print if you can.
