Sorry if this is super last minute. Classic college/school problem of "printer not working when it is needed most" happened.

In my past years of Fanime, I'd always print out my receipt/email and along with my ID, got my badge as needed. I was wondering if I could show my e-postcard from my iPhone and show my ID along with it? I've seen others in other cons do it, but I'm not sure how the policy is for Fanime.

In the event that it doesn't scan for some reason, would they be able to enter those random letters and numbers on top of the QR Code in order to "activate" my ticket?

For the past few years, I've been making these threads about your FanimeCon experiences and thought I'd continue with 2012!

I always felt that at Fanime, that I'm behind the times on the otaku pop culture. Sometimes I stare at Stage Zero and as much as I would love to participate, I always feel like that I'm going to fail bad because I haven't watched a specific anime or read a specific manga. Every year that I attend Fanime, it seems to re invigorate the anime loving person in me and I always feel inspired to get more into anime, but at the same time I'm not sure where to start. So, I need some help from people here! I'd post in the designated recommendation topic but that seems like some place I'd be lost in.

http://myanimelist.net/animelist/KupoDREAM

There's my animelist profile. It will probably make the super anime fan be like "What the f*** is this?" But I got no shame and I'm looking to improve my palette. It's not completely updated as I have yet to add some more to the list, but judging from that list. You could say that I've seen many mainstream stuff. I also had some stuff that were not mainstream.

Started a yearly thread where I ask others what they dislike about the FanimeCon experience. Might as well start a new thread asking what they like about the Fanime Experience to bring some more positivity to this place!

Same drill as last year. Only difference is that I've changed "FanimeCon" to "FanimeCon Experience" in order to broaden the choices and to define the fact that we're talking about stuff that we don't like throughout the FanimeCon experience rather than just FanimeCon itself because there are stuff outside of their control we may not like. Also nearly doubled the choices since the last thread.

Remember, there should be a thread to voice your complaints for the staff to see. Also, try not to argue on this thread so that it doesn't get locked! :)

1 - I don't feel anything. After FanimeCon, I went back to the daily grind of my life with virtually no problems.
2 - I slightly miss Fanime. After FanimeCon, I was depressed on the last moments before leaving and going home was weird for a moment. But I'll get over it within a few hours/days.
3 - Sigh. For the next 2-4 days, It will be somewhat depressing. But I'm gradually returning to my regular life.
4 - Sad. I had such a good time at Fanime, I'm going to miss the experience. The following 5-7 days, I'll probably be thinking about it until I slowly transition back to regular life.
5 - Super Sad/Depressed. I miss Fanime and I seriously cannot wait until next year. Everything remotely reminds me of Fanime. It will take weeks for me to get over it.

Also if you want, you can explain why you chose that specific number.

I don't see a lost and found section in the forum, so hopefully this is the right place to post it. It's also better since this sub forum is also one of the most frequented I think, so hopefully one of the readers has more information.

Had a pretty good experience at Fanime until the end had to be ruined for me. So I ventured to Stage Zero at around 2-2:30pmish after eating some lunch and watched the festivities. I walked in to a game where they played rock, paper, scissors and try to hit each other with a plastic inflatable hammer. I had a plastic bag which had stuff I bought at the Artist Alley. Once Rob Miles, the guy who works for Sega was on stage. He offered more prizes which are his video games. For some odd reason, I thought he was going to throw it to us (despite looking back, that would've been bad.) Anyway, assuming that, I put my bag under my chair and waited. Then we eventually moved on to trivia and then I got intrigued and tried my hardest to remember information about Fanime in general to get a prize. Anyway, after the hosts said thanks and ended, they started to dance to Barbra Streisand by Duck Sauce. So I walked towards the left side of Stage Zero towards the stairs and then before I walked down, I realized I left my bag, so I walked back to my seat and found out it was empty. I was panicking and asking people but to no avail. I asked people at the Info Booth near Stage Zero, they said no. I asked some people walking backstage of Stage Zero, they said no. I went to ConOps and they said no and they recommended emailing Fanime at their lost and found address. I walked to the front desk inside the entrance of the convention, they said no. I circled the path from Stage Zero, downstairs at the convention center, up the escalator at the Marriott, and through the second floor at the left side of the convention center where the Mariott's entrance connected. Kinda looked like an idiot because some people were eyeballing me oddly. Nothing.

Got pretty mad, sad and depressed. But I've maintained my composure. I just hope that it won't taint my Fanime experience because I don't want to weigh on my mind. But that bag had stuff I spent over $100 on. Yes, I'll admit it's my fault that I made such a dumb move by carelessly leaving it there. Let's get that out of the way. But yeah. I don't know what to make of this. Did some heartless person steal it? Did someone find it and decided to return it? Did the "wind" just blow it? I'm not sure. I highly doubt someone's going to return a bag with valuable art in it, but I'm going to remain optimistic and just do what I can to hopefully reunite with it. I already tweeted about it using the #FanimeCon hashtag in hopes that someone will read it. I will also send my email soon.

For now, I'll be vague just in case and just say that there are prints (from the siblings that sell those cool prints of their artwork from games/anime) and buttons in the bag. Not going to describe them any further in public unless I feel that it's necessary. Definitely going to describe them in detail on an email.

But yeah, it's a long shot. But it's better than nothing I suppose. Worth a shot.

EDIT: Was wearing a yellow and white striped sweater. I initially sat in the back row. But then moved to the second row to the front on the right side, so I'm near that guy with the glasses that was doing work for Stage Zero on the laptop. Think his name was Sean or something, idk. . I know when I moved to the second row, I had my bag still.

Artist Alley and Dealers Hall has been closing at 7pm this year. It feels like it's way too early.

I think last year they were closing at 9 or 10. Any reason why it's been closing early?

Issues as in stuff that just come with staying at a hotel. Especially crowded ones during Fanime. (ex. Elevator Traffic, Roomates having bad hygiene, pooing, etc This is more of a casual community conversation rather than a "complaints" thread.

For me, Elevator Traffic would depend on the hotel. I stayed at the Fairmont my first year and the Marriot for the past two years. For the fairmont, it's generally okay since it's one of the farthest ones from the con. So far, I haven't really had any complaints on waiting. The Marriot, being the closest one is obviously known for the long elevator waits. My general rule of thumb for me and my mates is that we'd use the stairs if it's at least floors 1-6ish. Otherwise, we'd just survive the wait.

Pooing issues. To try to maintain a serious tone may be a general problem depending on how comfortable you are. Usually, to be polite. I'd usually go when people are off strolling around the convention or at night when many people are asleep. But if I have to go real bad, then I would just go.

Marriot Bathrooms. For people who haven't stayed at the Marriot, one of the biggest things that stray people off is the bathrooms. There's no locks on the bathrooms, which when I initially stayed there my first time, I naturally had that suspicious and paranoid vibe. But eventually I got comfortable because my group just trusted each other. We made a pact not to joke around. That it's some sacred area. No jokes, no pranks, nothing eff'd up. We used one of the clothe hangers to signal that it's occupied.

Food. Some people are freeloaders, some people are polite. It's natural with the group. Despite bringing my share for the group, I always tend to have my own secret stash just in case of emergency.

Anyway, that's some of mine. Anything interesting you guys experience in the hotel that you remedy?

My friend was wondering if there was a price increase after Early Reg closes because she might not be able to have the money by the 15th to register, so she'll most likely go to the con itself to register.

Right now it's $65 and I was wondering if it increases after Early Reg ends. I'd assume that the price is still the same and that the only difference is that you'd have to wait longer in the center itself to register.

#12
Damn. I hope that Early Reg would mean that I would still get a badge. An actual badge, not the ones you get if you registered on site.

Fanime Registration slipped my mind until today when I purchased a ticket today for WonderCon this weekend.

I wonder if it's still possible to register and get an actual badge. I want the regular badge so bad as a collector's sort of deal. I mean, I'll still go to Fanime regardless, but if it's still possible, I'd LOVE to be able to get a badge.

Please tell me there's hope! I'm optimistically hoping that this is April Fools joke and that there's an extension, but that's wishful thinking.

But if Early Reg can still land you the actual badge, then ummm... disregard this.

Ideas and Suggestions / Fanime Online Shop?
February 24, 2011, 03:33:40 PM
Should Fanime have an Online Shop on it's website?

The past two years, I've noticed there's always a stand near the Arcade/Artist Alley where they sell Fanime branded merchandise such as T-Shirts, Sweaters, etc. I walked by and I was interested since it was 2010. 2010 was significant because I graduated from High School. It was also the last year the Fanime Experience with all my friends was probably gonna be because some of them are out in the army or go to faraway colleges. But back to the Fanime Stand, I was interested in a sweater, but it was pricey. About $30-40. I guess that's normal, but I'd rather spend on something else and buy the sweater later in the year. But I eventually gave in and bought a sweater with my friend.

This made me think that Fanime should have an online store. Filled with Fanime Merchandise such as T-Shirts, Sweaters, Lanyards, Artbooks, Posters, etc.

You'd make money throughout the year from merchandise and it's convenient for people who'd rather buy it later in the year. It's also convenient for people to buy in anticipation of Fanime as well. There's many sites you can use such as ebay or bigcartel or any other online store service. Maybe you can start out small by having someone sell Fanime Shirts and use good ol' Paypal.

What do you guys think?

There must be something you don't like about the convention, but what is the most irritating thing that you really don't like this year at FanimeCon 2010?

Video Programming / Anime Hell
June 02, 2010, 12:35:53 AM
I was wondering If there was any way I can watch any clips/videos from Anime Hell. There are some clips that cracked me up that I'd like to re-watch and show friends and I was wondering If there's a place where it's uploaded. One clip I'm looking in particular is when there was a penguin that knocked over a trash can in what it looks like to be a dream sequence because it was white and heavenly. Anyway, after that the Lion King song starts playing which made it funny.

NOTE TO MODS: If this is in the wrong place, you're free to move it to the correct place.
NOTE TO FORUMERS: Sorry for the WALL OF TEXT. D: Read at your own will! (y)

Hi, this is going to be a review of Fanime 2009! This was my first Fanime, first anime convention, and first convention of any kind. I'll be critiquing it on a personal level. So basically it's like a review/blog/journal entry type thing. For those who don't want to hear my life story of Fanime Weekend, I decided to add a Spoiler Tag. You can go all the way down to my conclusion/review.

Sorry but you are not allowed to view spoiler contents.

After Fanime was officially over, I looked around and looked at the emptiness. The once filled with fans, cosplayers, and others, was turned into a ghost town. The exhibit rooms that was filled with people with a lot of money was also empty. Even the front was dwindling down to maybe 10-15 people? Anyway I got picked up by my Dad and thought "Fanime.. come back! Wahh!". I passed by my local theatre because had to pick up something at a store and on of the movies I saw was "Level Zero" and immediately thought "Stage Zero" I then looked at my bed, knowing that once I fall asleep from my dream, I'll wake up back into reality. Back into homework, parents, tests, stress, etc. *sigh*, back to normal life. The only thing I looked forward was the fact I had a normal sleep.. on some days.. >_> (damn procrastination)

To conclude, Fanime was a really nice and fun experience and it was worth the $55 (along with my other expenses.). To be honest it rekindled the Anime fan within me as before I went there I was just an occasional watcher and watched stuff like Prince of Tennis and a few others. Now that I experienced it, I want to start watching anime again, learn how to draw again, and get back into the community.

Money-wise, I spent my whole budget. I was planning to save a few dollars, but I got out of control, haha. I spent it on food such as the Taqueria, Johnny Rockets, and Hydration. I also bought stuff mostly from Artist Alley such as Commisions, some random stuff, and a Phoenix Wright PaPa Hat!

Right now Fanime 2010 is in a year and I'm planning to save money (I'll be a Senior in High School next year, so I need to save A LOT, since I'll also be participating in Senior stuff too.). I also want to plan to go to other Cons such as SacAnime and even the other big con, Anime Expo.  In the future, maybe travel around the world and go to The Otaku Con. Yeah, I'm thinking too much ahead again. But it shows how much of an impact it made on me. ^^ I would recommend a trip to Fanime to my friends.

I'll definitely be looking forward to Fanime 2010!
                     Thanks for reading.

Packing up right now, and I'm wondering people who frequently visits there or lives there knows how hot will it be? Right now in the Bay Area it's around 64-70 average.

Me and my friends are planning to take the BART and the BUS to get there. I'm used to taking the AC Transit in the Bay Area, which is around 85 Cents a ride. Is it different in San Jose since they use a different bus system? If so, how much?

As I stated in my previous topic, I don't have a Government ID. I just have a school ID.

I have my E-Postcard and it says that It's not impossible to get your badge without ID, but then the check-up will be longer.

Do you know what they'll do during that process and why would it take longer?

I'm interested in becoming a blogger, but I don't know what site I should use. Any ideas?

Registration / Picking up my Badge Question
May 13, 2009, 10:52:32 PM
I know your going to probably think this is the millionth topic you've seen about this, but please show mercy! <=)

Anyway, do I really need an ID?  Because I don't have one right now and even If I apply for one, it most likely won't be sent to me in time. I already paid for registration and I don't want to be stuck in a pickle when I come pick up my badge.

My friend registered for me, I gave her the money and she registered for my badge (because I'm unable to do online spending, and mail is too much of a hassle). Everything is under her information (address, etc.) except obviously the name, so can she just use her ID and pick up my badge? I don't have any other 'ID Card" except my 10th Grade ID Card, because I currently lost my current school ID.

What do I do.. Btw, it's my first year going to Fanime..

Registration / Question about Payment
February 25, 2009, 09:22:20 PM
Alright so my friend registered me. Right now it says ($55), so I have a few weeks until I save enough to give it to her.

This means I didn't pay yet, but then I'm kinda worry that next month the price will increase. Will this mean I'll be affected by it since I didn't pay and have to work an extra 5 or 10 Dollars? or is it because I registered before will mean that I can still pay 55?

Hotel and Facilities / Anymore Hotels left? (Newbie :P)
February 21, 2009, 12:16:47 AM
Hi, I'm a new member in the forum and this is my first year going to Fanime. I'm going with a group of friends who have been going to Fanime in the past. Anyhow, we just decided on who's rooming with who, we have a dilemma though. Hotels are hard to find these days. Together we are a group of 13, but we're splitting. One Group has 5 and the other has 8, which I'm in. The two seperate groups are responsible for their own rooms. This is my first time dealing with this, so I don't know what to expect, I'm just lending my friend a hand and helping her find some hotels, which is why I'm posting here haha. Anymore Hotels that are nearby? Preferably cheap, near. Yeah I know I'm shooting for the stars, but I'm hoping to get lucky here.

Sorry for the procrastination. Thanks in Advance.
