I doubt that the convention center can deny entry to service animals.  With few exceptions, facilities that are open to the public are required to accommodate people with disabilities.  Service animals are considered extensions of the owners' bodies, like canes, wheelchairs and hearing aids.

Since I was running an event on Friday, I could only sell on Thursday.  The badge pick-up line was so long on Thursday that I could not get to the swap meet until 8:00 pm.  Still, within one and a half hours, I made more than enough to break even.  I left well before midnight to catch the last VTA train.  This was still my most successful Fanime swap meet ever.

The average score on the 2016 Extremely Hard Take-Home Anime Quiz was 52 percent and the winning score was 84 percent.  This shows that the questions were challenging but not impossible.  Thanks to all seven people who submitted an entry.  I hope to see all of you and more at next year's quiz.

General Convention Discussion / 2017 Theme

Does anyone know what the convention theme will be for 2017?

For Question 24, just use her origin and destination.  There is only one sensible answer.

For Question 13, watch an opening from one of the later episodes of the second season.  The song, Tattoo Kiss, is always the same but the visuals are different.

I apologize for the confusion.

Quiz errata:

Question 20 should say "subbed" not "dubbed."

The 2016 Fanime Extremely Hard Take-Home Anime Quiz is available here: http://www.fanime.com/panels/extremely-hard-anime-quiz/

You can ask me questions here.

Good luck everyone.

Hey everyone, the quiz should go live on Friday, May 6.

The anime will be random but I try to choose the more popular titles.  The subjects will mostly be academic topics including art, Chinese culture, geography, history, Japanese culture, literature, classical music, science and theater.  You can find an example quiz at the Sakura-con website.  Under their Programming tab, click on Events and you should find their version of the Extremely Hard Take-Home Anime Quiz.

FanimeCon has accepted my Extremely Hard Take-Home Quiz.  This is a fifty question, multiple choice, open book, open everything quiz that you download from the FanimeCon website three weeks before the con.  To do well, you should do most of your research before the convention.  This year, the grand prize is a PS4.

My favorites have remained stable for quite some time and I am excluding movies.  In alphabetical order they are:

Fullmetal Alchemist (both)
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi
Ouran High School Host Club
Planetes
Trigun

Hi Shellysunfish:

On the subject of legality, every convention is different.  This is because each convention has their own agreement with industry, management style and tax filing status.  Most conventions that I have attended allow clips but I know of a few where even that is not allowed.  You should contact Fanime for specifics on what you can show and what you cannot show.

It sounds like your panel need not be 18+.  Adults' only panels often deal with hentai, similar adult themes or contain a lot of adult language.  Most anime featuring fan service typically can be discussed in a 16+ panel.  Fanime will probably ask you the age rating of your panel when you apply.

The game shows at stage zero have always given out prizes.  Typical prizes there have included anime figures, DVD box sets and restaurant gift cards.  I have no problems giving away prizes.  At Fanime, I have always given away 100$ Amazon gift cards as a second place prize.  My first place prizes have been game systems such as Xboxes and PS4s.  Anime conventions typically have restrictions as to what items cannot be given away, such as cash or certain food items.

To sign up for a panel at Fanime, there should be a web page that becomes available next year.  Fanime tries to make this page available in January but they seem to do so later each year.  I have seen it appear as late as March.  The application page will ask you certain questions such as what kind of equipment you need.

Another big reason, perhaps bigger than complaints and flame wars, that Sakuracon shut down their forum was because too many people tried to advertise stuff that they had for sale.  Sakuracon has a non-profit tax filinig status.  As a non-profit organization, they cannot tolerate becoming a venue for the sale of items.

I know of another smaller convention that did something really, really bad.  They shut down their forums because they got lots of negative comments.  Some of the comments showed that the convention tried to cover up their wrongdoing.

Last year, as a presenter of a Fanime-Con special event, Swap Meet officials waived my sellers fee.  This year I am again presenting the same special event.  Will Swap Meet again waive the $40/day fee this year?  If so, what documentation would I need to confirm that I am a presenter?

Hello everyone:

You have two weeks left before the quiz is due.  For those of you who have seen it, what do you think of it so far?

FanimeCon has posted the 2015 quiz.  You can find it at http://www.fanime.com/news/fan-events/.  Clicking on the link will get you to the rules.  Please read them.  The link to the quiz itself is at the bottom of the rules.  Good luck to all of you who participate.

I have submitted the official version of the Extremely Hard Take-Home Anime Quiz to Fanime.  The convention staff is working very hard to put it on this website.  If we are fortunate, it should begin very, very soon.
