I noticed: Wota Wotagei Workshop, Fan Events 2 (Fairmont Valley), Sunday 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm http://www.fanime.com/panels/fan-event-listing/#6
Anyone have any more info about this?

After double checking, the location is confirmed to be the Hyatt Place hotel (on the same block as the Civic) in Salon 1&2

Please join us for "Dance for your Idol" at 10pm on Saturday 5/23 in the Fan Event (which we think is the Valley Room in the Fairmont Hotel, but we apologize in advance if we're confused). The Fan Event Room is at the Hyatt Place hotel (on the same block as the Civic) in Salon 1&2.

Have you ever been to a Japanese concert and just sat there and wondered, "What am I supposed to do with all this energy inside me? How will my idol know how much I love her!?!?" We will teach you to unleash this untapped energy and become a lean mean cheering machine.

While it's your choice who to cheer for in the future, you can join us at Stage Zero to cheer for Platinum☆Stars, Cherry-Jelly Productions, Fanimaid☆LIVE, CV01, Ri☆Hai , SBA0048 and ATM.  http://forums.fanime.com/index.php/topic,20116.0.html

Yes, this is about "Wotagei" if you're familiar with this Japanese term. You can get a quick preview from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW_Op9pW4j0

Finally, you can visit our Facebook page "Overseas Wotagei Research Group" at https://www.facebook.com/kaiwoken

Are there Fan Events in 2015? If yes, what is the process for submitting one?

(The panel submission form says "if ... consider submitting your event as a Fan Event instead.")
I've been wondering if fan events are going to be a thing this year as well. Granted, with only a couple of months left until the con, it (sadly) doesn't seem very likely~ >: Would like confirmation on this please!
To answer my own question: Yes. http://www.fanime.com/panels/fan-events/ http://www.fanime.com/panels/fan-events-submissions/

I liked the live performances. I hope those continue (or expand) in the future.

Join us for a Wotagei Workshop (or Otagei Workshop if you prefer) at FanimeCon 2104 on Friday at 9 pm. We expect to be in the Valley Room in the Fairmont Hotel (second floor, between Panels 3 and Panels 4). This two hour fan event will cover, not just one, but two kinds of wotagei:

  • Concert wotagei:
Japanese-style concert cheering -- movements with or without glowsticks, yells (calls, MIXes) and other "concert manners" -- appropriate for anything from street performances and small clubs to big stadium idol and anime song concerts (AKB48, Animelo Summer Live, ...). http://youtu.be/AW_Op9pW4j0 is a quick starting lesson.
  • Street/Freestyle wotagei:
Wotagei for making cool dance videos to anime/idol/... songs for posting on Youtube, etc. with glowsticks and more difficult moves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SX_ebL8O8kY is an example video with groups from the US, Mexico and (mostly) Indonesia. The "U.S. Team" part by our group starts around 2:36, and these local guys will be showing off some of their fancy moves to a couple songs in addition to teaching.
Our official fan event listing: http://www.fanime.com/panels/fan-event-listing/#150

Wearing loose and comfortable clothing, bringing water, and generally being prepared to wave your arms and yell is encouraged.

Between scheduled performances at Stage Zero and random performances at Fanimaid Cafe, Karaoke or just somewhere with a boombox, there'll be plenty of opportunities to try out what you learned at FanimeCon.  It is our greatest hope that you'll join us in "beating out some wotagei" after the workshop.

For the 20th anniversary of No-Name Anime, we celebrate our history by watching the momentous "mockumentary" inspired by the history of GAINAX and by joining Spike and Jet as they learn about early video media in their own way.

I think having a meet-up or panel for older fans next year would be awesome. Has Fanime done this in the past?
There was an "Anime Fans Over 30" panel at FanimeCon from at least 2007-2010. I suspect that the person who started this would be happy if someone else continued this in the future.

Quote from: Zero on April 05, 2013, 04:31:24 PMI'm going to bring glow sticks for this show :P
As someone that doesn't understand the glow sticks at a performance thing, it seems like glow sticks work at every performance? O_o?
It's hard for performers in spotlights to see the audience in an otherwise dimly lit concert venue ... unless people in the audience have glowsticks (or penlights). Many, but not all, Japanese artists like to see people participating during songs with glowsticks. For those artists, it's an important way to support them. For some artists, there can be significant dialog with glowsticks. Some artists have particular colors, or individual group members have particular colors. Some songs or parts of songs have particular colors. Sometimes artists will call for particular dance moves.

For 7!!, unless there's other information, I'll assume that the simple waving of glowsticks of any color would make them happy. Does anyone know if 7!! has any preferences?

Be cautious about understanding this phenomenon. It can be a small step from understanding to spending hundreds of dollars on LED penlights.

Life is full of journeys; some are short, just a walk down the beach; others cover years, and span continents.  For the Flame Maidens of Seize in the 1121st Platoon, their journey has been accelerating towards an epic collision of forces, as two armies march towards what could be their final confrontation in today's heart-wrenching episode.  Kino's eponymous wanderings find her in yet a new land, meeting a young woman launching her own journey of discovery.  Finally, we end our anime meanderings today by reliving the journey of the Fate/stay night characters in a creative re-imagining of their story, in Unlimited Blade Works.
