Hotel and Facilities / Re: Hotels....

I was just about to ask same thing... I'd assume they would email throughout the day and I've been checking every hr, still nothing :(

Does anyone have their email yet? Or have any idea when they plan on sending out emails today?

I think that'll be kind of cute and would love to be able to know how to make a kimono itself, even in a 1/6 scale. I do hope this panel/activity gets approved.

Actual kimono at 1/6 scale :) Get to see and use all the process in a portable size, and it directly scales.

I have taught both at other conventions and events, I'm a big fan of doing stuff amongst the talking about stuff!

sounds very interesting... By hands are you meaning we would be able to make an actual kimono there? If so I'd be interested to see something like that.

that's what my understanding of what they said

Im gonna ask a question that's slightly off topic.
Fanime is going to email us our priority window in a separate email from our Reg confirmation right? I know it's a silly question, but I just want to clarify.

Registration / Re: Registration 2016
January 27, 2016, 01:36:52 PM
yea depending on when u register for the con fanime will give you a window for when you can purchase rooms,  but they haven't said much other than that

Registration seems to be working great!

Will housing require a con registration this year?

There is a limit 1 room per badge that fanime had stated in a facebook posts. Also prior to paying for the badges for the following year my friends and I have always had our IDs checked prior to buying it. I'm sure there's ways to get past it, but there's not much we can do for that. There's always possibility of shady people out there but like everyone else is saying, we don't truly know if this is a horrible system to put in place until we actually see results. Who knows maybe if they do have more people pre-reg earlier we could get more funding for better programs.

You know, isnt this just going to cause a giant rush to prereg next year, the same problem we have with Hotels anyways?
Also, now that scalpers would know they just need to prereg to get themselves room priority, wouldn't they just prereg and wrap that in with the investment cost? In the grand scheme of things the difference between 350 and 400 isnt going to stop scalpers all that much.
Hell, they could sell the badge with the room, its not like there is much name checking between the name on the badge and IDs besides +18 content, and even that can be bypassed easily sense staff doesn't have much time to check any details other then age when they need to push 100+ people into a room.

The only thing ive seen that really helps out is just limiting rooms to one per badge. Scalpers would only have so much they can initially invest into getting badges for the hotel rooms, and would think twice about grabbing more then a few badges.

I have to agree with both these posts.  No point in complaining until we actually see how it all works out. Also not everyone can be on their phone or computer 24/7 so it'll give those who have work or school and already pregistered a fighting chance to get rooms.

Just because a lot of people complain doesn't mean the complaint is valid.  Most people also say they hate paying taxes.  Human nature is to complain; it makes us feel better when things don't go how we want them to.

I don't think one can fairly decide that this new system is worse until we've actually experienced the results.  Every system has flaws, and I don't think anyone has denied it.  Obviously hotel registration has been a hassle the last few years as the convention has grown; how about we try the wait and see how this works method out before we rant and rave?

There will always be a lack of hotels, that is just a reality that will exist unless San Jose wants to build more hotels, or hotels offer more discounted room blocks for the con.  There will always be people who can't get a room because they've all sold out.  So, they have tried try to develop a system that more fairly decides who does or doesn't get a room.  Is registration date more fair than who squeaked through the overloaded website first?  Personally, I think it is.

I have to agree with all of this.   A lot of people are saying that this new system is unfair to people who pre-registered later, but you know what else is unfair?

Having a better connection than other people ( One year, I was at a coffee house when Fanime housing opened, now the site crashing in 10 seconds is bad enough, imagine that with the wireless going out every 30 seconds.  Yup )

Knowing lots of people who will help you reserve your room

Not having school, work, responsibilities that would keep you from being online/on your phone the moment housing opens.

Reserving 10+ rooms in order to scalp them to attendees.

All of those things can be considered "unfair" as well.

Is there anyway we could get an idea of what the rooms will be costing for each hotels prior to the release dates?
#49
Unless you're willing to pay more and reserve your rooms now then wait for the chaos, that's easiest way to guarantee a room. However, as mentioned before, it kind of depends on luck. Since I didn't have internet access while at work my bf was handling the room reservations. He was on 3 different computers and on the phone (since the reservations opened) and he couldn't get on the site and he kept getting a busy tone. After about 4.5 hrs, still no luck, I got off early that day so I also tried and within 45 minutes I got the rooms for us. Sad to say unless they change the system it'll all come down to luck.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Review your hotel stay!
June 10, 2015, 10:50:48 AM
This was the 2nd time my friends and I stayed at the Marriott this year, except in 2 rooms rather than 1 which made it a lot more comfortable  with bigger props this year. Although it'd have been nice to know that the Marriott had moved the fanimecon attendee checkins to the 2nd floor and we would be able to check in a lot earlier, luckily we arrived earlier just to get inline in hopes to get adjoining or rooms as close as possible. At first when we checked in they said they didn't have anymore available on the same floor at all. However, when we went back an hour later (waited for a call didn't receive it) to check on the status, it turned out our rooms were ready and we were right across the hall from each other which was awesome! The rooms this year didn't feel damp as it did this year which was nice. It was nice to be connected to the convention center because when we were tired or wanted to drop of our goodies we could just head upstairs. The biggest con I guess my friends and I noticed were the long waits for the elevator, which sadly is unavoidable with large events. The rooms were very affordable due to sharing it with friends. $94/night. We'll either stay in the same 2 rooms next year or upgrade to a suite.

So I'm new to this whole forum thing but on the Badge check why is it that the volunteers are being kind of selective about who they are picking out of the crowds and giving a hard time and some of the volunteers are extremely rude towards the con attendees this past year a lot of people i know were getting yelled at by one volunteer specifically i large Caucasian woman with glasses working by the dance most of the weekend This kind of behavior is really appalling especially coming from one that is supposed to be of some kind of authority to be treating people in such a horrific manner is unacceptable, I really hope This kind of behavior changes and the they become more selective in who they give power authority to.

I've noticed some of these things happening too as I'm passing by certain areas. However, you have the ability to go to con-ops and report it. Volunteers are supposed to be there to help make the experience a lot better not to have attendees feel uncomfortable.

Mod edit: its called a dance

One of the dealers room booths posted about it on their page:

"We will also be hosting Yaoi Bingo in Industry Video Room. It's also the last year we will be hosting such event -- so if you haven't caught a gander at Gale in this...event, come on by. It'll be both Sat-Sunday, from 730-1130PM."

Seems more like an oversight?

Hmm... Didn't even think to look there
#53
honestly i wouldn't know how to answer that. it could be that no one stepped up to create that panel or it could have been rejected by staff.  :-\
#54
there's a possibility that no one tried to create a panel for yaoi bingo

You most likely won't be able to have him use your badge but what you could do is when you contact Fanime ask them if they can switch the names of one of the badges to his that way it'll match his ID when you guys come to pick up badges. Then your bf could just pay you back.

Yeah I just realized that. I sent them an e-mail explaining the situation and asking for a refund but if they get back to me and say they can't, I'll try to ask about the name switch...

hopefully one of those things can happen, worse case scenario you could probably speak with someone at the con when you pick up your badge, like kuudere said it's not your fault that it got charged twice. i do hope you get everything sorted out.

Registration / Re: Thursday pre-reg badge pick up
May 20, 2015, 07:00:25 PM
badge pick up doesn't start til 3pm but there's always a group of people who'll be there early to line up. As far as waiting might as well wait until you pick up your badges. Lets just hope they keep the system they had last year which made badge pickup easy

Registration / Re: No email postcard
May 20, 2015, 11:39:13 AM
i believe they don't have the email postcards anymore. all you need is the screenshot with the QR code and your photo ID. As for signing into your account I believe they've locked it but if you want a copy of your initial registration and QR code sent again you could have them resend you the email.
