General Convention Discussion / Website Critiques
August 06, 2007, 02:21:46 AM
Honestly, I was excited when I first saw the page up. I started clapping my hands and generally squealing like a little girl >.>

I think the site is a little too pink. Since the theme is Feudal Japan, there are a lot more colors to work with..

The menu layout is awkward. There are a lot of good suggestions on this, so I won't comment further..

But, it's really sounding as if this year is going to be awesome. I just can't believe I can't make it this year :(

Registration / Registering at the door D:
May 25, 2007, 11:43:31 PM
Quote from: "GaMeReVoLuTiOnX"You need a badge, even for one day.

9am? Usually small to moderate.  Shouldn't be too bad until the afternoon.

Dude, I saw the line last year around 9am on saturday.. It was freakin' huge!

Seriously, get there as early as you can...

Quote from: "maeiounj39"Ok everyone, well I know it's late but lets get the last bit of info out to ya.

Regarding Badges, this is directly from the head of registration

They'll need to come down to Professional Registration in Ballroom K of the convention center with a government photo ID to pick up their badges. They are getting normal member weekend badges.

The hours for pick up are:

     Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
     Saturday 8:00am - 6:00pm
     Sunday 9:00am - 6:00pm
     Monday 9:00am - 12:00pm

Let me clarify two things:

1. "head of registration" = "head of Professional Registration" in this instance...
2. Sunday we will probably open at 8am, since we are getting slammed with way more people than we expected.

If you have any questions for Professional Registration regarding your badges, you can

email [email protected] (a little slow in responding)
pm me (also slow)
See us in Ballroom K (really fast)

When you come to pick up your badges, please state you're with AMV's..

Thanks, and see you there!

No animals except for service animals (such as a guide dog) are allowed in the convention center.

Sorry :(

Moved to General Discussion...

I don't have the time to sleep much... too much to do x.X

We keep them to use for the next year!

Every year, we add on 50, so there should be in total 100 banners put up in downtown San Jose.

... I guess you didn't get mine either.......
:P

In any case, there's still nothing given away...

When ARE we announcing that, btw?

I think we'll have some material together this weekend.. There were some new developments since the meeting on saturday ^_^

Quote from: "LadyKaren"Naruto was involved. I remeber that.

Aw, you gave it away.. I wanted people to guess for awhile :P

Nobody gets my sense of humor (or suspense) *sniff*

Quote from: "HeeroYuy135"Technically, the last "official" day of school is May 23, but 2 of the 4 finals that I had (Comp Programming and Trig) was today, I turned in my final for Philosophy yesterday, and I had my English final a week ago...so I'm in pretty good shape, and now I can prepare for Fanime and watch that countdown clock. *stares*

Proof positive that I should've gone to a semester school.. I just got done with my second round of midterms!

And, oh, my (email) inbox can't shut up about Fanime :P

Hm, yes, another guest...

We'll update the website with his info soon..

Something to do with a video game.. and an xBox 360.. Oh, why can't I remember the details..

One of the things that makes us unique (rather than different) is exactly what our by line states "By Fans, For Fans."

I look at it from a staff point of view. We are all anime fans, and were once members who went to Fanime. We loved Fanime so much that we became staff so that either we could be apart of something we love or wanted to make it better. We are also an entirely volunteer organization from the general staff to the chair to ARG (working behind the scenes with sneaky ninja stealth!). In other words, Fanime really is made and run by fans for fans..

That's amazingly different, to me anyhow..

I think that was for everyone, because I don't remember setting off space for press to take pictures anywhere...

General Convention Discussion / survival tips

Thanks for the replies!

The article with the tips has a tentative print date of May 17th in the San Jose Mercury...

Huh?

Black & White Ball has nothing to do with Dance. In the organizational scheme of things, it's not even under Programming; it's under Special Projects with FaniMaid Cafe, since it's a new event. And because of that, Programming's budget has nothing to do with B&W Ball's budget.

At this point, I would wait for the staff meeting tomorrow before drawing any conclusions. I, myself, don't know if this is true or not. And, hell, the person who's advertising Fanime should know if an event is canceled, right?

Well, lots of good questions.

In the land of Press/Media, we use release forms. I believe the research studies done by local grad students at Fanime in the past have also included release forms.. Since you're really neither, I can't be entirely sure that you should or shouldn't. If you feel you need to cover any legal holes, then release forms are a good idea.. Being up front and explaining it from the start is good. If you can, I would have the cosplayer ok the picture..

When you start dealing with minors (those under 18yrs) and their pictures, you have to include parents/legal guardians because legally they must give their consent as well as the minor. My advice is to stay away from minors (though I know about half the people that go are under 18yrs). If you can obtain parental consent later, that should be fine.

Hope this helps some...

Oh, one question for you: Can Fanime have a copy?

:)

4. Is it okay to like..give out freebie bookmarks me and my friends worked on to everyone i meet? (promoting here...ehehe ^^;;)

D:

As long as you're not soliciting anything and not being pushy about handing out the bookmarks, you should be fine.

Uh, staff housing closed yesterday, on the 6th. Just to let everyone know..

And yes, the price is whatever the total room price is for however many nights you're staying, divided by four since there are four staffers in each room.

Hope this helps...

The unique ID code is a great idea, and it's do-able with emails and stuff, which makes me wonder why they don't do something like that. Like "Present this code at pickup" and they can use a number generator or code generator and make a note of it in the registrations.

Someone brings their pass, turns in their code, it brings up a name and account and then a lower-level photo ID such as school ID would be more acceptable.

Isn't that what the printable post cards are for? It was my understanding that there is something that gets released around now to print out and take with you to pick up your badge...

Anyways, awhile back, skuld and mple posted answers to the ID issue. It boils down to legal issues... And, skuld specifically stated that there are other ways to verify that you are indeed.. you.

QuoteAnyways, I'm kinda miffed with registration staff right now for another reason...but I won't go into detail.

That's too bad... Reg staff are really nice people :(

Quote from: "LordKefka"I actually have a question myself about pre-reg. Since I'm part of staff in registration, how does that work? Do I need to still pay for the media badge?

Check your inbox..

Wow, okay. Totally didn't make the connection between your board name and you were the person on the other side of the table. We also didn't talk at all since we had like 2 people between us, but that's not the point. :P

Why do I feel like scolding those two people like a bad puppy...?
