Er, before this turns into a whole "I miss Bou!" thread...
Bou WAS an essential part to the band, and I'm sure a lot of people do miss him, but it was his own personal choice for leaving, and we should be respectful of that decision. If you've seen the Hibiya On the O New Sekai DVD, you can totally see how hard his departure was for each one of them, especially during the last encore, so I can only guess that hearing "I WANT BOU BACK" all the time doesn't make it any easier for any of them.
That statement can potentially spark some unwarranted mean comments against the newer members of the band, so...let's not go there, ok? :D

Takuya and Yuuki are amazing additions to AnCafe, and real Cafekko will be supportive no matter what~

In any case, I know for a fact that a lot of American Cafekko have been checking these forums for information, but once again, I'd like to repeat that we cannot confirm or deny any info at this present time. (BFE)

I'd just like to say that we are not affiliated with J-Rock Revolution.  Also, I don't think that JRR has explicitly mentioned anything about An Cafe on the homepage, I thin it was just mentioned in their forums, which is probably not the best source for reliable information at the moment.

I know it's like being hit in the head repeatedly by a book but it's worth repeating: At this time, we can neither confirm nor deny any information.

well maybe an cafe posted it on their site because it's scheduled and planned to happen.
but at the same time, fanime doesn't want to say yes or no completely because something can always go wrong and it can all fall through.
ax06, moi dix mois was going to have a concert, heck he even advertised it on one of his spreads in a magazine. but something went wrong and it was cancelled at the last minute.
so maybe when it gets closer or when things are fully worked out they'll announce it officially =]

It's not really us not wanting to say something, it's more like we CAN'T say anything just yet. MusicFest staff is working hard yo! Trust in us (><;;;   )

Well I trust the staff and I bet you are going to make it amazing.

I don't think An Cafe announced it to be rude or anything, or to purposely go against the Fanime staff ^^ They just don't really understand that it's different then usual tour dates. They were confused about what it meant to be a headlining act when they were on the radio yesterday, until someone explained it to them xD They're a japanese band, they're not doing anything to be rude, there is just a language barrier.

All the anime fans that don't really know who An Cafe is will be happy to know that the bassist, Kanon, is a huge anime fan. He had a lot of fun at Akon spending time with American anime fans and he said on the radio that he's excited about all the Anime parts of the con this time too!

An Cafe is my favorite band, so I'm super excited xD But I'll just wait and let Fanime officially announce it (which I hope will be soon! I'm sure you're just working out a few minor details :D I don't think An Cafe knows it hasn't been announced yet even xD)

I have a two relating questions about ticketing:

IF AnCafe did come to perform at Fanime, would I have to buy a ticket to see their concert or is my badge just fine?

Or could I just buy a ticket to see their concert and not have to buy a badge at all. [I might not get to stay at the con ):]

MusicFest is a part of Fanime, so you just need to register and get a badge... there's no separate ticket. http://www.fanime.com/registration/

if An Cafe is really coming to Fanime this year, it would be most awesome. they're one of my favorite bands, and i told myself if they ever came to tour the US i would totally go to one of their shows.

turns out theres a chance they'll play at Fanime, so it totally works out for me XD

If you don't want to register for a full weekend, you can register for one day attendance, for Fanime, on the day of the concert, that will be able to get you into Musicfest's concert.  These passes are not available online but in person at the reg booth. 

In terms of seating, in the past, it has been first come first serve, but not in terms of when you get your registration, it depended on how long before the show one was willing to line up. 

It's generally first-come-first-serve, but if there is high demand, we may put in other measures (like pre-registered members get in first, hold a raffle, etc.)

One-day memberships will only be available at the door, which could be up to a three hour wait...  :-\

Last year, MusicFest was held in the convention center, but usually it's at the Civic Auditorium which is right across the street from the convention center:

No worries! I would suggest, if you can, to buy a full badge and pre-register for Fanime. Pre-reg lines tend to move more quickly than the "single day" badge lines which can take more than 3 or 4 hours.

Wow, 3-4 hours? I remember last year at Anime Expo, I had to wait about 7 1/2 hours. . .

Does anyone know what time the concert might start? And what time the registration lines open?

We are still working out the times for the concerts... it depends on various other schedules. Sunday concert would definitely start sometime between 4pm-8pm. We'll have an official announcement and put it on the site.

Registration should open around 8am; we'll have exact times on the website probably around April.

After find out about (the possibility of) this concert, I decided I'm going to Fanime this year.. So yeah. Gathered a few friends who wanna come with me, I think we'll all have a blast. haha.

Personally, I love all five of the members, and miss Bou. However, I think I've warmed up more to Yuukiki and Takuyan than Bou-kun. haha. :'D Other AnCafe concerts I've been to were fantastic! They're real showmen! :D I hope I have a chance/the legal right to give them a present or something. ;]

So I'm excited. Hope this all works out for me. I plan to pre-reg.

hmm 5 hours?.. I remember the first time I went to Fanime's Musicfest (in the Civic Auditorium) was the year ZZ came and I stayed in line for quite sometime haha (got there early-ish, and still got really good seats, though we were able to go in the pit if we chose to.) and the line got ginormous. O_O but anywho.. The concert didn't seem more than 2-3 hours.. but maybe it was just me. ><;; Time does go by fast when you're having fun. haha

Typically, the concert would last a few hours depending on the number of bands playing.

As of the moment, the lineup is not currently set. We'll let everyone know what the schedule is on the website when it is.

If you check the schedule on the MusicFest site (http://www.fanime.com/musicfest), you'll see that there are a couple of autograph sessions for them! :D The schedule is subject to change of course.

As for gift-giving, please read the "About" section of the MusicFest site. v(^^;   )

I am pretty sure the rule was in place last year and possibly has been for a while. That doesn't stop people obviously. I would think that they would have limited space to bring stuff back to Japan with them anyways.


I am really liking their new lineup. This is going to be a fun concert.

*blinks* MusicFest is a badged event and AnCafe's concert will be available to everyone with a badge. I don't see any tickets needed to go to their performance. Now "Meet the Guest" is a completely different story.

Well...yeah, we enjoy bits and pieces, lol. The thing is, if you're on MusicFest staff, you gotta be willing to leave in the middle of the show to do errands. Last year, I missed out on some of MECHANiCAL PANDA's set because I was running around trying to get stuff for their merchandise display. And during Crack 6's performance, I couldn't really concentrate so much on their show because we were walking around trying to make sure people weren't taking pictures with their phones.

It's a lot more tiring than people assume, and it's not just 'hanging out' with the bands. Fans actually get to interact a lot more with the guests! LOL.

Well...yeah, we enjoy bits and pieces, lol. The thing is, if you're on MusicFest staff, you gotta be willing to leave in the middle of the show to do errands. Last year, I missed out on some of MECHANiCAL PANDA's set because I was running around trying to get stuff for their merchandise display. And during Crack 6's performance, I couldn't really concentrate so much on their show because we were walking around trying to make sure people weren't taking pictures with their phones.

It's a lot more tiring than people assume, and it's not just 'hanging out' with the bands. Fans actually get to interact a lot more with the guests! LOL.

Yeah. I pretty much assumed that was the case. I still would love to help out though. The only thing is I don't have any experience with sound systems or stage set-ups, and I'm not sure if you guys are willing to accept entry-level staff with no experience in concerts. ^^;;

Again, MusicFest is a badged event. If you have a badge or if you are on staff and the concert doesn't conflict with your duties, you can go to MusicFest.

There will most likely be a line to get into the Civic for An Cafe's concert but yes, you may enter or leave the Civic during the concert.

We would love for you to enjoy MusicFest, but as for staffing, our positions, even as gophers, are pretty intense.  Sure, you don't need to be doing things all of the time, but you need to be on-call for 18+ hours because our needs are so unpredictable--even if we're just talking about fetching things.  So I would definitely not recommend staffing for any other departments at the same time.  And like Tony said, it's against policy to be in more than one department so three is not going to fly.

I am a newbie to Fanime. I have been into anime since before some of you guys were born, and into jrock before that!!
After spending about 20 grand buying anime vhs tapes, laser disks etc. I finally stopped watching anime on a reg. basis.

BUT..my love of jpop/rock has increased, esp since I am a musician.

So....I am going via pre-reg to Fanime ONLY to see An Cafe.

What I want to know is...to get good seats/floor position, when, realistically should I line up at the convention center?
Should I be prepared to camp out on SAT night, or stroll up to the doors a few hrs. before the concert?

Any input would be appreciated for an old geezer jrocker..

why was it that this was scheduled for Sunday instead of Saturday? Theres probably an explanation in the previous posts but i am kinda lazy to go to the direct one. its just a bit weird to have the masq on sat instead of Sunday.

UHM, I highly discourage camping out the night before in front of the Civic Auditorium. In all honesty, I'm not sure when you should start lining up, but please use sound judgement, and please remember that personal safety is of utmost importance!!!!!! o_O;;;

Also keep in mind that there may be earlier events going on with An Cafe on the same day as their show, and you may not want to miss those...

It was the only way to resolve a scheduling conflict. An Cafe has a show in Tokyo at NHK Hall on Friday night, and if we had MusicFest on Saturday, they'd basically have to go right back on stage at the Civic after a 12+ hr flight with absolutely no rest. Poor guys would be absolutely exhausted if we did that to them, especially since it's near the end of their tour (><;;  )

As there is no option for single day pre-registration, the estimates are not available. The Civic Auditorium holds up to 3,000 people. We can only hope to have a full house for the An Cafe concert.

We are currently looking into various options and will have updates on the website or announced at the General Meetings for staff members.

The concert is first come, first serve so the earlier you line up, the better the spot you get.  In the past, (as with any concert event) there has not been a designated time for the line to start forming.  However, please use common sense when deciding how early you want to start lining up.  I understand that this year is a bit different since we do have a more high-profile group coming to the convention, but our priority is your safety and I ask that you not camp out over night :)

If you have a weekend badge or a day pass the day of the concert than you will be able to get in. There is no seperate ticket from the Fanime badges.

Volunteers will still be doing the badge checks(most likely) for MusicFest, just as they would do for any regular Fanime event, is that correct?

Just a bit curious, since this one's a high-profile guest and all and safety being the highest concern of the concert...

Question about the promo code for An Cafe. I've seen 3 different ones, which one is the real one or will they all work? One from the MusicFest site, another on the Fanime: An Cafe Flyer, and another on a site promoting the the band at Fanime. Does anyone know if there is a difference among them?

They're all valid.  :) The biggest difference is that they were offered at different times. Basically, completing a registration with any one of them will get you into the concert.

Will the quickest way to find out information be on the forum or site?

The website will always be updated first. Then the forums may come afterwards depending on whether or not Tony (or any of the MF staff) or I make the announcements on here.

As Tony stated above, the promo codes were offered at different times.  The "ancafe" promo code is the one that is most widely used and the "accc" lets us know that you saw it on the flyers than the website.

When are we allowed to start lining up for the concert?  You obviously dont want us camping out as stated before, and you said you are going to make it so we dont have to line up early, But im curious as to what time we are allowed to start lining up. I chose not to go to ACen this year, and instead to attend Fanime with my best friend, just because of An Cafe. It's bad enough we had to schedule flights and work around the entire thing to begin with, and we had to have everything prepared months in advance because of all of that. And to hear that a lot of the stuff has been scheduled on Monday... as of only the past month, if that, it's just pretty stressful. I've spent a lot of money on a hotel room AND plane fees, all because of An Cafe... and now I may not even be able to do some of the events, because it wasn't planned out early enough ahead of time? And with Fanime in 15 days (or at least, that's when my plane leaves, and some things open that evening), this just seems ridiculous.

I totally understand where all of you are coming from in terms of stress in planning for something in advance. At the moment, would you rather get half-confirmed information that constantly changes or get information that is fully concrete?

We are working on this as hard as we can but there are unforeseen obstacles in the way that are not in our control, mainly red tape that was thrown in our way by top executives. Trust us when we say we want to have a smooth presentation of the band to their biggest fans and the band wants to have a great time with you guys but we do have to work things out with their management, record label, etc. who may object to certain things because they're not involved at the very last possible moment.

I will confirm that there will be tickets given out for the concert. They are free tickets so long as you have registered for a badge. If you are only attending on Sunday, the Sunday badge will allow you to pick up a ticket. Details on that will be up on the website soon.

There will be an Autograph session as well as a Q&A session on Monday as stated on the website for some time. There won't be an Autograph session on Sunday as much as we would like to have it.

Meet the Guests (aka Meet An Cafe) will be held on Sunday. There will be a limited number of tickets for both (Meet the Guest & Autographs) due to the sheer number of people attending. As much as we want to accommodate everyone, we can't.

Tony and I are stressing along with you guys about all the details. We want you guys to have a lot of fun and enjoy Fanime as well as the awesome bands at MusicFest. As for the comments on our professionalism, we'll take the criticism and let it push us to be better at what we are volunteering to do. We do appreciate that you took the time out to comment about your thoughts. We are available through email if you do have any other concerns, questions, and yes, even criticisms but hey, we'll take some praise too. None of the staff gets paid for this. I mean honestly, the people who work for Fanime don't even have to be here, but they do it anyways because they love the con(or they love anime, at the least) and it's because they love the con that they work hard to improve their con, even if it's not pristine perfect.

Yup! Tony's going to announce the details of the tickets for Fanime Staff at either the next meeting this Saturday or the meeting on the 18th.

That's one thing that worries me a bit.
I'll be showing up with phen on Saturday, and I'm paranoid that all of the tickets will be gone because they'll be given out on friday or something. :/  Since we're driving up from LA, we obviously can't be there at 7 in the morning. . . but, yeah I'm sure you guys will figure something out. @w@

Well, the tickets are numbered but they're mainly used for a capacity basis. You can still line up for the actual concert as it is "first come, first serve" in terms of seating. However, we will discourage everyone from lining up until after the FMV's are over. Anyone lined up at the Civic before then will be for FMV's and not for MusicFest.

Tony and I are aware of our attendees coming in on Sunday just for the concert and have made every effort to be fair to them as well as everyone. I don't want to steal Tony's thunder but please be patient with the announcement of details. Otherwise, Tony will yell that I'm a bad boss. XD

As long as I get a ticket to get in the concert when I get there saturday I dont care. If they are all gone becuase I got there saturday Im going to be extremely extremely angry, expecially since im coming just for An cafe as many others are too. You said you are aware of this I just hope you take into account how many people are coming on the later days.

Also, do we have to be the ones to pick up tickets for the concert, or If we have friends who are showing up earlier than us are they able to get them for us? Im assuming we have to pick them up ourselves but none the less I felt I should ask.

- We're only giving out a certain amount per day; there will be tickets left on Sunday.

Well, the tickets are numbered but they're mainly used for a capacity basis. You can still line up for the actual concert as it is "first come, first serve" in terms of seating. However, we will discourage everyone from lining up until after the FMV's are over. Anyone lined up at the Civic before then will be for FMV's and not for MusicFest.

Tony and I are aware of our attendees coming in on Sunday just for the concert and have made every effort to be fair to them as well as everyone. I don't want to steal Tony's thunder but please be patient with the announcement of details. Otherwise, Tony will yell that I'm a bad boss. XD

Now that doesn't really sound good, because it reminds me of the lines for Jrock Revolution last year in LA. People lining up for Saturday's concert started a seperate line and there were fights over it. Can you imagine all the fans standing alongside the people waiting for the FMV's and then rushing forward as soon as they're in? And plus, people will probably start lining up hours in advance for MusicFest anyway and just standing like across the street and there will be probably be just a mad rush. If that makes sense. v.v

I think what you said clearly explains what is on my mind right now. But you could have put it in nicer words or something.

I mean, a lot of people paid A LOT of money [people who are going on a plane] JUST to see AnCafe, and wouldn't it be a waste if they didn't get the ticket to go to the concert? Yeah, they could just enjoy the convention, but some people don't like anime. [My cousin doesn't really like anime but she likes AnCafe]

Everyone is just worried and they want information ASAP to make sure that everything goes according to their schedule.

I'm worried too. This will be my first year at Fanime and I would like specific details so I won't get lost. I'm not familiar with the convention center in San Jose, or anywhere near there.

All in all, I think everyone should just chill out. There's two more weeks before Fanime and I bet that the staff members are working on what to do. More information will most likely be posted sometime next week. [But I'm not part of staff so I wouldn't know] I don't think they'll have all information posted the night before Fanime because that's when most fans are leaving for San Jose and the next day, most of them will be clueless.

And you assume that I have never been to an anime convention and that I don't know how it works. I'm well aware of the fact that it's handled differently and have seen other bands at anime conventions as well (that GASP I traveled to just for the band since believe it or not some people don't really like anime ^^) Also, I think it's hilarious that you think me maintaining the an cafe community is any sort of power trip or anything, I just wanted to make sure that the people there know what is going on since I care about what happens with other Cafekko and it's rude to quote someone if they don't want to be, that's the only reason it was mentioned. If you even look over there, you see their we're people very grateful for it because they had no idea any changes were happening and now they have the chance to change their plans if need be. When if this was announced officially a week before Fanime, they may not have.

Many of us don't care about the anime portion of the convention, and we've spent a lot of money to make it to Fanime, just for An Cafe. Many of us are leaving very soon and do need to hear a little bit of news to alleviate some of the anxiety.

True, whining about it isn't going to do anything.

We just want a little bit of info so we're not left completely in the dark.

Yeah, I did the same thing and spent about the same amount with MUCC at Otakon. Where there were tickets and you had to rush up to the booth to get them. Did everyone who wanted to see the band get to see them? No. But that is not the fault of the con, that is the fault of the fan for not getting there early enough to ensure that they get a ticket. In fact, I almost missed out and was going to be super bummed about it (even though I managed to get a ticket from someone else). So if you miss out because you aren't getting to the con till Sunday? If it wasn't obvious from my last comment, I'll spell it out: I'm attending to see AnCafe. I'm also going to see friends I don't get to see often and to see THEE OUT MODS. I'm here because I'm sick of seeing everyone bitch and whine and moan and demand information that doesn't even exist yet. If any of you REALLY knew anything about how con staff does things, you'd be patient and shut up already. And did anyone think for maybe a minute that the reason things aren't settled and decided yet is because of the band and their management and not because of the con? Do you have any idea what goes into putting stuff like this together? All the last minute changes and finalizations? Do you people think at all? You're all acting like a bunch of spoiled brats and I'm sure it's not helping the stress levels of the people working hard to make sure you ungrateful brats have a good time.

As per Otakon vs Fanime: Yes, they are different conventions on two different coasts. However, it seems that Fanime is doing the ticket thing similar to Otakon. A thousand pardons for pointing that out.

I know that. And normally I keep my mouth shut, but it's just come to a point where I'm sick to death of it. I'm sick of the selfishness and ego and lack of common sense. It's not as if I don't want the information, too, and it's not as if I'm not stressed over a number of things or not paying a lot of money to attend myself, you know? I've been dealing with situations like this for years, but honestly I've not seen it get as irritating as it is with AnCafe fans. The vast majority of them make me ashamed to call myself a fan as well. But that's neither here nor there.

I must say thank you for understanding what I was attempting (and apparently failing) to get across. I think perhaps now that I've got it out of my system I can fade back into the background where I tend to stay and just ignore their childishness again. It just gets to where you need to say something or you'll explode. Now that I have, I feel slightly better, if not still peeved.

I would like to point out again, that yes, we would desperately like to give you guys a ton of information to ease your minds, but the truth is, we don't want to come across as unprofessional and announce specific things on our end without the approval of everyone involved.

It was stated earlier about how the lack of information seemed unprofessional on our end, BUT I think that announcing something without complete approval is even more unprofessional. We had to pick the lesser of two evils, and by doing so, it may have come across as us not knowing what we're doing, but believe me, we're definitely working hard to make sure this show goes as smoothly as possible. It just sucks that we can't talk about it, other than what's already been said by Tony and jemz.

As a fan, I know how it feels to not have information when you want it, especially in terms of ticketing, but we're doing our damned best to expedite everything as fast and as accurately as we can, even if we can't say much about it just yet. m(_ _)m We are keeping all your worries in mind!!!

Anyway, these personal attacks on each other have got to stop. An event like An Cafe's first US concert should bring all Caffeko together.... (;____;   )

Fanime is a private organization. People have the right to inquire and be concerned in terms of what's being planned, especially large events. Not everyone that goes to Anime conventions actually care about anime, because there's more than anime-related things being provided. There are people in and out of the country to go see AnCafe perform live, and a good amount of them are going only for that reason. I'm not speaking for Fanime, but I think those who had politely asked questions understand and appreciate the work staff is undergoing to manage the event. They're not whining or complaining, they're inquiring about something that concerns them because they're the ones spending the money to attend.

Asking for information is completely fine, and Fanime will most likely do their best to answer them. As long as no one is whining "WHAT, I HAVE TO GO THERE ARE GET MY TICKET MYSELF?! WHAT BS IS THIS." then there's no harm in asking. What is true is that this is how Fanime is being allowed to organize this. If they don't manage to get their ticket because of their own personal reasons, it isn't Fanime's fault.

I couldn't care less about the elitist Jrock fandom. I despise the whiny elitist delusional fangirl as much as the next guy, but they're still attendees. They have the right to ask about something they're concerned with. Let them be annoying, selfish, and condescending if they want to be. If they can't be understanding, tough shit. They're right; we're all cafekkos and a lot of people are stressed out. I perceived the "fangirls" in question however to be very polite and thankful for the information they're receiving. It's very nice to hear some comforting words, even if we have to "hassle" the staff, as you put it.

Anyways, back on topic~ I'm really excited to see Antic Cafe, and so far, the ticketing sounds reasonable. As long as it's quick and easy, I don't think there will be much of a problem. If it's first come, first serve, so be it. I just don't want another S.K.I.N. concert retake. -shiver-

I think we should all be grateful and excited about this event! I decided to give up Anime Expo this year for Fanime, and I know that a lot of other people have made sacrifices, too. Although that can add to the pressure, doesn't it also make you feel more grateful? ^^ I'm grateful for the staff, personally, and thank them for giving us as much information to ease our minds as possible~

We are trying our hardest to confirm and release information as quickly as possible. As you can imagine, with cultural, language, and even time differences, the process has been quite painful.

As the head of MusicFest, I accept responsibility for not pushing harder to get things done faster, and I'd like to apologize to all of the An Cafe fans who have been patiently waiting for updates. Trust me, I'm as uncomfortable as any of you, but I'm doing all I can to make sure that as many fans as possible get to enjoy an awesome concert and appearance by An Cafe.

That said, I've updated the schedule on the MusicFest page at http://www.fanime.com/musicfest/ . I'm wrapping up the ticketing policies and coordinating with events throughout the convention to distribute tickets as prizes... I would announce them now, but there's a few loose ends, and I've been working on this for about 12 hours straight. ^_^; So, more tomorrow.
