I noticed that for the tabletop tournaments there were a couple Texas Hold'em preliminaries. Do we have to go to every preliminary or just one?

We are checking-in with Tabletop on this - we'll follow-up.

Hey everyone, we sincerely apologize for the lack of updates here. Been a busy last several weeks - we are in process of updating the website with the tournament schedule, followed by tournament details.

For the Gaming Hall, do we bring our own tabletop games, is that allowed (board or card games)?

You can bring your own tabletop games! Please do keep an eye on your personal games and also not mix up Tabletop's rental offerings.

Smash 4 related questions

Both Smash 4 for the Wii-U and Melee for the Gamecube are being offered this year. We will make a call for community equipment should there a need.

For allowed controllers (This will get included in tournament details):

"Wii classic controllers and WiiU Pro controllers will be allowed, but you are responsible for setting it up in game. If setting up a controller and its controls takes an excessive amount of time, then we may ask you to use a standard GCN controller for the sake of time."

I literally only go for the DotA tournament that you guys had for the past three years, so I'm not sure why the event keeps downsizing the DotA tournaments but promoting undeniably smaller games. If I'm not mistaken I believe for the past three years there were around 200-300 people per DotA event at each year you hosted it so why stop?

It really comes down to making sure we are offering a good variety of tournaments, our resources, and allocating time between freeplay and tournament mode for our PC area. We do recognize that DOTA is one of the most popular games currently and this was not easy decision to not offer one this year. We will review the game again next year's event should there be a significant demand to have it return to our line-up (vs our resources/time).

4/29/2016 Update:

First / "OP" post updated with corrections and tweaks. Latest news updated as well with current updates as of today.

Last year, people loved our arcade selection. While are procuring a arcade list from our vendor, any requests for this year?

The scare tent idea! We debut this back in 2014 in our PC Gaming area with a lot of great feedback; 2015 was unfortunately a series of problems that ended up not working out.

For this year, we're trying to bring the idea back in a different form. I've linked this post to our eGaming department and they'll review it.

Live Programming and Events / Re: Ping Pong Tournament?
December 14, 2015, 06:14:58 PM
We currently have no plans to have a Ping Pong tournament in Tabletop's area in the Gaming Hall. Should that change, we will make an announcement in the future Gaming Hall 2016 forum thread, website, and our official social media outlets.

Long story short - Table spacing issues @ Tabletop

There were some layout complications that occurred on setup day and we have made note of them. I do agree it was too cramped and we'll attempt to space it better for 2016. 2015 was a attempt at space optimization and attempts to mitigate higher crowds - we were somewhat successful but we did learn quite a bit on actual design.

Feedback: We'll take some Gaming Hall-specific feedback here and social media, but please do post in the official Convention feedback thread in the link below. We are listening and striving to improve the Gaming Hall for FanimeCon 2016!

Hi everyone, thank you for coming out for this year's Gaming Hall! Games Management is aware there is quite a bit of feedback for our area - please standby for the feedback forms that will be setup.

I do want to say this: we are 100% aware that some tournaments did not run smoothly as we would of liked. We do apologize for the inconsistent tournament experiences and we are reviewing what we can do to improve for 2016.

Gaming / Re: Where are all the Ninja players?
May 27, 2015, 12:29:29 PM
Space limitations actually. Our Gaming Hall departments are expanding and it is challenge to accommodate that while maintaining enough walking room for everyone. Its not like we wanted to cut back - I did see a few Ninja games but they were in random spots.

We do care about attendee safety and having someone getting hurt on the concrete floor is not a fun ending for any of us.

5/19 update: we have formally announced our Arcade Machine List, which can be found in the 2nd post of this thread, or click below:

@abcbadcat - We are working with our arcade vendor to get that final list out ASAP. We do sincerely apologize to you and the general public on the delay on this list. Games Management does know of people wanted a good selection and esp bemani games.

@bahamutknightzero - We did have someone ask a similar question on our social media page and here is that answer:

Quote"Originally we were looking at the PS4 edition until we found out it will not be released in time for 'Con - this forced us to fall back to previous generation. Given what was used for EVO 2014, staff inventory, and what our sponsors can offer, we decided on the 360 edition."

Hi all,

E-Gaming has deployed a significant update on their events/tournament list and posting a partial details list of pc/console tournaments. Please do check the first post/OP for details!

  • Start times for various tournaments have changed! Smash Bros 4 1's/4's and Mario Kart 8 are in better spots for attendees to participate!
  • We are formally announcing "Persona 4 Arena Ultimax" and "Blazblue Chronophantasma Extend" as tournaments! We do have two more console tournaments we are finalizing.
  • Our Ultra Street Fighter 4 and both Smash Bros 4 "1vs1" / "4vs4" finals events will be hosted on Stage Zero! USF4 and Smash 1vs1's on Saturday, with Smash 4vs4 on Sunday. Both events @ Stage Zero will start at 6pm!
  • 5vs5 League of Legends, DOTA2, and CS-GO tournaments are under review due to recent developments. We will post updates ASAP regarding the status of those tournaments.

Thanks to offers from the community and new developments, E-Gaming is busy adjusting the tournament schedule and finalizing new tournament details. Given the sheer amount of details however, we might update it in waves.

@ Mizuki - We will be updating either the OP or the 2nd post in this thread with details. What I can tell you tho is for the DOTA2 1 vs 1, it will be based on the "Practice 1 vs 1" that is found in-game.

4-30-2015 update = E-Gaming has released their events/tournaments list for this year. Tournament specific details will be updated ASAP (probably in the overflow post if I manage to hit the character cap).

@ abcbadcat and SatoshiS: We are currently waiting on our Arcades vendor to give us the list for this year. I'll update the OP ASAP and announce it =)

@ jedisurvivor : Yes!
