Hotel and Facilities / Waitlist Experiences
February 09, 2018, 02:35:12 PM
Hi everyone!

I'm on the waitlist for the first time. Can anyone please talk about their experiences/odds of getting a room when on the waitlist?

(Although I managed to register for my badge within the first 3 minutes, I had no idea that hotel reg even opened until 2 hours ago. ;__; School and extracurriculars have been sucking the life right out of me; I wasn't paying attention to personal emails, and the lack of social media notifications didn't help.)

This year, the entirety of the upper floor and a good chunk of the ground floor were off-limits except to pass-holders. This is a HUGE drag.

They did this last year. It really helped relieve the traffic upstairs.

The last time I attended Fanimecon, a 4-day pass was somewhere in the neighborhood of $60. This year, it was $85. Look, guys, this isn't Venezuela. We're not experiencing 50% annual inflation. This kind of price increase, in combination with the first policy change that I mentioned, is absolutely inexcusable, especially when Kublacon is still only $60.

This year I paid $55 for a 4-day pass, same as last year, and I think the year before that. Full weekend passes are cheapest when you buy early.

It was fun while it lasted. Maybe I'll start my own convention with blackjack and hookers.

Vegas is cool since it's also 24/7, but I still think Fanime is more fun and much cheaper. Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy this year's con, even though you technically never even attended.

Amtrak??

My friends have suggested that, but I'm not comfortable learning something new in crunch time. I'm the type who easily gets lost. xP

Hotel and Facilities / Mind if I hitch a ride?

(TO MODS: Please move this to the proper place if needed!)

'Lo! As it stands, my plans A through Y of getting to Fanime have all failed. I'm in desperate need of a carpool! I live locally in the bay area, north of San Jose. I'll definitely have one small luggage about 2 feet tall and a backpack; the rest of my stuff is small enough to just sit in my lap. I'd like to go Friday morning (at least before 11am) and be dropped off at the Pacific Motor Inn about 2 blocks away from the con.

I will pay for gas and even cook fresh breakfast if you want! I really don't want to take BART and bus for 3 hours while wearing and carrying all my stuff. ;___;

Therefore, I don't think the wristband idea will work. Or am I missing something?

I think what LordDawn is talking about are those wristbands with the white sticker/adhesive parts that are hard to remove, like the ones at concerts and stuff.

Last year it was ridiculous how the AA folks were treated in this regard, causing many of them to lose out on housing.

Exactly! I saw AA peeps make the most ruckus last year when reg directly affected housing. As much as I want walking distance hotels myself, I really thought it was unfair to the people working at/for Fanime to put in even more work just to find a place to sleep.

And knowing that you've most likely been to Fanime more often than me - it's been around for years, but why do they have so many major problems? Why does it feel like some things never really get a permanent fix?

Ideas and Suggestions / Housing Priority
January 23, 2017, 11:31:04 PM
I've been thinking about this for a few days, but I'm not so sure it'd be easy or possible. It's basically just an idea to mull over, but I wish physically disabled attendees and peeps who are working/conducting business at Fanime had housing priority over everyone else, if not rooms already set aside for them.

I'm pretty sure someone or others might've talked about this before. I guess after finally getting a bit experience under my belt, I'm starting to see why the more seasoned goers often groan about a big, old con having so many issues.

Roommate Wanted

Hey hey, I'm Maribelle! I'll be 22 in March, and this will be my 4th (5th?) time attending Fanime. This will also be my third experience with hotels, but my first time booking by myself. I managed a single queen bed, no rollaway, at the Pacific Motor Inn (formerly Ramada San Jose) from Friday to Monday.

I'm looking for a single roommate, two if someone doesn't mind sleeping on the floor. I'm also only offering the space for Friday and Saturday night, as I will have someone staying over on Sunday night. I'd like to be paid in cash, $35/night for one roomate, $23/night (per person) for two roommates. You also get a room card.

I prefer people with a personality that can range from "I'm capable of conducting business with adult strangers" to "I snapchat my best friend while I'm on the toilet." People who can't get weird now and then make me shy and anxious to act myself. I'm not great at starting conversations, but if you talk to me I'll keep it going. :3 I'm also a bit of a night owl. If you don't mind me staying up kind of late (1am - 2am) and keeping to myself, I won't mind the same of you. And of course, the general "please respect my stuff, don't be noisy during dead hours, etc."

You can message me on here, email me at [email protected], and/or specifically request any of my social media (FB, Twitter, Tumblr, Snapchat, IG). If you're interested, please hit me up so that I can get to know you better before the con!

Request fulfilled! Thanks B! x3
