Still plenty of openings in case anyone wants to book. :D

Does anyone know what the boffer requirements are for the Dojo's all night boffer war? They recommend bringing a weapon, so I want to make sure I have the right weapon construction when I show up.

Just updated the schedule with many more openings. :D

A couple new updates, including today's new video about emergency kits for cosplay photo shoots.

Update: Feedback on Facebook has caused me to consider a series of two workshops. One night workshop and one daytime workshop, with each focusing on the type of lighting you would use in each setting.

How does this tentative lineup sound?
Night workshop: Friday night.
Day workshop: Saturday morning.

This thread is to gauge the interest level in Cosplay Photography Lighting if it were held as an independent workshop (or even series of workshops).

You can control your photos to create amazing art right at the time of the photograph, and all you need to do to enhance your skills is learn a bit about lighting. Things like flash, natural light, reflectors, diffusors, etc. All with beginners, budget-conscious, and portability-minded photographers in mind.

I'd show why and when you'd use different lighting techniques, and what you can do on a budget.  Probably bring in a cosplayer model to practice techniques.

Why is this workshop being considered? Well, Fanime asked, "Are you interested in holding your own panel? Do you have a great idea for a particular workshop?" I said oh absolutely! Here's a Cosplay Photography Lighting panel submission! And got waitlisted...So why not make it into an unofficial workshop?  8)

Panels and Workshops / Re: Older Anime Fan Panel/Older Fan Panel?

Very curious if this was accepted. I'm an older fan myself and this would totally help to not feel quite so alienated among the Fanime crowd.

Do you have a group together? Because, I think my group is looking for some peeps

No group. Just my friend and I. Though my Barret is delayed by finals and graduation. But she's got her Tifa well underway.

Wanted to cosplay Russell from Up, and it seems to go here. But I hope to attend both this and the Disney Prime gathering on the other day.

My friend's got Breath of the Wild Link while I am doing a pirate mashup of Wind Waker Ganon.

I'm trying to convince a friend to join this. At the very least, I intend to show up as Russell from Up.

Progress on Scar delayed by graduation. But in the worst case scenario if I don't have Scar ready, I'll just go with Gluttony or maybe get a wig and go as Sloth. :D

I've started a series of YouTube videos to help both cosplayers and photographers with improving their photo shoots and convention experience. This series is intended to contribute and make our wonderful fandom and cosplayer community a better place. If you have any suggestions for extra topics, please let me know. This thread will be updated as I add new videos.

$20 sounds like a pretty good deal to me...

I agree. ;D It's fulfilling to be able to offer quality shots at an affordable range.

Just wanted to say - good on you!  I think a lot of us have had someone take a ton of pictures of a cosplay, look forward to seeing the pictures of a specific pose or setup, then later only one picture is actually uploaded and it's not the one you were looking forward to.

It's something that I know many photographers would prefer to have control over, especially if it turns out they disagree with edit choices made by someone else. And quite understandable. It's a perspective based on the belief that the photograph is a piece of art created by the photographer, from first exposure through edits to final delivery.

My own perspective is that I do create those pieces of art on the selected favorites by editing them. Then, if there's so many leftover photos, and if giving them over to the subject makes them happy, it doesn't matter to me what edits someone else makes. Also, my news experience means doing everything possible to get a publishable photo right out of camera, and having no problem if a shot is shared without a few extra enhancements from editing.

Yes, the digital negatives are the unedited photo files. I'm fine with cosplayers having the originals and doing their own edits and posting, since they're from their shoot.

Glad to know this one is happening again! My friend is working on Winry and I'm working on Scar.

My friend is working on FF7 Tifa, and I'm working on Barret. It'll be awesome to be there!

I'm excited to attend Fanime, which will be my third year. I’m offering my photography skills to anyone looking for a photographer and taking bookings. My hope is that my decade of fashion, editorial, and advertising experience will be of use to you in photographing your awesome costumes!

EDIT: Just updated the schedule with more shoot spots and changed booking fees to reward earlier bookings.

You can pay cash in person at the time of your shoot.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: First Fanime Hotel Help
« on: November 20, 2017, 01:37:48 PM »
I guess it was bad for me to think 8 months out would be enough time to reserve a room haha.

If you haven't grabbed your Fanime tickets, get them now. The sooner you get your tickets, the higher in priority you are for getting those special Fanime reservations. Also, the rates are special for Fanime, much lower than the typical rates. If you're low in priority, you'll have to get rooms much further away than the higher priority (for example, I waited until December to get my tickets, then had to get a hotel room 3 miles away from the convention).
