Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Age Segragated Dance
« on: June 19, 2017, 09:45:59 AM »
"you have to be pretty naive if you think the majority of people who listen to electronic music and dance all night don't do drugs..."

are you fricken kidding me? that's the same as thinking all asians are bad drivers.

How is it that you equate me saying majority (which is statistically proven at late night Electronic festivals/events/ clubs that majority of people are NOT sober) with ALL (insert racial stereotype)

In philosophy this is called the false equivalency argument which is where you fall into....nice reach tho, and you know Im right  ;)
just curious where you got your statistics from, this seems like not only a case of false equivalency from one poster, but an argument based on a "false fact" by another.  In statistics, this could be a "false casualty" or "proof of a null hypothesis".

"the no glowstick policy ....I dunno for a while now ...i seriously doubt Fanime was concerned with people spilling glow stick chemicals."

....if it wasn't that, why wouldn't they ban led gloves?

I thought they were banned too, well 2016 was my last year so my record for attendance (99'-16'), and I don't recall them at all.  Did they have them this year?  Can you tell me what the whole point of LED gloves...are people tutting again in the dark?

LED gloves have never been banned. laser gloves have.  An explanation of "gloving" can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloving

lol false facts..you kids love to reach for anything ...want to prove this Null...and btw this is proven not a hypothesis  ::)

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Age Restricted Activities
« on: June 16, 2017, 11:37:37 AM »
It bothers me that more age exclusive programming would even be considered...It's supposed to be family friendly, and I hate to burst someone's bubble, but if it's an age restricted event for legal reasons, you need to have your id.

I don't see the reason for an age restricted dance...is it because you want to hook up with people your own age? go to a bar or nightclub....
worried the minors are going to hook up with someone older? i don't see how you could keep the predators out....
I told my friends that run the dance, it's not interesting to me since there's no bar....so i go to a bar instead....fanime is a dry con afterall.

you do realize most of the age restricted events are later in the day --> Evenings,  most families don't do late night or over nighters at cons...

....
Saw the AX with by live streaming this year....Fanime needs to step it up

Lol yeah, it's been years and years of people trying to float some ideas to Fanime.  But, in the end Fanime ends up just being Fanime. I could guess and make countless threads or just revisit the countless posts about this same subject, but eh, too much work.

Then again....... you kind of end up getting what you pay for. Hell, look how much AX badges have gone up. But then look at all the line ups they got going.

Guess what I'm saying that's maybe why Fanime always had its own charm, like maybe next year it would be like (fill in the con name here) but next year it's a notch different.

just going to throw out a comment i made to my roommate,
Fanime is like going to Hawaii...there's always the beach
while AX is like Vegas....even after you get there... everything you want to do costs money....I think I ended up spending over $300 last year on the badge and then tickets to stuff I wanted to see or do...

I see fanime more like Disneyland and AX is like Disney World

my bade was flipepd over half the time...they didnt care lol

AX as in Anime Expo?
Why would anyone want to watch a livestream of a convention? That just sounds so odd to me.
I mean sure Im guessing there are industry panels to tune in to, but Im doubtful any big news wont show up on the net days later, and at least for me being at the event and doing things is the appeal of a convention.
Yes AX is the only Anime Expo I know of in Cali...

Million Dollar questions: why do people livestream on Facebook? or anywhere else for that matter do you find that strange too?

Its probably of panels, guests, and i am hoping the major events (cosplay and AMV), as well as the music event..

I want to see this mainly because I can't make it to AX anymore.

If you want to find someone of age, go to one of the bars in San Jose?? o_O

Or you can got to one of the bars in the adjacent con hotels...there are like 3 i think...

5. Lying bout the history of pass price increases doesn't do any favors for one's credibility, especially when some of us like to keep our old paperwork and can fact-check all of this stuff.

Maybe if I mention how much I loved the rave this year. :)

No such event has ever happened at Fanime...nice reach tho
LOL
Pretty sure they were making a joke about how there seems to be very little in the way of contact with staff on these forums, yet the mods will instantly swoop in and remove the "r-word" from posts.

Unless you are also being sarcastic and I'm falling victim to that "lack of tone over the internet" thing ;]

Also, I saw that post before it was edited. Not sure why I was lumped in when I literally said a few posts above that I disagreed with that point, but clearly OP is just salty for the sake of being salty at this point and not worth my time. :]

Not being sarcastic...but being old and experienced...i can say these events have not happened in the bay area since 2005 ish...and never at fanime

My only assumption as to why the single day badges are so high was because the convention center staff was not verifying badges, ergo using it for the full weekend....mine was flipped over half the time and they still let me in

"« Last Edit: Today at 12:35:55 AM by eww »"

I couldn't really tell what was edited by eww. It looks the same to me. It should be common courtesy to leave a footnote indicating what you've altered.

I mean, how would you like if I snuck into a lengthy post of yours and altered your words around? Again, I can't even tell what you did but it kind of bothers me. What did you change?

The person who edited your post was Ewu, aka, Eric Wu, the head chair of Fanime. Usually he does mention it in his edit, but perhaps he forgot this time. He changed a certain word in your post to "dance," as he and all the other moderators all do whenever that "R" word is mentioned. That word is tied to an image that Fanime doesn't want associated with their late-night dances, so they make a good effort to keep the word from being used in relation to it. Hope that straightens it out.

well it is a dance and nothing close to whatever else people want to call it.  I think Fanime just wants to call a spade a spade...  I even have to correct people at EDM Festivals for mislabeling the event as a R###.

Very Happy with that AMV...love that these are coming out every year

A more visible presence would probably cut down on a lot of these sorts of issues.

I disagree... how do you know a visible police presence will cut down on the issues OP stated?  They weren't visible because there wasnt many in relationship to how many people were at the con, and im sure people weren't really looking for them ...It's also DTSJ...if you want a cleaner environment move the con back the Santa Clara convention center

Yeah I think writing is definitely something I want to cover. Memorization techniques and resources and the like.

Random digression: Interesting that you mentioned writing practice - I think that was probably true back a few years, but the digital age has made handwriting all but obsolete. Some of my native Japanese friends actually have forgotten how to write some of the standard but less common high school characters.

good point...but i found that writing the characters made me a lot better.  how'd the panel go?

Re: increased police presence, I didn't notice that, but I did notice a lot of sirens this year, possibly more than previous years. Was there an increase in medical emergencies or other issues, or was I just taking more notice, I wonder?

Yea I saw them walking around all Friday ...I missed Saturday and most of Sunday and all of monday but they were still out on sunday night

18
I find the full weekend price reasonable, especially if you pre-reg early. It hasn't gone up /that/ much in price for pre-reg in the past several years, even as much as the at-con prices have risen. I think that there should be the ability to transfer or refund a badge, especially since housing is tied to registration so it's a huge gamble for a lot of people, but if you know you're going early, the price is very reasonable.

What I don't find reasonable? One-day badge prices. A friend of mine was only able to go on Monday and paid almost as much as I did for my weekend badge for a half day of con. Monday in particular, when everyone is packing up and there's little in the way on content, shouldn't cost so much.

I enjoy the badged upper area of the concourse. It really helps with traffic flows and saves a lot of time. I say that if you want the con content, you gotta pay the con prices. Be thankful that the badge checkpoint is just to go upstairs (or to the video rooms downstairs) and not to enter the convention center at all if you are ghosting. :P

yea I thought a single day badge was unreasonably priced...I really only wanted to go 2days but the cost difference was small to go for the weekend...and I only ended up fully attending 2days

19
yea they are charging Anime Expo prices
But all events, including MusicFest, are included in that badge price. ;D

yea well AX has a more insane music lineup/event so their pricing for concert tickets is well justified

20
yea they are charging Anime Expo prices ...but either way I paid it.
