I'm sorry I had to cancel Going to Japan for All Budgets. Unfortunately the second half of Friday and all day Saturday I had extreme abdominal pain. I decided to push through it for Cthulhu for President and Bad Hentai, which wasn't the wisest decision.

It was caused by appendicitis and  I underwent surgery early this morning. No chance to make it for this panel, so it was cancelled. Aside from what is expected, I'm doing fine.

Everything being said, please check out my online guide for Tokyo. It doesn't have everything I was going to go over in the panel, but it does have good information:

We're 27 and a half hours from the deadline! Send in your submissions now!

We're much smaller than the main FMV contest, but our victors live on forever in the tale of swords and souls!

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Early check in?
« on: May 10, 2018, 09:59:40 AM »
It depends on the hotel and how their rooms are from the previous night. Like Weiss said, most often you can check in early. The hotels know about the rush of people they're going to get from FanimeCon, so they try to prepare ahead of time.

That being said, you can always call them and ask if you can check in early. If your room isn't available you can usually check your luggage with them until your room is ready.

Live Programming and Events / Re: Art Gallery???
« on: May 09, 2018, 03:12:45 PM »
There hasn't been an art gallery for several years. If there was going to be one, it very likely would have been announced by.

If you really want an Art Gallery, you could always try to join staff and run it, FanimeCon is a fan run con.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Age Restricted Event Punishments (18+)
« on: November 13, 2017, 02:48:42 PM »
Despite multiple warnings, multiple people were caught recording (or attempting to record) video in both the HMV room and the standard Hentai room. A three-strikes policy was in place, and the third strike resulted in the events ending early.

I know recordings are something being discussed, but no good solution has been found.

Speaking un-authoratitively to the suggestions by IceFist66:

1. This isn't feasible for many reasons, including liability, security and management/supervision of the items.

2. That is what we did, and it still happened. Some people don't pay attention, some don't care, and some are just trolls.

3. This is what we tried to do, but at some point we as staff can't spend the entire event trying to manage the crowd. At first we kicked the person out, then we evacuated the rooms and forced everyone to come in, and the third time we shut down all of the Hentai events.

To be clear, there are steps that are taken when someone is discovered recording video, but frankly those don't really impact people who don't pay attention, don't care or are trolls.

Believe me, this is something that has been discussed and is still being discussed. It isn't an easy problem to solve due to the common and miniaturized nature of recording devices in society. I found someone recording during midnight madness, and when confronted they didn't think anything was wrong but they stopped and deleted it from their phone. Unfortunately, society is changing where many (and I mean more than a majority) don't see anything wrong with recording anything they want to any place they consider to be "public" even though FanimeCon isn't strictly speaking public.

Big Event Showcase / Re: Guests I Want For MusicFest 2018!!!!

*clears throat*

.....

THE PILLOWS.

...that's all.

I would love to add my voice to this, but I suspect they'll never come for FanimeCon. The last times they came to the USA were when the US Dollar was between 80-90 yen, and now they probably can't make it fiscally feasible.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Suite or not to Suite? 2018?
« on: May 30, 2017, 06:54:14 PM »
Most hotels I've been to tend to have suites on all the floors, typically at the end, so having a suite is no guarantee of being on a high floor.

As someone who learned Japanese (albeit poorly), maybe giving a basic primer on verb conjugation? I think that would be something very useful to others.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Over night parking?
« on: May 23, 2017, 01:35:46 PM »
Where and what is Vons?

He means Safeway. They are part of the same chain, just different names. I think it's a NorCal/SoCal thing.

There is a Safeway in walking distance from the convention center, between South 2nd and 3rd streets, along E San Fernando.

I assume the parking garage he is referring to is the one also between South 2nd and 3rd streets, along W San Carlos. It sits above the Psycho Donuts and the theater. I used to use this parking garage for the weekend, but be aware that it tends to fill up very quickly on Friday and tends to remain full through the weekend. Don't plan on leaving and returning.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Age Segragated Dance
« on: May 17, 2017, 03:13:57 PM »
The word that must not be used likely has implications for the facility and therefore for FanimeCon, especially in the realm of insurance and liability. It has an extremely negative connotation that would likely impact FanimeCon's ability to host an event with that name, irrespective of if it actually has all the hallmarks of a standard event.

Dance events are still held across the country and have a completely different association with them. Saying you are holding or attending a dance doesn't have nearly as much as a negative connotation.

Hence, the choice of language is a specific and particular one that has importance associated with it. The words we choose are important.

Hotel and Facilities / Re: Parking & Shuttle Questions
« on: May 15, 2017, 09:08:31 PM »
The shuttle is free for all attendees.

If Fanime's Hotel info says the parking is free, then it is most likely free because it is included in the convention rate. That is pretty standard practice.
