Panels and Workshops / Supreme Pro Wrestling
« on: January 09, 2018, 08:14:10 PM »
Hello all! I just came back from Sacanime up in Sacramento and found something oddly interesting that they had available as a panel. Supreme Pro Wrestling. It didn't really have to do with anime, cosplay, or anything, but it was highly enjoyable to watch! I know there's been some type of wrestling at Fanime before, so I'm not sure if this group has attended before, but I think they would be a great performance to have at Fanime. I'll add some links below to their official page and facebook page. If others are interested in seeing this, maybe they could come for a panel in San Jose!

This looks great already! Maybe a section about being wary of scams or something along those lines, what companies to avoid and how to protect yourself and your work? I'd love to attend this panel! Can't wait to see it~

Dealers Room / Re: Fanime 2017 Wishlists!

I'm not sure if they do conventions, but I would love to see Tasty Peach Studios or Sugar Bunny Shop in the dealer's hall! As well as other brands like that selling cute DIFFERENT plush, lanyards, and t-shirts. As much as I love the usual plush, it's nice to see variety in the style and subjects.

Ideas and Suggestions / Re: Food Trucks!

Well, I know there are some cheap options definitely, but there's also a lot of very expensive options downtown. Also the McDonald's is now gone, so one less cheap option unfortunately. And I do know some food trucks can be expensive, but I still think having them as an option might be a good idea! I know the cheap options aren't very far of a walk for most, but as a cosplayer, I would definitely love some more options very close to the convention center. I might just be a little lazy haha

Not sure if this has been brought up before, and thus answered before, but I've been going to a few other cons out of the area and have noticed a prevalence of food trucks available at conventions. I was wondering if this could be something that could be introduced to Fanime? I know there isn't very much space for them to park, but perhaps it could be arranged? I feel like it would offer a lot of options, especially more affordable options, to con goers for food and the food trucks themselves would make a decent profit supposedly. I also understand the issues with lines/dangers due to being in such a downtown area, but I feel like it is something that can be accomplished? I think it would be a good improvement for future years of fanime if possible. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this as well, either for or against it. Maybe now with Adobe partnering with Fanime, it could be done!

Hi there!! Very late question but what if we have a dress that is higher than the knee but we wear long pants underneath or opaque leggings? Is this alright or no? Please let me know! Thank you!

Might as well post my cosplay progress list too!

Mercy - Overwatch: Everything came in time! Just need a battery for my staff, needs a tiny little bugger. And gotta figure out how to make the pony tail a bit bigger on my wig.
Lusamine - Pokemon: All pieces acquired~ (would love to have a beast ball for her though but hurg didn't make one in time)
Zelda - Breath of the Wild: Good to go!
Tohru - Kobayashi-san no Maid Dragon: Wig and gloves are here, dress, headband and tights still on the way. Tail won't make it in time though TwT
Sith Lord - Star Wars: Should be good now! Though I might not wear if it's too hot bluh

Now the big question is am I going to have to tie down something on the roof of my car cause...Mercy is in so many pieces...the wings and armor are huge....screams.

Hello! If everything comes in time, I might be able to make it as Tohru! Hope to see you all there!

If your cosplay isn't ready clap your hands! CLAP CLAP
If you're freaking out for con, clap your hands! CLAP CLAP
If you're hyped up for the show and want everyone to know,
If you're not ready but hyped then clap your hands! CLAP CLAP

Oh great! Thanks for that info, I haven't even thought to check the facebook pages recently. Imperial must have their hands full, no doubt, but I'm glad it's posted there! Thanks again~

Wonderful! Glad to hear it~ Hope they'll update the gatherings list soon. Thanks for giving us all the updates!

Wonderful! Thank you so much for stepping up to organize. I'm super happy there's an official gathering now, and that day and time sounds great. It won't even be very dark then knowing Cali, so that's perfect. My friend and I will attend as Yami Yugi and Yami Bakura! Can't wait to see everyone there!

Awesome, thanks!

General Convention Discussion / 2016 Attendance Numbers
« on: April 09, 2017, 12:10:47 PM »
Hello all! I understand FanimeCon is not counted in the lists of largest anime conventions in North America due to attendance being shared with Clockwork Alchemy. However I'm ever curious where we stand among other cons. I've seen an attendance number in 2014 of around 27,000 and with 2015 being even higher, though I'm curious if 2016 broke the 30,000 mark. (I may or may not be competing with my friend who goes to A-kon for who has the larger home con). If anyone has the numbers and is willing to share them, please do! Thank you so much~

(The wiki page for Fanime stopped updating attendance count in 2014 due to the Clockwork Alchemy problem)

General Convention Discussion / Re: Lockers At Fanime
« on: April 06, 2017, 09:08:43 PM »
I believe, I may be wrong, the Marriott and possibly Hilton are offering entire con luggage/item/coat check for a small fee per item. There are no lockers in the vicinity unfortunately, though there are bathrooms on the main concourse for changing purposes. Lockers might be a good investment for the convention center though I would think might get filled up very quickly.

Here is a link to the policy provided on the fanime website. I'm not sure if this is the updated version for this year or not, but hopefully it helps!

I'm not a rover or any kind of staff, but from my experience at Fanime the past 7 years, they mostly seem concerned with props that have sharp edges or can fire projectiles. AKA weapons that are designed to hurt people. As far as a frying pan goes, I want to say you'll be fine as long as it's peace bonded. Honestly even a foam sword can hurt someone if you hit them hard enough with it, so as long as you don't go around whacking people you should be good~ But definitely as the above reply said, email the rovers just in case. I am concerned about the lack of a props and weapons rules thread being posted so far this year as there are always newcomers who need to know what Fanime's policy's are. If they post one however, check that out too as it will be the guideline the peacebonder's use before peacebonding your weapon. I am also excited to see your cosplay! Hope everything works out~

Later on Friday might work better for me personally than Monday, though I don't currently see any slots taken for Monday? Whichever it ends up being, I'm sure I can squeeze it in~

Thank you for organizing the gathering last year! Yeah I would definitely like to see a gathering, though perhaps if no one heads this, the original DM characters could go to the old school gathering? I know there are a few 5ds, zexal and arc-v cosplayers but if no official yugioh gathering gets scheduled, my friend and I might show up to the old school gathering in our cosplays~ we'd love to see you either way!

Hi all! Last year I took a gander around the fanime convention area to see what construction and such might inhibit usual activities. Luckily, much construction in that area has been completed or hasn't started yet. However again the grassy areas in the park are currently fenced off to be reseeded from the Super Bowl event. Last year the fences were removed in time for fanime, and hopefully should also be removed in time this year. Though I thought I would let people know just in case!

As far as construction, the building next to the fairmont is now finished. The closest construction project is only currently a proposal for new apartments to be built where Park Hall is currently. Thus because of this, possibly, the Black and White Ball has been moved to the Marriott Ballroom. I know this has been mentioned on other threads, but I thought I would post here as well just to be sure everyone knows! I'm not sure if the construction is the reason for this change if it hasn't started yet, but it seems likely. I'll keep checking the area for construction updates though it seems all proposals and current projects are out of the way of cosplay gathering areas and routes to the convention center from hotels.

If you're curious about current construction projects in the area, here's a handy map provided by the city that is current as of one week of me posting this:

There is currently some construction on apartment buildings next to South Hall, though this shouldn't pose much of an issue. If anything else comes up that might pose an issue, I'll update this thread! Hope this offers some useful information for some non-locals~
