(lol and if I was not so busy doing Bleach and prepping for being in a skit for Masq I'd totally volunteer for the Gatherings department XD).

I don't have a Twitter but I think the idea about Tweeting the gathering would be worth trying.

I usually keep all the gatherings on my phone calender and have it remind me.
